They tape the show in the afternoon and broadcast it at 11:30 PM local. I’m looking forward to it. Have fun. 😀
Learn something new everyday! I might have to fly out the day before then which will mena missing the U2 gig in Cardiff that I’ve had a ticket for for the last four months….damn!! 🙂
Excellent stuff mate, all the best in the US and in Denmark.
Are you getting one of the former Sun-Air’s JS32, or you don’t want to disclose that sort of info atm?
Well, they’re one of the many J32s we’re looking at, but at the moment it seems the most likely. They are in a very good condition and have been very well looked after.
I wish I would be in the UK at some point this summer as I would like to check out the operation.
When will you be taping your David Letterman show? I’ll have to make sure to set up the DVR to record that.
I think the show is actually going out live. I’m on the 30th of June, same day that I fly out there, some how I think I’m gonig to be knackered! Haven’t even got round to booking the flights yet, they;ve told me to book them myself and then they’ll give me that cash back. Was thinking of trying Continental funnily enough!
You serious Martin?!?!
Woudnt mind coming down to see the set up actually! :p
Yeah course I am. I’d be happy to set something up. It would need to be at sometime after mid July, I’m not really in the office for the next few weeks. I’m in New York for David Letterman’s show next week, then in Denmark to finish the purchase of our aircraft, then back in the States to finish the investment stuff off and then in Germany to pick up my new car! But after all that I’ll be around the whole time.
Name a date and we’ll see what we can set up. In fact if other people in the forum were interested I’ll set up some kind of Open Day.
LBARules, like you I’d be one of the first to think of a Flywho type scenario! The thing is, we have everything in place, it’s literally just a case of getting all this red tape with the investment sorted out…and trust me, that really won’t be long now. I’m not going to give dates just yet as it would be unwise, but it will be very soon.
Hey, if anyone wants to come down to the offices, you’re all very welcome, I’d be delighted to show you guys around…maybe even a forum meet 😀
DME, thanks for your post mate. 180 hours comes out at working on the fleet once every two weeks so it’s not too bad. It will probably be a 7 hour day. Hopefully as time goes on there will be more of an opportunity to fly. At the end of the day though, this is why it was all started, to get a flying job!
Damien, I respect your views and I’m not going to argue any further. You don’t know me or my staff and we don’t know you so I don’t think there is much point in continuing an arguement that is going to go round and round in circles.
The bookings were taken through the 08700 number, the web site does not cost £13.99 per year and as for this all just being a publicity stunt….well, I’ll let you believe that if you want. As I’ve said numerous times come and speak to me in person, I’ll introduce you to our team, show you the office, the paper work and the countless number of people who work at alphaOne that you are calling liars.
Damien, no deadline has passed at all. We’re not in this industry to keep airline rumour forums happy, we will only release news when we see fit. I could spout off press release after press release everyday about how we’ve got a new Chief Financial Officer, how our pilots have started their type rating course and CRM courses or how much we’ve agreed to pay a respective airports in terms of landings or what handling agents we’ve picked. But I’m not going to. Our previously booked passengers are being kept up to date. I don’t really understand your apparent vendetta against the airline or myself, but as I have previously said, why don’t you come down to our offices and meet me? I’d only be too happy to discuss the intricacies of running an airline with you over a cup of coffee and some biscuits!
DarrenBe, sadly my flying will be somewhat limited, at least for the first year, but we’re hoping I should be able to fly roughly 180 hours within the first 12 months.
We are not the airline looking for investment through the Nutricius Group web site, that is their own project Britain Airways. We are however working quite closely with Nick Rowley and his team on distribution channels for our ticketing.
I should be able to deadhead on a nice little airline I know!!! Just as long I can keep the 10th free I’ll be there!
Excellent site mate, well done!
Happy Birthday mate, hope it’s a good one!
No problem, sorry 😉
Damien, the airline was set up so that I would ensure I had a flying job at the end of my training. There are several other airline CEO’s around the world who fly for their own airlines including Niels Sundberg, the CEO of Sun-Air in Denmark.
With regards to the web site, when we had to update the site to say we were delaying our launch because of problems with the booking engine our host let us down and we were unable the connect using the FTP. The hosting company took a few days to sort this out and in the mean time we had to come up with a very quick solution which is where Geocities come into the equation. The problem has now been solved.
With regards to the actual hosting cost, when you are getting over 15,000 hits a day a cheap home based hosting package like geocities won’t do. We rent our own servers as is required for the booking engine software etc. Of which by the way, there are no ‘off the shelf’ packages, they all need to be customised at great expense, usually at least $25,000 plus about $5,000 per month there after.
I’d be only too happy to invite you up to our new offices and talk further if you wish once everything has been sorted out with the trans-atlantic investment.
One final point, I’ve posted pictures of me at OAT, including me in my uniform and me flying, those can’t be faked buddy.
