Well guys, sounds great, Mark and I could fly up and then Sandy, Ren could drive down. Andrew, I just checked easyJet flights from Aldergrove to Newcastle, it’s about £25!
Completely agree with you mate, it is sickening, people who have worked so hard to get to where they are shouldn’t have to work themselves into the ground. If the constant rumours that are flying around at OAT are true most of the airlines will be recruiting by the time I qualify in March ’05. I live in hope 🙂
I agree with you Matt, although I don’t want to sound arrogant, after all the work I’ve put in to get to where I am, I don’t want to work myself into the ground, and I would dearly love to go to a better airline. easyJet would be great, BA Citiexpress spectacular, but for someone like myself who isn’t going to get the most amazing ground school marks I doubt that will happen without knowing someone who could swing me a job. I suppose we’ll have to see where I am in 12 months time, any airline is good for me really!
I think you’ve summed it up perfectly Lee. I’d go to Ryanair first and foremost because I love aviation and I want to live my life long dream, and trust me that’s something you need to concentrate on while your at flight school sitting in a classroom!!! 🙂
While I think you make an extremely valid point and I agree with you on the whole, sadly the choice for pilots like myself is Ryanair or nothing. I’d much rather pay to apply, get paid very little and be forced to work damn hard in order to pay my bills and build my hours than let the £70,000 I’ve paid for my ATPL training go to waste as I spend years looking for a job.
Sadly for younger guys like myself who are training for our ATPLs Ryanair looks like the only viable option for a job. It seems to be the only quick step from flight school to a decent jet.
Moondance, whilst I defend the airport at Blackpool, I’m afraid I have to agree with you, love the airport, but I’m not a fan of the town….a bit to much ‘kiss me quick’ for my liking!!
As EGNM says passenger traffic is up 400% over the last nine months alone. I’ve flown both STN-BLK and DUB-BLK several times over the last few months and the flights have always been packed. On top of that there are Keenair/Flykeen services to IOM and BHD as previously stated. The daily flybe BHD service is expected to return in the summer as it has over the last few years. There is also regular holiday traffic from the likes of Thompson (Britannia), First Choice (Air 2000) and Iberworld, so generally things are looking rosy!
I know several people who work at BLK all of which are very enthusiastic about the airports future.
Jeanske_SN, Blackpool may not seem like an important city to someone outside the UK, but it is the UK’s most popular holiday resort and also provides access to the Lakedistrict national park and offers a good alternative to Liverpool and Manchester Airports.
Happy birthday mate, I hope you have a good one!
I’ll definatley be there if I can get the time off at OAT! Might even come up in one of the training schools planes!!
I think one of the major oil companies is based in Groningen and the oil industry makes up a huge section of Eastern’s business, in addition to this both Norwich and Aberdeen have major links to the oil industry.
Good news indeed, this should leave some space at the locos and regionals as people like wys move into long haul! Maybe, just maybe I’ll find a job!!!
My flight was at 14.25 but delayed until about 1500. I was at the airport from about 11 though.
EAL_KING, I was flying back to London with bmi from Manchester on Sunday (15th), we must have passed each other without knowing it! I was on G-MIDL, a A321, was supposed to be a Fokker 100but the aircraft went tech the day before.
It’s nice to see Niederrhein a bit busy in your pictures than it was when I visited with Ryanair last year. However, VBird hadn’t started flying then. Sorry to hear your day didn’t turn out too well.
With regards to VBird’s staff from what I hear all the cabin crew are very young, however I was looking at going to them for a job on the flight deck when I’ve finished my training but they want a first officer to have at least 3,000 hours and to be type rated on the A320, a tall order for an airline to require even in the current recruitment climate. Even easyJet have had to reduce their requirements from 1,500 hours with 500 hours jet experience to just 500 hours piston experience!
