I just though I’d add something, 60 knots is double the legal taxi limit in the UK, I’m not 100% sure if the applies accross runways or on taxiways, but I think so.

Whiskey Delta, like I said, I spoke to these pilots after the flight and they were admitting to these speeds!!! This was on an ATP.

I have flown with 19 different female pilots, including both my sister and my mother, all I’m saying is that these two commercial experiences were the only two I’ve had with female flight crew.

These ‘preconceptions’ you claim I have are just not true, I am going on the facts that have been put in front of me by people who have helped me when I’m training for my PPL. Now as I’m sure you know most people trust their teachers, after all trust is a major part of flying, it was one of the first things I was taught when I first flew a plane.

    Hey Kevin,

my comments were meant to be taken in a light hearted manner. I’ve grown up in an all female environment at home and many of my friends and peers are female, we have friendly, male vs female banter the whole time. Likewise I have flown alongside several female pilots in light aircraft who were admittedly much better than me, their ability to multi-task very effectively is a prime example. Now like I said in my second post, I know many very good female pilots, many of whom are much better than some of the male pilots I know.

I don’t have a web site to back the facts about males being better pilots, however my sources, I consider to be very reliable from several recruiting officers in the RAF and a training captain in the US who works at Delta.

I did also go on to say that there are many aspects of flying which can be considered to be more important than just the pure physical characteristics which women are much better at.

All I’m saying is that I had two very interesting flights commercially with women, this is not a generalization saying that women make bad pilots. I was lucky enough to speak to the BA crew after the flight, they were laughing about the fact that they had turned off the runway at 70 knots (not unusual at all) but then that they had carried on to the apron at 60. Both were blaming the other for the speed, but it was all in a light hearted manner. Now admittedly the weather had something to do with the poor landing on that occasion, but on the Buzz flight the weather was clear, a very light north-westerly breeze (I record such things in my passenger log book), the landing itself was not bad other than the fact that we slightly overshot the touchdown markers and she slammed the nose wheel down. It was not so much the landing but more the reaction of those next to me that made it such a bad flight.

Now there’s nothing I hate more than sexism, but the post was made in a light hearted manner just like the banter I mentioned above. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, I really mean that and like I said I don’t care who sits in the left or right hand seat, just as long as they are up to the job.

My first flight was when I was six in 1992 with BA to Prague from Heathrow. Looking back I think it was on a 757.

Hey hey :), now I’m not saying women can’t be pilots, I have nothing against it and I know many very good pilots who are in fact women. All I’m saying is that my experiences havent been great with women fly the aircraft…I’ve probably just been unlucky.

It has been proven though that men are generally better in the most important PHYSICAL fields needed to be a pilot. I dare say women are much better at the much more important aspects such as team work and concentration.

To be honest when I do get in that right hand seat I won’t care who is sitting next to me, just as long as they are up to the job 🙂

Heathrow – Philadelphia with BA on a 744 in December last year. My mates dad is a senior captain on the triple seven with them and came with us to the airport. We got our flights dirt cheap in economy.

When we got to the airport Steve (My mates dad) would just go up to people offer his hand to shake, flash his staff card and say ‘hi…Steve’ and they would fall at his feet and give him anything!

We got upgraded, lounge access, fast track check in and security control and tonnes of free BA merchandise plus free hotels and meals when we got to Philly.

The flight itself was amazing, we were personally invited to the flight deck by the Captain when we landed over the tanoy and we were waited on hand and foot.

I’ve flown on two sepeate flights with female flight crew, one with Buzz and one with BA. Now I have nothing against women being pilots, I know a few myself and they are pretty good, however both my experiences have been dismal. On the Buzz flight the female first officer, who later admitted to the land slammed the nose wheel of our 146 down so hard that the oxygen masks came down and the nervous flyer next to me started screaming.

On the BA flight both were females, we taxied at about 60 or 70 knots…no exageration there, and the landing was once again awful.

Women can make very good pilots, however it has actually been proven that on average they aren’t quite as good at the main factors involved in flying as men, these factors are things such as spacial awareness and high pressure situations….sorry girls.

Exeter is a great candidate for expansion in my eyes. How many Toronto flights do you have a month?

How many check in desks do you have down at Exeter. Blackpool only has four and copes amazingly well considering they sometimes have three or four flights checking in at the same time. Last time I was there they were checking in a holiday charter, a flight to Dublin, Keenair to Isle of Man and a Flybe to Belfast.

Right my summer looks something likes this:

June 24th: Stansted – Blackpool (Buzz BAe 146)
    June 24th: Blackpool – Dublin (Ryanair 737-200)
    June 24th: Dublin – Stansted (Ryanair 737-200)

July 29th: Gatwick – Belfast City (FlyBe BAe 146)
July 29th: Belfast City – Gatwick (FlyBe BAe 146)

Then I’m off to Dresden either with Lufthansa from LHR via FRA or DUS or with Germanwings from STN via Cologne or with BA to Berlin or via Cologne…still haven’t booked yet :p

The really big event of the summer is the start of my ATPL in August with my three day selection process for OAT :S but fingers crossed I should be ok.

Cheers Preston. Gary’s work is excellent and we pretty mcuh decided that going head to head with his newest stuff wasn’t really a good option. He has a very loyal fan base, of which I am a member 😉

Quite possibly. Put it down in the suggestions forum and we’ll see what we can do. 🙂

Indeed we will, I know Gary quite well. His Blackpool won’t be out until mid 2004 and so we won’t have any competition for a while 🙂
