I fly on VATSIM, run a VA (Elation Airways) and own a professional scenery design company :-). Our first product will be out in June, priced only £4.99 (Blackpool Airport)!!!! 😀
I live in the UK. To achieve my ATPL I’ll need 1,500 hours, when I actually qualify I’ll have a CPL, but this is referred to as a ‘Frozen’ ATPL. It is unfrozen when you reach 1,500.
In many respects I’m coming into the UK industry at the right time. However much they are detested Ryanair and to some extent EasyJet are both hiring very young pilots straight out of flight school. I’m most probably going to either Oxford Air Training (one of Europe’s best!!! :)) or Cabair, both have connections with the locos, although of course this doesn’t guarentee a job. Whatever I end up flying whether it be a 747-400 or a Jetstream 41 I’ll be happy!
The reason that Loco’s over here are taking on such young pilots (I’ll only be 19 and 8 months when I qualify) is that they are very felxible to the airlines needs. As I will have very few commitments I’ll be able to move around a lot and be relocated without too many problems.
However much people don’t like them, airlines like Ryanair are an excellent opportunity for young pilots like myself, with them I have the chance of being in the Left Hand seat by the age of 24! To me I see this as a stepping stone on to better things, and that will probably mean moving back into the right hand seat, but it seems worth it.
The pay’s not bad either 😀
In contrast Ryanair recently doubled their daily flights to Newquay from Stansted and they are looking at expanding the South-West operation to Dublin as well. BA have lost a lot of passengers to this service, even if it doesn’t offer the connections.
As was mentioned above, why pay £300 for a 45 minute flight, Ryanair cost about £20 Rtn at the moment. It’s a sad decline, however I would imagine that Flybe will see it as a good opportunity to start a new Exeter-Gatwick service.
I think Saab is right, the best option would be to close Exeter and Plymouth and open a new regional hub in the South-West. I’m suprised that no loco’s have utalised Exeter other than Flybe. I would imagine a new central airport with a decent sized runway and terminal would really kick of the South-West’s aviation industry. Lets just hope that someone comes in to take over the routes.
I’m starting my ATPL training in August this year. Most likely end up with one of the loco’s.
Version 5 is fantastic and well worth a look, it had some early bugs but these are being sorted out now. The newest version is very indepth and is very realistic.
The go around procedures at Heathrow do not direct aircraft into the path of a departure runway, this I felt was not necessary and will further heighten the publics already hyperbolic fear of flying.
What did you guys think of the program? I’m not sure myself, it does however bring forward some very important points that need to be addressed.
Everytime I seem to fly out of T4 at LHR a plane seems to be crossing. Everyone else is always grumbling, but I always sit happily watching them cross the road at their plodding pace! 🙂
I flew up to Blackpool on a Buzz 146 last monday and I’d highly recommend it. It was six abreat seating but it wasn’t too uncomfortable. It was the first time I’d ever flown on a 146, but just like you it’s my favourite aircraft and monday has only increased by love of it 🙂
Martin
The landing gear on the 717 is nearer the front of the aircraft. Generally 717s look like shrunk down versions of the MD series…at that’s because they are! 🙂
I’ve been meaning to fly with Eastern for sometime, are they any good?
The flightplans and aircraft are uploaded at http://www.projectai.com and are now available for download!
I would love to see airlines like Ryanair really utalising airports such as Blackpool and Exeter to their full potential. I’m really looking forward to taking a lot round Blackpool and I’m now off to the flybe web site to find a connection to Exeter 🙂
Thanks for the info and the pics. I know Exeter is quite a big grave yard for BAe 146s. I’ve been trying to work out a way to get there from Oxford by air without having to fly myself. It seems to be a very complex operation of getting a flight from Gatwick to Guernsey and flying on to Exeter or going from Heathrow or Birmingham via Dublin. At least Bournemouth is a bit more reasonable 🙂
Nice picture, thanks for that. I always regretted never making it down to EGHH to see the EAL BAC 111s. I only found out that they were giving pleasure lfights on them the day after they finished, had I have known beforehand I would have booked myself in. Ah well 🙂
I’ll probably be down at Hurn a lot during my flight training, OAT (Oxford Air Training) send a lot of their pilots down there in the early stages of training for VFR practise. So hopefully I’ll be down there in the next year or so.
Was the BAe 146 down at Exeter for maintenance or had it been retired by BA?
