Sunset for that date is around 20.02 (varies depending where in UK you are, but it’s near enough), so just over an hour after leaving.
My sister in law’s flight to Valencia left Bristol with just half an hour delay – 8am this morning. They escaped just before the problems really started to bite and are probably just tucking in to paella without a clue on what’s happened since they left!
Latest is Manchester Airport Terminal 2 check in area is full – expect to wait outside.
As hand luggage is now banned will hold luggage weight limits now be relaxed? Low cost airlines positively encourage larger hand luggage as it speeds up turn rounds – Jet 2 and Ryanair to name two. If you turn up this morning with a 15kg check in bag and 10kg of hand luggage (the max permitted) I hope excess baggage charges won’t be levied.
You have to admire the speed of Russian air accident investigators though. Less than 24 hours after the accident they categorically state the aircraft suffered brake failure. Why don’t we have their investigators over here? We would only need a few if they can diagnose faults that quickly. Good to see the Russians spin doctors are as alive and well as our own.
So that’s what it was! Thought the FR 732s were back. Only been on a VC10 at Duxford – what did impress me was the amount of room in the passenger cabin, especially the headroom.
This last weekend rwy 14 was in use for most of Friday and Saturday and the increase in flights was very noticeable, as was the Jet2 757 which decided to cut the corner somewhat following departure to save a few minutes and a splash of fuel! From my back door I can usually see the side of the aircraft, this 757 passed directly overhead!
Thanks for the site Yippkaya – very useful. Bad weather now confirmed as a colleague flew a light aircraft to Calais last week – should have stayed one night but ended up staying three due to bad weather over the Channel! His wife still hasn’t forgiven him – lots of making up to do! Even worse you can’t get much cheap wine in a Cessna!
Jet2 operated a F100 last year – my parents flew to Palma on it. They are also introducing a 146 for the MAN – LGW route!
Peel Holdings who own DSA also own Sheffield Airport. Over the next few months the runway length will be reduced and the airport will be operated purely for light a/c,, private jet and helicopter (including emergency services) operations, the rest of the site will be redeveloped as a business park.
We used DSA last October for a trip to Valencia – if you thought LBA was quiet you aint seen nothing yet! Don’t arrive too early as there is nothing to do at DSA – only one shop and one bar when we were there (although more were being developed – due for completion in Summer 05,we went in October!). Parking is very handy though as it’s right in front of the terminal.
In the same story Sheffiled also failed! Considering it’s used for a few helicopters and the odd Cessna how does that work?? Oh hang on the M1 and Sheffield Parkway are just over the fence – lots of traffic jams every day. I agree with the guy from BHX – These findings are a load of tosh!
Saw the one last night about the DHL Airbus which was hit by a SAM in Iraq. Apart from the actual footage from the Iraqi terrorists and the Apache helicopters the production was fairly low rank.
Programme mentioned it was the first time a plane had lost all three hydraulic systems apart from the JAL aircraft, then 10 minutes later mentioned Sioux City (which was also a loss of all three systems!), then changed the story to say it was the first time an aircraft had landed safely with no loss of life after losing all three systems.
And why do they insist on showing the resume of the programme (including the successful landing) twice in the first 5 minutes!
Having watched the Concorde in flight DVD they had a TCAS warning on an aircraft which was at 1100 ft above and 8 miles away. This crossed Concorde’s intended path, but it was never a problem. There may have been a TCAS warning with these two a/c, but once noted that it was not a dangerous situation it would have been noted and monitored, but not acted upon.
Could easily have been filmed at LBA! Gusts to 50mph last night!!!
Ads I have seen indicate a cost of £499. You need a PC, an external aerial will provide better results (£50-100). Internet connection may be required to update databases, but it’s not needed to operate the system, set up looks easy – attach box to PC via USB, attach aerial, install software off you go! I’m keen on this, but it seems expensive to me at the moment.
And yes you can do what you say as the system is portable – at least that’s what the ad shows.
Another route available for Jet2 then!
3-3-3 seating and 28 inch pitch last time I was on one of them (4 years ago) – truly awful.
