100 Years Belgian Military Aviation
Operational demonstration at Beauvechain Air Base
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Belgian military aviation, the Air Component would like to invite you to an event which is taking place as from 1300 hours on Friday 6 September 2013.
On this occasion, the Air Component will demonstrate its present-day operational capabilities to an audience of invited guests and (inter)national press. F16’s, C-130’s and A-109’s assisted by national and international support aircraft such as tankers and attack helicopters will demonstrate how air assets are employed today in an operational context. The Special Forces Group and other land units will execute airborne assault landings to display inter-operability between different Defence branches.
On 16 April 1913, King Albert I signed a Royal Decree which created military aviation in Belgium. It consisted of a ‘Compagnie d’Aviateurs’ and a Flying School. One century later, the Air Component comprises a multitude of units with specific missions. Several of these have proven their value during recent deployments around the globe
