FIJI (semi-) AIR FORCE

well, it seems the Fiji Air Force is no more so ‘military’ as before (see post # 114)

According to Wikipedia, it’s so ;

The Fiji Air Wing

The Air Wing of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces was founded in 1987, had a base at the airport in Nausori, but was abolished in 1997. Yehonatan Shimสปon Frenแธณel writes that ‘..the ..Air Wing was formed after the 1987 coup, when the French provided two helicopters as part of its military aid package.'[3] Frenkel goes on to say that the air wing was disbanded after both helicopters crashed and after subsequent revelations of huge debts incurred as a result of the aircraft.

The two helicopters were:
1 transport helicopter Eurocopter AS 365N2 Dauphin 2 – matriculation marker DQ-FGD – in service from 1989 to 1994.
1 transport helicopter Aerospatiale AS 355F-2 Twin Squirrel – matriculation marker DQ-FGH – in service from 1991 to the 1997th

Helicopter AS-365 N2 Dauphin crashed off the coast of the main island in July 1994, a smaller helicopter AS-355F-2 continued in service until mid-1997 and in 1999 was sold to France.

A Harbin Y-11 transport aircraft has now been reported in service by Combataircraft.com
****

For the Dauphin, I found nothing !
And for the DQ-FGH, look to ; http://hawkseye.bravepages.com/fiji/nan/dq-fgh.htm
On the tail, you can just imagine ‘military stripes’…

For the Harbin Y-11, let’s believe Mr Johngray :o;
http://www.johngray-seacanoe.com/picview-page46-category88.php
Admire the local ‘holidays colors’ camouflage !!
But on the fuselage, one can just read the title ‘Air Fiji’ ;
to see it better, on the other side; see airliners.net ID # 0645851

So, let’s suppose thus a “semi – Air Force” is looking so ๐Ÿ™‚

Etienne

Not really a publicity for General Dynamics / Lockheed Martin ๐Ÿ™

SUDAN’s PEOPLE AIR FORCE

many thanks, Greg, for the pic of that Mi-17 !

Indeed, the national flag is well visible on the tail, even -on the enlarged view- with the (white) star in the blue corner ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe later it will be a ‘real’ roundel, as so ;

SOUTH SUDAN

It’s more than one year ago, that South Sudan became independent !

and, already in Jan’ 2011, gkozak wrote (in thread # 14 p 3 post # 78) :

” I’m anxious to see some combat aircraft sporting their new roundel. “

this view is well known by everyone :

But, till now I’ve never seen THE official roundel of their Air force !!

Can you tell me ?

SWISS HUNTERS

klick to enlarge this splendid view of the former “Patrouille Suisse”

The Hunter was one of the most esthetic-shaped aircraft, don’t you find ?
and for me particularly the two-seater version…
Here is a video of such one, ‘swinging’ over the Alps, splendid in ‘full screen’..

Just imagine you are the passenger !

the song also is fine, but in what language ?

have a fine week-end,

Regional Security System (= RSS)

from airliners.net (see also their other RSS pics) :

here the registration is well visible..

the explanations given yesterday by Greg are fully correct.

In fact it’s an ‘Air Wing’ of only two aircraft !

for all details, see also ;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_Security_System

and their website; http://www.rss.org.bb/Airwing.htm

BHUTAN ; the last comment ?

this is mainly for Greg & RR… (and other pro’s & contra’s ?)

It’s a fact that -according to many sources (probably all ones referring to ‘a’ first uncorrect one… (see FOTW > Bhutan) ) some military
Mi-8’s helico’s are -or were- in Bhutan’ service !!

Nearly 3 years ago, I sent a mail to their ‘Ministry of information & communications’ .. but never got any reply ๐Ÿ™

Their gov-website is now ; http://www.bhutan.gov.bt , (see ‘who is who’)
with many ministers, secretaries, etc… but -seemingly- nobody concerned for ‘military affairs’ :confused:

N705PA (cn 17686/124) Shot of the impounded 707. Check out titles of Royal Fiji Military…. Still searching for the side shot. ( !! )

BUT…. WAS IT REALLY A MILITARY ONE ? ………. I’m not convinced !

Can you read the word after Royal Fifi…. ?
I’d like to see the full title !
Can you help ? :confused:

I’m looking also for pics of their nowadays Harbin Y-11

This is just to complete -& try to end ๐Ÿ˜Ž – my collection of world’s (171) Air Forces.
