I agree the SH is great overall performer – but if you were at Farnborough/RIAT this year surely you noticed the Eurofighter had a steeper climb profıle.
But that’s where your wrong!
This year at Farnborough the F-18 seemed louder and it took off much steeper than the typhoon! Which I found weird.
I’m not sure what you’re actually asking? It’s a multi-role fighter if you wondering what its mission set consists of. Interception, combat air patrol, precision-strike, close air support, reconaissance, SEAD, etc.
Most people on these forums don’t like the Hornet series, but I’ll discuss it with you as I happen to actually like the airplane.
I’m hoping the usual suspects don’t come by to ruin your thread. Perhaps they will be respectful to you.
Anyways, if you have any more specific questions ask them, and I’ll see if I can’t get you an answer.
Thanks, I just wanted to know where does it operate, because you hear of the F-16, F-15’s etc, but never the F-18, Does it go on an aircraft carrier ??
The Royal Navy have just gone one back up and running!
Was at RNAS Yeovilton Airshow this year!
Clearly you haven’t.
There’s nothing wrong with youthful exuberance and enthusiasm. Try tempering that enthusiasm with a little common sense.

Oh God. I’ve seen it all now. XH668 handing out advice!
Just one question Matt Soden. Why would it be relevant to post a thread about the Royal international Air Tattoo (which mainly features military aircraft) in a forum devoted to general, ie, light aviation?

I’m new, I’ve only just got the hang of things!
Leave me alone!
Your like the 400th person now!
The black Typhoon DA2 is now in the RAF Museum at Hendon.

The guy in South Africa, Mike Beachy Head, has four flying Lightnings
http://www.thundercity.com/news.htm
There is one currently undergoing preparation to return it to flight status in the U.S.

Thankyou for that useful information !
Four Lightnings!
Must be rich!
i think a few lightnings are in operation in south africa, google ‘thunder city’ and start saving like mad! buccanears and hunters amongst others
Sounds great, I heard there’s a rich guy out there, who has a buccaneer, Lightning, Tornado, Harrier, you name is, all British 🙂
Yeah well it was from the A380 – the “Hercules” how did the thread change anyway ?
quite possible, maybe restructuring? i never know what is based where anymore, they love moving stuff around. Sorry if my original response sounded like i was shooting u down, wasn’t meant like that! i love the tornado, so the thought of replacing it so soon….. hopefully i’m right on this one, but will be happy to stand corrected
i cannot beleive the jaguar was withdrawn with its replacement no where near fully capable air to ground wise, personally i have always thought a TVC typhoon navilised, with more capabilities would be a much better investment than the JSF, seeing as the money has already be spent on the typhoon, maybe then we will get something near the original 232 in service
No worries, You didn’t shoot me down!
I was quite upset when the Jaguar went out of service, I mean look at the Tornado F3’s they are on their way out, but the GR4’s will be replaced by Typhoons in 10 years or so.
I am only 17 and I didn’t get chance to see the Lightning Fly.
Aparently some guy in South Africa has one.

Totally agree with you Marktheevildude, hope that tranche 3 does happen and doesn’t get cut down. Current Typhoons in service are tranche 1 block 5, and that’s the best level the tranche 1 will reach. The air-to-ground capabilities the typhoons currently have are beyond tranche 1 and have eventuated out of need for deployment to Afganistan and the need to show the UK gov that Eurofighter is worth every penny.
Tranch 2 is currently in production and Tranche 3 hasn’t been signed for yet, but fingers crossed!! The Typhoon with CFT, TVC, the EJ230 with higher power rating would be so cool!! Not to mention new missiles on the horizon too…Meteor.:D
Sounds good!!
What was that first Typhoon called we had?
it was a black one, I don’t see that about anymore?
Vulcan XH558
I saw it fly at Farnborough this year and what an amazing take off she did!
I think she’s had a new paint, but she’s so beautiful, I knew they’d get it up and running again!
Did it fly at RAF Waddington this year?
my father rang me earlier in the day to tell me that 558 had just overflown his house (recognising the howl of 4 olyumpus engines) and said she did 4-5 circuits and apparently seems to be staying the night.
was anyone there to get pics? and better yet, why is she there and will she be doing any more flying?
cheers
Ben
I heard from someone it had landing gear failure or problems.
Just two of the many highlights of this years ‘Wings and Wheels’ show, more to follow over the next day or so.
Septic.
Stunning pictures – this forum seems to be more professional than I thought !
A few from me from what seemed a rather lacklustre display.
I REALLY liked the Yak
Isn’t that the B-17 that flew all the way from America.
I heard that there were 3 B-17’s on that day, Sally-B (Based at Duxford) Pink Lady from France, and the one that came from America.
Well I spoke to one of the pilots at Lossiemouth and he correctly said, in 10 years, the base will have Typhoons.
