RE: Forum Getogether?
Me again!
With regards to Battle of Britain, as the Museum does not have a copy we would have to hire one (about £150)…it would make life a little easier to use something the Museum has and believe me, we have a lot!
Tony…I could certainly get one of the “little huts”! At weekends some are less likely to be used as they are generally used by the schools in the week…I’ll e-mail you with more info about the cinema/rooms etc 🙂
With regards to Piece of Cake…we have a video copy of it here at Duxford but to my knowledge we only have the facilities to show film in the cinema…I have been trying to get my own copy of the series but with no luck…does anyone know where I might find a copy…I think the boss would be a bit suspicious if the Museum’s copy mysteriously disappeared! 😉
RE: Forum Getogether?
Oops, sorry Bob! Put it down to too many early mornings and late nights lately! 🙂
RE: Radio Times ‘Dambusters’ letter…
Damian…a wonderfully eloquent letter…I hope it gets published…
RE: Radio Times ‘Dambusters’ letter…
I read this letter last night and I am still seething…was the silly old trout (I have more choice words for her but they are far less polite) asleep during the final scene with Wallis and Gibson, the grief of so many airmen’s lives lost etched on Wallis’ face?
If it wasn’t for men like Gibson and his boys….
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
RE: Forum Getogether?
Bob…with regards to the Officers’ Mess, IWM staff get special discount there, so if enough people are interested, something could be arranged…it would be particularly poignant considering work will begin sometime next summer on turning the Officers’ Mess into a hotel and conference centre (taking care to safeguard as many original features of the building as possible) On Saturdays minimum numbers are 60 (this does give you and your party the complete run of the Mess) not sure if we could number 60? Any thoughts guys and gals? Something less formal or is the Officers’ Mess you want? 🙂
RE: Forum Getogether?
Bob…not quite sure that the feather boa would go with my Duxford polo shirt…and I’d probably get my Spitfire earrings stuck in it some how!
Doughnut…do you live close enough to Duxford to warrant becoming a ‘Friend of Duxford’…for about £25 you get unlimited access to Duxford all year round plus you get the opportunity to attend special events such as talks at Duxford and trips to places like Coltishall and the Science Museum…just a thought 🙂
With regards to the showing of a film, I suggested Battle of Britain as I have already been fortunate to see it on the big screen here at Duxford so it was the first that came to mind! Believe it or not, the Museum does not have a copy of Battle of Britain in its collection (we have over 170,000 films, and 20,000 videos!) but I can work round that…
Dark Blue World and Target For Tonight both seem like very popular choices at the moment…any other suggestions? Dambusters? Ill Met By Moonlight? I have to admit that Battle of Britain has got a particular appeal to me as some of it was shot on the north side at Duxford 😉 We would need to cover the projectionists’ fees (for petrol) of about £20 (the projection equipment is owned and operated by a private individual, not the Museum) but I am sure we could manage that…
I think a meet at Duxford after Christmas would be just the thing to blow the cobwebs away 🙂
P.S. Bob…which showing are you attending? I’m planning on going to the staff showing on the Wednesday 🙂
RE: new member wants to share pics
Hey welcome to the board Michelle…and nice pics btw 🙂
RE: Forum Getogether?
Back again 🙂
Right guys…those of you who are interested in a meet at Duxford, would you be interested in visiting the old cinema and seeing a film…say Battle of Britain?
If you are say “yay” in my direction and I’ll see what can be done…no promises here but it could happen…:)
RE: Forum Getogether?
Well I think a get-together is a fantastic idea…I have a couple of ideas of what we could get up to here, let me check a couple of things and I’ll get back to you 😉
RE: Quiz: Name that movie.
Well #3 is from Dambusters…the rest I’ll have to think about…
Good idea for a quiz Munnst 🙂
RE: What car do you currently drive?

RE: Food near aviation museums
Well for good eating places near Duxford I recommend the Jade Fountain in Sawston for fantastic Chinese food…but not cheap…also in Sawston is Jack’s Fish and Chip Bar which does excellent fish and chips…
I hear the Red Lion at Whittlesford is said to do very good food but I would avoid the three pubs in Duxford village…service is somewhat lacking and the food is not that great either…
RE: Connie on the way to Duxford!!!
Fantastic pics Damian…Flypast, give this man a job!
She arrived at Manston at about 5.30pm on Wednesday according to the guys at the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Building…I went and took a peek at her through the fence…she looks gorgeous…:)
RE: Organising things in breweries
I am in agreement here…ok there are some improvements that could be made to this board but I thought the new forum was just too jazzy…one of the reasons I frequent this board is that it is clear to understand unlike some other boards…
And a little notice would have been nice too!
