RE: Battle of Britain
Re-make Battle of Britain and Dambusters? I rather hope not…yes, dated they may be in places, cliched too…but that is a part of their appeal…
RE: Lancasters lost in Russia
And Lancman…I haven’t forgotten your query about Old Fred, I’m just waiting for some feedback from the gentleman who flew in her 🙂
RE: Salvage Squad – 11 Feb
It’s funny you should say that Moggy…I was racking my brains last night to think if I was and unfortunately I don’t think I was…I’m pretty sure I would have remembered seeing something like that if I had been 🙂
My fiance’s father very kindly gave me some photos he had taken at some airshows he had been to in the early 1980s and some of VK in her BA livery are amongst them…I didn’t really know what VK was until last night’s programme so it was nice to learn a bit more…incidentially these photos include some fantastic shots of a Vulcan but I can’t see the serial number to identify the aircraft 🙁
RE: Salvage Squad – 11 Feb
I stumbled upon the programme by chance and thought it was very interesting…
Mike…we also have a Cierva autogyro in RAF colours on display here at Duxford…it is true that much of the autogyro squadrons’ work was secret…I believe the squadrons were given inauspicious titles like “No5 Photography Unit”!
RE: 12th February – 60th Anniversary.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-02-02 AT 12:58 PM (GMT)]Yes Moggy, brave men indeed…
There’s a Stringbag pic and more information to be found on the Spitfire and Hurricane Museum at Manston’s website http://www.spitfire-museum.com It’s in the “other exhibits” section
RE: Spitfire 3 – How I dream of airshows!
Sadsack…it’s Historic Flying Limited’s latest restoration which will be painted in the same colours…the mark of aircraft escapes me at the moment, but from I last heard, she’s pretty near completion…and TD248 is not far behind either 🙂
I’m not sure about the MKIX or MKXVIII…I haven’t seen either for a while so had just presumed they were in the blister sheds for winter maintenance…
RE: Spitfire 1 Boo Hoo
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-02-02 AT 04:57 PM (GMT)]Steve…if she was in the north east side of Hanger 2 then she is more than likely to be operated by the Aircraft Restoration Company…with the exception of the Blenheim which lives in Hanger 4 when she’s “not out on ops”, the airworthy aircraft operated by ARCO live in Hanger 2 north east when not in the blister sheds for maintenance…
As for ownership, that I am uncertain of…she may belong to Historic Flying Limited as I believe they bought and restored several Chipmunks when the RAF took them out of service…but I’ll see what I can find out 🙂
RE: The Fairey Barracuda
Thank you both very much for your help 🙂
RE: Spitfire 1 Boo Hoo
I agree Steve…that certainly looks like ML417…one of my other favourite Spits…I shall miss seeing her in Hanger 2 and gracing the skies of Duxford…it was such a fantastic sight to watch her take to the skies for the first time in 2 years last year…
RE: Spitfire 3 – How I dream of airshows!
Drooling all over keyboard here…
RE: A medley of todays visit to Hendon
Right that’s it…that’s settled the question of what to do next weekend…we’re going to Hendon 🙂
RE: Angels One Five
Thank you very much everyone…a trip to WH Smith this weekend it is then 🙂
RE: Pretty little cat
I have a great deal of affection for the Wildcat…I think she’s a spirited little plane 🙂
RE: Nice pair
A nice pic indeed Philo…and expect to see that lovely Spit back on the scene this season 🙂
RE: F15 … and B-24??
Sadsack…you don’t have to remind me that the OFMC lost Mark Hanna…his loss is still very much felt here at Duxford…
And as for TFC? Well we still miss Hoof Proudfoot and Guy Bancroft Wilson too…
I have absolutely no wish to get into an argument with anyone over this…but when I wave an aircraft out of Duxford one day for it to crash a couple of days later…well it’s going to be a very emotive subject for me
