Of course we all remember Asley’s unprovoked assault on the SR71 with a yellow duster?
Moggy
Git 😡
:p
And I think that the box on the trolley is far more likely to contain computer parts rather than bits of Spitfire 😉
Driving home yesterday I was reminded of why I work at Duxford – as I was heading west along the A505 the Catalina was cruising gracefully eastwards and our paths crossed (not literally of course, I should imagine that a Catalina colliding with a Focus could be quite messy ;)) It was a beautiful day and a lovely sight to behold as the Catalina soared over me 🙂
Castle Air provide Lundy Island’s helicopter service when the island’s ship does not or cannot sail. Had a fantastic flight back from Lundy one year sat next to the pilot, amazing views of the island and of the North Devon coast I know so well too. I am pretty sure that Castle Air are also used quite a bit for the TV series ‘Coast’.
*Edited to add* Castle Air’s website: http://www.castleair.co.uk/
Plus, ok it’s wikipedia, but a bit more info here as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Air
Nashio…If you’re not happy with the current Mrs, then call it a day.
Whatever you do, don’t be an **** and road test the potential new Mrs first, as a) it could suggest to the potential new Mrs that you are only dipping your toes in the water so to speak, and b) the current Mrs may well be tempted to rip you a new ******** if/when she finds out you road tested her replacement while you were still with her.
As Blue says – there is no point in staying in a relationship if you are not happy – it’s not fair on either of you.

I suspect that they’ll have a very long walk and emerge in the ruined cellar of a Liverpool Hotel to be greeted by a grumpy old git saying “I told you so”.
:D:D:D:D:D
*Edited to add* I wonder what happened to Mr Williams? It must be 6/7 years since round one of “Storkgate” began…
*Bump*
I can personally vouch for ranroz’s sincerity and commitment to this worthy cause.
If you or your organisation would like to help raise some money by donating money for one of these wristbands or by stocking them, I am sure ranroz will only be too pleased to hear from you 🙂
Sorry if I sound rather confrontational here, but weren’t Uni fees paid by the government prior to 2003 (IIRC)? Therefore if you went to university before then you effectively got a free university education.
Errr, 1998 was the first year of students contributing to tuition fees – I know, that was the year I trundled off to Kent as a undergraduate 🙂
I am still paying for those fees now. Do I have a problem with that? No. I was 19 when I went to uni, an ADULT, responsible for myself. Why should I have had it all handed to me on a plate? Believe me, things feel much better when you have had to work for them. I worked part time while at uni to help get me through, and that definitely helped.
I am afraid I have no sympathy for those who acted violently or thuggishly during the protests. While I don’t agree with the protestors at all, I respect the fact that people have the right to have a different opinion to me. But expressing that opinion by assaulting people, trashing vehicles, setting fire to statues and so on…I don’t think so!

Not necessarily so, Mogmeister General 😉 Betacam, Video8 and VHS-C (the latter primarily aimed at the consumer market) were already well established by 1987, so even amateur footage taken on the day could have been shot on video. You are right in that a number of people would still have been using film, but the majority of professionals and even a number of amateurs had moved onto that new fangled video nonsense by then 🙂
Hi merkle…was the third photo taken at Watchet by any chance? We saw HMS Gay Archer there last month when we were pootling through on the steam train – she looked fantastic 🙂
“Press speak” cracks me up sometimes…one of my favourites is “recently discovered film found in a dusty vault” when the film in question has been fully catalogued, labelled, and available for years.
But at least the Daily Mail is flagging up men like these…in this increasingly politically correct world where we are expected to be apologetic for the past at least these men are still getting the recognition they deserve.
Tim, there will very shortly be a version of Operation Grapple online (in the next few days I am told). This is the longer version of the Operation Grapple documentary, filmed by the COI for the Air Ministry. There is a shorter version filmed for the Atomic Weapons Establishment whicch duplicates many scenes. This should also be available in due course.
I can assure those of you with an interest in atomic weapons that there will be some excellent footage being made available, in the hopefully not too distant future.
Sorry, thread drift!
There’s a super scene inside the cockpit of a Shack whilst on patrol with the drivers enjoying a nice cuppa – I wonder if she was yours?!
Regards,
Frank
I would also be interested in knowing the answer to this question, particularly as I recently catalogued the originals of this material.
Keeping posting Tim, your posts always make interesting reading 🙂
The Hangar leaks, the aircraft belongs to the IWM, and no, the aircraft will not be run up. IWM aircraft are all maintained as statics only.
One for me from daviesi.
