Becka, a few of us noted that there appeared to be a lot less rubbish bags tied to the fences than there usually are. It’s no excuse, if there’s no bin bag nearby people should take their crap away with them.

I will put forward a suggestion that more bags are placed up towards the western end of the site, as it seemed to me that this is where the majority of the rubbish problems were, would you agree?

    Moggy…behave…else I’ll get the whip out in a minute…

That’s as opposed to whipping things out before anyone says anything…

And I would dearly love to know (although I am sure the answer will not be found here ;)) why so many people lug their huge picnic baskets/carrier bags full of food over from the car parks, plonk themselves down for the show, and discard all their rubbish around them while eating, leaving it behind when they go. Do these people sit in their armchairs at home and just throw their rubbish down onto the carpet? Ok, there may well be times when the rubbish bins and bags are full (in which case, take your rubbish home with you?) but I can assure you, that IWM staff will be doing their best to clear the rubbish as soon as possible (which on a packed airshow day, is sometimes not easy!) As I have commented elsewhere, I notice that the largest crowds tend to congregate towards to the west of the site now – maybe the powers that be have not realised that yet and put enough rubbish bags down that way? Any thoughts?

Finally Duxford…. You need to pay for the bins to be emptied of a Saturday night… Talk about a flight safety hazard!

Would you elaborate for me please? Is this statement based on departing from Duxford late on Saturday night, or arriving at Duxford early Sunday morning – I would be interested to know.

moocher…as an IWM employee (a cataloguer, so I guess I’m one of those poor sods in archiving ;)) I asked in case your post was directed at a specific individual and I had missed something. That’s all. I know you have clarified who your post was levelled at in subsequent posts, but in case anyone else is under the impression that all staff employed by the IWM at Duxford have no interest in the aircraft and the history of Duxford and of the RAF, then I can assure you that this is not the case.

I think both sides of this argument have merit. Lessons can be (and I believe in some cases have been) learnt. Without the private operators Duxford would simply be another Hendon, packed full of lovely aircraft, but dead to the senses. But please remember folks, there are IWM people doing good stuff at Duxford (and don’t worry, I don’t think I’m all that, there are folks producing more worthwhile work than me, but I hope I am doing my bit in recording and preserving history).

    Not really.

They go by the information they are given from the movements team. The line up will be in place (now), but only for today, as the Anson will be back inside.

Exactly…and the movements team can only go as fast as they can. It’s a lot easier to move an Airfix Lancaster than a real one.

The IWM is damned if it does, and damned if it doesn’t. No, it’s not perfect, but somebody please show me a large organisation that is.

I am not going to argue about this with anybody, I’ve got films to catalogue and a house move to keep me busy.

    I’m out of here.

    Play nice everyone :p

I Agree! Bloody hell- I mean it was only a few days ago when Darren posted the pix of the Lanc outside that everyone started grumbling for an Avro line up – look back through the posts! Then IWM ‘listen’ and its STILL not good enough.

Must be tough working at the IWM!!!!

    Exasperated

Just off over the road now to snap some aircraft…the RE8 had just been pulled out when I got in this morning…
