Is this the same as The Deer Hunter? Didn’t know they changed the name elsewhere! – Nermal

Yes, I had a strange feeling when I posted it…I knew the original title was something else and not “El Francotirador”, which is the way they “dubbed” the title when running the (edited and shortened) film on local TV.

A bit confusing also, cause there is a french film with JP Belmondo, me thinks, called “The Sharpshooter”, on the same great line of movies as The Marginal, and The Professional.

The Deer Hunter, great movie indeed. I later watched it again in english, but didn’t dig the title.

e – Mirage IIIC and Mirage IIIE

Easier than measuring the length is looking for the canopy. On the C the canopy is halfway “buried” between the air intakes, while on the E the canopy’s rear hinges are just at the same line as the air intakes (cause the plane is 1 foot longer).

As for the doppler radar bulge on the “chin”, not all E’s have them (argie E’s for instance).

    King Jester

Edition: PS: Just occured to me another way of telling them appart, its the exhaust tail cone. On the C its has the “clamshell” two blade pipe, while the E has the multiblade pipe.

Only know a few, me thinks:

    #1 – name aircraft with
    a – all-moving and folding vertical tailplane USN A-5 Vigilante ?
    c – folding ventral fin Mig-23/27 ?

#5 – name the southernmost airfield ever regulary served by the US Navy. Where is it, which unit? McMurdo ? Antartcica, South Pole? Unit ?

#7 – name the smallest manned jetfighter: Goblin (already posted) or the Heinkel Volksjaeger or the Fi-103 Reichenberg ?

#12 – name at least three jetfighters designed by German expatriates after WW2 Hal Marut by Tank in India, FMA Pulqui 2 by Tank in Argentina, Hispano Saetta by Messerschmit in Spain (not really a fighter, but a trainer)

#13 – name five helicopters with multiple piston-engines
    Piaseky Flying Banana is one.

Here in Buenos Aires public transportation is, lets say, decent.
Subway is quite good, though the capacity of the transfer stations, the busiests ones, has been outmaxed some 20 years ago. Rebuilding them to fit the current and future needs is costly and quite complex (most of the tunnels and stations date back to 1940’s) and isn’t gonna happen any time soon.
Suburban and commuter trains are very good on some routes, and suck on others. Half of the routes are equipped with modern electric cars, while the other half still runs on noisy and slow diesel engines. Worst thing is on the older cars the doors are not automatic, and saddly to often pickpocketers or hooligans throw victims from the trian while trying to rob them.
Buses! Jeez, Buenos Aires is a megacity with about 12 million people (city + suburbs), and there are over 1100 bus lines. 15 years ago most of the buses where based on Mercedes 1114 truck chasis. But the industry has catched up, and now most of the buses are modern, low clearence, air suspension vehicles. About 1/10 run on compressed natural gas already, instead of diesel, which hardly even produces combustion smoke and noise.

As for taxis, they buzz around like a beehive (coincidentally, taxis are yellow and black!!), and are in many cases the cheapest transport means from point to point. For example, two people riding bus + subway spend at least 4 $ (about 1.5 dollars), while a taxi ride, door to door, may cost 5 $ !!

Seattle!! Bar hopping and plenty of night clubs; fishmarket and salmon festival; mild winters and protected waters; and for being a mayor US city it’s quite pedestrian freindly.

The Twin Cities and Chicago are very appealing too, I doubt I would like the winters there, though.

The Mustang airfield attack made me jump out of my chair! Still gives me the goosebumps, whenever I see that scene.

Empire of the sun is fantastic. Extremely profound movie.
I like the scene when the boy leaves the fancy party to fly his glider. He finds the downed japanese plane, crawls into the cockpit wearing dark Ray Bans and plays mock aircombat with the glider. Supreme!! Spielberg at his best.

PS: One of the funniest aviation sequences is Ahnold dodging skyscrappers in downtown Miami in a Harrier II. Realism=zero, but very, very funny. Can’t recall the name of the movie, Schwarzenegger and Jamie Curtiss, spy movie…. bad guy gets fired thruw building on the tip of a Sidewinder…..

There is that new word “strategery”. It means, ehmm, well it means, probably, I don’t know what it means. What one thing is certain, we started using it very often in 2000 or so when playing darts over a few beers.
I.e. “Is your “strategery” to rak cricket points on the numbers you have already closed, or is your “strategery” to go for the numbers the other player has closed?”
