It will be a very sad day indeed when 603 is scrapped. especially after those guys put in all that work to keep her intact. I take my hat off for them.

Aswell as this video being pretty cool in itself the camoflaged vulcan taking off at the end of it looks a wee bit like 575. The only proof i have of this is the twin flat plates on the bottom of the engines which are… ECM? i forget. either way 575 has two and its one of only a few (possibly the only one) fitted like this.
EDIT:
Turns out it isnt 575. Its XL389, the only other Olympus 301 engined vulcan to be fitted with the twin ecm plates. On the dvd (classic british jets: vulcan) it is just possible to make out the 101sq emblem on the tail fin before she launches herself skyward.
I’m one of the modelers for ysflight. I’m a member of the yspilots forum under the username ‘Lord flasheart’. I’ve recently been spending alot of time modeling a detailed Avro Vulcan Addon. It is currently still in the works but should be released around easter time.
Heres a few screenshots:

Well, we used a bucket with a sealable top in the end, as far as i know the septic tank on 575 was removed long ago, if it had one at all. I’ve seen pictures of it in goose bay so it probably did. Fortunately all 3 of us only had to use it once. I can officially say it was the longest 16 hours of my life and i dont plan on doing it again anytime soon. On a lighter note, we’ve raised around £200 for comic releif, which is pretty good considoring it was planned and organised in 6 days.
Hopefully this winter we’ll be able to restore the cockpit, there’s some corrosion on the inside of the windows and the paint in the instrument panel is a little uneven and untidy.
I hope not or someone will need a considorably large kick up the behind.
Comic relief Falklands comemoration tomorrow 6am to 10pm.
16 hours in the cockpit of XM575. Should be a tough one.
A first since ’82?
🙂
Something tells me that if there is a 2010 Pledge campaign Joe public isnt going to be as obliging to see it through, even if the economic depression improves beyond beleif, it’s still the same old story we’ve heard time and time again.
Hopefully this miracle buisness plan will work better than the old/current one. Inviting the puiblic to the engine test and hosting it as an event was a good idea. As i’ve said before, keeping her shut up in a hangar doing nothing is no good, wheras if events such as engine runs/tests are hosted the enthusiasts will willingly pay to spectate.
Option 1: Keep her shut up in hangar
pros: temporary protection from the elements
cons:
unable to make money
makes VTS look selfish
Option 2: Invite public to test runs
pro’s:
keeps the aircraft from deteriorating
Makes money
doesn’t make VTS look selfish
cons: organisation. nothing major, just involves extraction of fingers.
You dont need to be a brain surgeon to figure out which option is better.
Still, with less than 10 hours remaining, and a supposed £60,000 away from the target of £1 million, will they make it?
fingers crossed 🙂
V1: The point of no return.
Shes geting close now 🙂
Another £100,000 in the pledge fund today 🙂
Its starting to look promising…
As long as you don’t ask for or accept donations it is legal! and you can accept and ask for pledges as well.
🙂
Dam. I know what i should have been doing on saturday then. I havent got any pledge forms so i wouldnt have been able to receive pledges but i would definitely have been able to get some names for the e-petition.
Bummer.
Still, the target is nearing, just a few more turns left on the road before the target is in sight.
That, i must say is a pretty good idea. I have considored in the back of my mind going into town, setting up a banner and shouting out ‘save the vulcan’ but i’m not entirely sure thats legal without a permit.
Still, I wish VTS well and hope they suceed 🙂
I’ve just checked again, and i’ve sent 10 dozen emails out that will hopefully be resent by the recipients to help raise awareness of 558’s troubles.
Still £90k on the plege campaign today. Damn impressive.
Bringing the total to £610,000
Its still a long shot but i’ve got my fingers crossed on this one 🙂
I’ve just checked too. The find now stands at over £532,000. They still need to average over £80,000 a day from now on. These guys need a miracle.
Did it happen to have anything to do with the ground by any chance?
I hate to be sarcastic but the only way i see 558 flying this year is if VTS manage to materialise a miracle of epic proportions out of thin air in the next few days.
