I’m not sure. I think its something to do with that the CAA will withdraw her permit to fly if any member of the public is near or within the aircraft unescorted by an engineer. I don’t really understand it myself. I can see your point there is no reason why she can’t be rrolled out for photo shoots etc if the proper precautions are taken in the organisation. The only flaw with the plan is the lack of effort from 558’s event organizers, otherwise stuff like that would have started happening regularly a long time ago.

Whatever happens now due to the CAA regs etc, XH558 most likely won’t be rolled out again until it is time for flight testing, or the permit to fly is withdrawn. Either way, I’m just going to do my best to help raise as much money as possible for the vulcan scramble next week. It will be a shame to see her leave the skies, but something tells me those olympus engines have not yet taken their last roar.

    Moggy, Bruce,
Thanks for clearing that up. In all honesty I didn’t really know what i was looking for. The difference in the two figures made me ask myself questions which you two have been answered. 🙂

something is a bit fishy with the 2007 income and expenditure figures. With half a million quid difference between the two figures it looks somewhat fishy. I would say that the missing figure is down to employee pay checks but in most buisnesses/companies that in included in the expenditure. Just to be clear i’m not making any accusations, but i’m sure myself and others would like to know the whereabouts of this £500,000+

As for the plege campaing, it is starting to become irritating, and as much as VTST think it is the way forward, i persoanlly disagree. I stand by my earlier statements that the aircraft should be unveiled more for photoshoot events, APU runs, and even slow and fast taxi runs. Unfortunately i don’t think this miracle will happen. It will sadden me and many others greatly to see her grounded.

The LPG guys let you sit in their cockpits, and those aircraft air supposedly airworthy birds. I see no difference in arrangements.

I didn’t mean into the cockpit area itself where the pilots sit, I meant the area where the air electronics officers and flight engineers sit. Those seats are non ejector.

I’m not sure how much you know about the hangar tours but these take place every Sunday & I believe you can book them during the week for larger parties, & there is /was access to to 602 cockpit – the public are not allowed in 588s cockpit. The lightning twilight run last Saturday coincided with a club members day at the Gliding Club Husbands Bosworth so I suspect there wasn’t anyone to open the hangar.

As for selling the rear seats a non starter I’m afraid they are not allowed too.

The HLF paid invoices & did not just hand over a larger wad of cash, they know perfectly well what the money was spent on.

Seriously though, sacrifices must be made to ensure the return to the skies of XH558. There is not reason whatsoever why the public cannot be given guided tours of XH558’s cockpit. About the hangar tours, I meant to add that they should perform regular roll-outs, prehaps to the base of the runway so that people can walk around the embankments and take photographs of the tops of the wings etc. Parking it side by side with the Victor would also make a good photoshoot day/event.

    EDIT:
Perhaps Pleming’s resignation would be a good place to start?

The fact that XH558 is shut up in the hangar all the time isn’t helping either. The organisation is clearly making little effort to raise the money needed as the aircraft has not been seen publically for 4-5 months. Vulcan to the sky really need to get her out more (within the next week or so) HINT HINT for the public to be able to see her, and for fundraising purposes. I was at bruntingthorpe last saturday for the lightning twighlight run. There were 250 people there all of which i’m sure would have been happy to pay £1 or £2 to be granted acess to the hangar to take some photographs. They could have also opened the cockpit and given tours for £5 a head or so. That could make around £2000, and all it would have taken is 3 people to set it up. All they needed to do was open the hangar, open the cockpit, one person sat in the cockpit giving the tours, and the other two giving ground tours etc. The pledge campaign is failing, and I still cannot see how the 24hr vulcan scramble project is going to raise £750,000. I have emailed the organisation explaining these points, and i have received an evasive reply from Robert Plemming. After this week unless any real headway is made, XH558 will be grounded. And no offense Vbomberboy but if you are calling an ameteur Youtube video your utmost to save XH558, you need psyciatric attention. As for the 558PressOffice, you are trailing behind with your information and seem to be doing your utmost to aviod facing the harsh truth.

That is unbeleiveably true. I don’t quite agree with Resmoroh for the idea of having the vulcan cut up and sold as seperate components as i’m sure the enthusiasts would much rather see it in one peice. It will be a shame to see the vulcan leave the skys but i think those olympus engines still have many crowds to deafen in the near future.

Insurance would most likely be covered as bruntingthorpe already run a HP victor and the areodome used to fast taxi XH558. Feul would be an aditional cost to the running of the aircraft but I’m sure it is feasable. The other money troubles really are solely down to the vulcan to the sky trust. They had good intentions and I am one of the many who would like to see their work continue but I think they would have loads less problems if they had a big commercial sponsor right from the start. I’m sure they sought it. Unfortunately it looks very much like the dream of keeping the vulcan airborne will go unrealised.

Weren’t they going to fly it out to waddington for the history part? I beleive it was based there when it was in service. Still i suppose the odds of it staying at bruntingthorpe are looking equal if not more than likely the way things are going. It would be nice if it stayed at bruntingthorpe. Atleast it will be garaunteed regular fast taxi runs.
