I get the wing change link but to name one of the largest brutish strike jets after Europe’s smallest bird of prey dies seem bizarre…
Surely an early variant model- hard to be sure but wings look too short for a C
Now that’s a proper Nimrod!:p
Indeed! I always used to think from the front the the ‘rod in that scheme had a big smiley face, especially with the double bubble skull shape cross section. 😀
Thanks for the later comments all…
Nikon D300 + 70-200 f2.8VRII + Nikkor 1.7TC. A combo I’m really pleased with.
🙂
Not quite, German & Italian Airforce G.91s used to visit the Mawgan shows towards the end of their service. Pretty sure I’ve seen Portuguese ones at Fairford aswel.
I meant Italian AF “R” variants, certainly recall 2x “Y”s at Mawgan ’91 and Lossie in ’88, but thats about it. Very rare little jets…
As said German, and later Portuguese ginas got around a bit.
Makes you think a little, where we in any danger in those days wandering up close to live aircraft?
Today as you say H & S would have panic attacks with the general public so close to aircraft and the Beverley would have produced an instant litter of kittens.
Why? Its well footed and attached at top end with hand rails on both sides…
Superb collection, what lovely aeroplanes. As said, those Ginas must have been straight out of the box and making possibly the only visit of non Frecce G91s to a UK show??
Thanks gents, much appreciated, and yes, the Avanti is a bit of a looker in an odd way..
Blimey !! a Rush fan …. didn’t think I’d find one of those here 🙂
I thought it was “every nerve aware”…??
Roll on 22 May… 😉

:p

Its been removed for a record attempt….
Whats that then? Seeing just how quick a Lightning can run out of fuel whilst taxying?!
Whats happened to ‘458’s belly tank??
Last few years at Llanbedr, they used an Alpha Jet instead of a Hawk as the chase aircraft.
Indeed, ZJ645 appears to have been the culprit, still in it’s awful GAF “lizard” scheme.
It is.
Of the last classic aircraft operated by RAE/DERA !
Don’t forget T&EE 😀
To stay with the original thread, only red/ yellow drone aircraft were mentioned so that narrows it down to 3 or so Vixens, many Meteors, Jindis and Fireflys. At least one (more?) Jindiviks went black.
However for completeness we should also mention –
Hawk T.1 XX154 – the very first Hawk, still operational at Boscombe but now in awful black. Stayed in it’s original scheme then “rippled” in ’92

Hawk T.1 XX160 – “rippled” for Llanbedr use then blacked. Went to 100Sqn, now in store

Devon C.2 XA880 – now in pieces at Little Rissington
Navajo Chieftain ZF521 – sold to the USA
A few pics of the fleet..

I do hope its the Indian markings option, the Last of the Many has already been done and really doesn’t represent the Hurri as a war machine…:(
Super stuff. How much of that “older stuff” is still airworthy??
