    I agree Andy

we do sometimes take for granted the kindness offered by the Walton family……….. others don’t realise.

Dave actually spent £10,000 on getting it stripped, filled and painted!!

What a complete waste. Money to burn some people…. 😡

What’s going on at Murcia???? May take a trip down.

    “Aire 06”

Big airshow, with most of the action taking place over the local beaches!

When was the last time the RAF fielded a full PR.9 solo display….?

I can’t say I recall one since one season back in the mid-late 1980’s which would mean 20 odd years ago nearly…. 😮 😮
I distinctly remember an awesome solo PR.9 display at one of the West Malling Great Warbirds displays sometime then.

That alone could be some sort of record….longest interval between service solo displays….. 😀

1989 was the last PR9 solo routine. I cant recall any previous to that but saw many do various height recce runs, finishing with a max rate climb! WOW!
1990-1991 had a TT18 from 100 sqn fill the gap – good but not quite the grunt of a ‘9! Rumour has it the 1989 pilot caused a bit of stir at IAT ’89 (the very hot one!) After his saturday display, he was reprimanded by the flying control committee for an as yet undisclosed breach of the strict rules. He departed sat pm allegedly in somewhat of a strop , never to be seen again! If anyone can enlighten/ fill in, quantify that story, I’d love to hear it.

The Waddo appearance is more of a tribute because there is going to be a large gathering of ex-Canberra blokes there. This includes an invite to all squadrons who used to fly the Canberra to bring, if they can, one or two of their current aircraft. The Canberra Assoc will be there of course with its usual tented enclosure on the crowd line (on the Sunday) but there will also be a VIPish marquee on both days I believe for the expected crowds of ex-Can people. Methinks this will mostly be for VIP ex- and current aircrew though. I know it is certainly hoped that AA and Classic Flight can show up with the T.4 and B.6 – that would be good.

The RIAT appearance is probably going to be the last service Canberra display, anyway, the 39 Sqn blokes understandably want to go to the party there.

    .

Indeed. Waddo have also invited former (& current!) Cranberry users to the party, though the chances of anything from India, Argentina,Peru, Venezuela etc are remote! Rumour control suggests that the NASA WB57 that appeared last October is due another European deployment around the same time and so ….. 😉

The German AF test unit could send something, far more likely than Boscombe Down sending anything interesting to mark the long and varied Canberra test roles around the world

Be good to see a PR9 blasting round the skys, pity that it couldnt last the whole season!

I bought a BUSH DVD/VHS recorder combo – dead easy, tapes direct from VHS/ camera to DVD on either permanent or re-recordable discs. 4 quality modes from High quality to extended play (i.e. 8 hours worth of recording though quality slips) Cost £200, though probably get them cheaper now.

I bought the entire series of Sailor on VHS – excellent views of Bucs, phantoms, Gannets, Seas Kings and Wessex on board Ark Royal during the 1976 sailing to the U.S. – fantastic!!
I also have several of the RAF recruitment films on VHS that were shown to us Air cadets, 12 sqn Buccaneers, Bruggen taceval, Nimrod, Helicopters really good nostalgia!

Would like to see “test pilot” from the mid-80s, have got the book but would love to see the series again, especailly the ETPS lightning sequence!!

Just a thought that with the October show discount offer, could the organisers/participants see fit to repeat the mass Spit & Hurri formations as surley that is the reason why many vistors turned up on the Sunday??

An amazing sight & experience and a shame to loose it to the weather!….

Was anybody at Coningsby 1988, weather excrutiatingly hot with no clouds, palatable local cheap beer just for starters.
The first Queens Birthday flypast by Tornado F2’s took off for London and flew back in formation, though I can’t remember whether there were 9 or 16, I know that one had to abort and made the shortest landing I’ve ever seen by a Tornado, the rumour was that they had concrete in the nose in place of radar.
This was followed by a dogfight with the local OCU Phantoms which took up a lot of sky.
Highlight of the day was the assembly at the BBMF hanger of every flyable Spitfire from around the country plus several non flying gate guards, I seem to remember that 7 took off and made one ragged formation pass, including Spencer Flacks red one, I think that the Merlins were suffering from the heat, would this have been the biggest Spitfire formation from the Battle of Britain filming till Duxford’s Spitfire show?

I think you’re ahead of yourself – this sounds like the ’86 show Spitfires 50th, they flew 9 F2s (they had F3s by ’88 ) and 2 appeared with a VC10 (pic) and IIRC 8 spits made it along with the unusual sight of the Lanc with the 2 Hurricanes – v nice!! Do you think I can find a pic of that!!?? Its somewhere I’m sure.

F2s did have concrete to act as ballast due to the foxhunter radar not being up to speed. 😡

just as a matter of interest, those in the Cosford area, keep October 12th free. If all goes well a RAF C-17 is delivering a F111! will keep you up to date (unless someone else does!). managed to get over other side of airfeild last week. The reseident Andover is slowly being dismantled, not sure if for scrap or its moving elswhere yet.

Thanks for the info- should be very impressive!

    Hmmmm….. thinks…..

How much will that little RAF diversion cost, bet it makes the cost of lining up all 3 v-bombers pale into insignificance! What would you rather happen?
