Thanks for the replies guys, good to see that so many think it a good idea – not just me!
OK so the Vulcan and Victor cant be moved but as Damien B says the valiant’s still in bits and could be assembled adjacent to them. There was a bit of hardstanding in front of 2&3 where all 3 could be positioned, I suppose it all depends where the valiants final resting place is to be, surely they’re all going to be together in the new carbuncle, oops sorry building??
Never say never, come on chaps get those emails going – you never know!
p.s. no reply yet from Cosford…
Hi Kodak,
While a few of the forumites above impress themesleves to death, and fail to actually achieve anything, I suggest you take your perfectly reasonable suggestion to Cosford directly. It’s unlikely to be looked apon favouribly, but stranger things have happened. They’ll have a lot on, a tight schedule already planned down to detail, and no great interest in taking it on board – so I suggest you point out that you’ll post their reply on a ‘well known’ historic aviation forum.
It’s perfectly common for a press photocall to be set up with museum aircraft – they will want publicity for the project. Sadly the timing and public interest element of “All three V bombers together again” is small, but as I’ve said, if you don’t ask you’ll don’t get.
After all, England’s chances at the Ashes on 21st July were 12/1 against – ‘Rank outsiders’ and came into this test as 4/7 favourites! 😀

JDK & kev35 (mainly) thanks for some positivity and rational replies!, Christ, you post about something directly relating to preservation of great British aeroplanes and get shot down big time.
I have emailed Cosford, but I dont know how much clout you get by going through the general email enquiry address. Could do with a number of us contacting some senior people, thats really why I tried here just in case there was someone “in the know”. All I find (as usual) are negative individuals who are too quick to go off on a tangent and have a go at each other…
Agreed about the location of the vulcan & victor that damn great monstrsosity of a new building is in the way! You may be able to get all 3 lined up at the “top” but only having a quick walk round, didnt get much of a feel for the access etc. Again thats why i posted, hoping that anyone working or resident there would have a better feel for the place…
Just thought it would be a great opportunity, never to be repeated and why not try??
At the very least why should leaving the Valiant out a few days in the open be such a major problem ??
Dead stick – since we no longer have to pay for museum entry I presume that any revenue loss is being made via the governemnt, i.e. my tax so indirectly I’m funding this work.
Well find a tractor and get going then perhaps the engineers have better things to do than pamper to the wishes of people whose only purpose in life seems to be to moan about why aircraft can’t be put in this position or that position just for the sake of a photo.
Engineers do what they’re told, if they’re told to position some aircraft for a photo call for a unique, British event recalling the heyday of British aerospace development then so be it.
I’ve already funded the museum via tax and lotery contributions and I still wouldnt mind contributing a bit more for this. So whats wrong with pampering the people who’s money has made the preservation of these fantastic machines in the first place possible?
Oh, and Avro’s finest – I think that the sun does move by itself but thanks for that.
Behave, it’s only temporary and looks very fitting.
I know,I know it looks, well, different. Just love the whole look of ‘597 in camo… Is this the “seafire” that was tentatively on the provisional participation list??
😡 My favourite Spit, ruined!………. 😡
Some of those wittering on were obviously filmed at Duxford however.
And the RAF Harriers AT Wittering…..
The F16 was never considered by the RAF, the F15 was though, very briefly . It’s never been operated by the RAF and the Independence day film used clever digital imagery to show the multi-nation force to fight the aliens. The miltary withdrew all support for the film due (allegedly) to the films insistance that area 51 was included, hence the directors having to “make it up”. The RAF have flown F16 many times on exchanges. The RAF havnt been stationed in SE Asia for several decades but again Tornados and more recently the new Typhoons have ben out there either supporting “colonial”(!) interests or on hot/high trials.
Is that fuel dumping from WV372? Never realised there was a vent there…
[QUOTE=Dave Homewood
How about that Vulcan, is that one in a museum?[/QUOTE]
The Vulcan was a B1, so being as we scrapped the last one at Cosford many years ago 😡 no!
After some more careful thinking, you may be right. They certainly never did it during the last few display years, but before that…. it may have happened. Somehow there’s a bell ringing far away in my memory, but I can’t fit the pieces together yet, so we’ll have to wait for someone to dig out an old video I guess.
The Dutch began their Troopship displays in 1979 and, as discussed featured very steep wing overs but never “all the way” if this happened unoficially, then so be it, but i’m sure never in public. You may be confusing this with the equally energetic Italian G222 that went one further a few years ago and included a full roll in its sequence, later 2 derry rolls were added.Very very impressive flying. I cant think of anything that big being aerobatted in the last 20 years, certainly not in Europe in public.
Painted versions, including a C1K showing how they should STILL llook before all this grey nonsense! 😡

Nice pics, somewhere in my vast collection of slides I have a shot of the SR-71 doing a fuel dump and burn at Mildenhall, I have a rather awesome video of an Aussie F-111 doing the same trick at Fairford 1993.
Tomcats are rare beasts, apart from the Arromanches flypast, the only display I’ve ever seen was Mildenhall, 92?,which I have somewhere on video. There was one on static at Fairford 93.
Cheers. The SR71 didnt dump and burn as the Aussie vark does though, it was more of a “backfire” whererby fuel was accidentally lit by the burner. The Vark display does it quite deliberately to great effect! Tomcats are/were indeed rare and Mildenhall was one of the best places to get them – that shot was from the awesome ’92 display.
More Mildenhall moments…

You should have been at Arromanches in June 1994, the JFK was off Omaha and dispatched 4 Tomcats, A-6’s, F18’s and I can’t remember what else, they linked up with a C-17 and a B1 and roared across the back off the town, I have a very wobbly video of it somewhere.
Jammy sod!! And one of the A6s had d-day stripes applied ! 😡
Greenham was the only show to have A6s in the flying display – ’76 & ’77 although Mildenhall should have had them but they didnt do the promised AAr demo with an F14. they appeared statically at several Yeoviltons too.
These are the 2 aborted Abingdon show ones (got the rest of the USN stuff too)
