They’ve got their new event tomorrow – the “Indoor Photography Day”. Why don’t you pop over there and ask?
I’d love to, only a “pop” to me is a 300 mile round trip!! Hence my wanting more info, what with ‘er indoors working most weekends, me all the others and kids, etc blah blah, I need to make the most of any visits.
Thanks any way!
I take it the Hind will be airborne??

Dunno about the Dutch one (still undergoing re-furb last I heard) but the Camarillo based bird is listed as attending:

Didnt notice a major difference between legends and IWM show display line relating to photography.
I thought the carrying of pax during display flying was a no-no any way. Surely the Don Bullock Invader accident in 1980 should have made that a display flying reg??
A few of us did comment on the crash briefly during the “low-flying/Ray Hanna – Spitfire” thread a little while ago. As I said then, if and as always its a big if, a derry hadnt been attempted, things might have been different. Especially after only 3 months on type, and with it being a type with limited flying hours, just how many actual hours in the air does that make? – 5 max?
WB271 was always a temperamental beast and has spent many display seasons grounded.
A terrible tragedy.
now thats how to paint a chopper!
So much better than our big green blobs!

Why does it say ‘TLP Mission’ on the NOTAM. In that case it’s not the Harriers.
I have read about the formation flypast elsewhere though so I think people are confusing 2 different things here.
That isnt the correct NOTAM!! This is:
0945-1035
1 X SEA HARRIER WILL CONDUCT AEROBATICS WI 5NM RAD PSN 5244N 00039W (COTTESMORE) .
1245-1430
UP TO 42 X HARRIERS WILL CONDUCT FORMATION FLIGHT DEPARTING FROM COTTESMORE (5244N 00039W) AND WITTERING (5237N 00029W) FORMATION WILL THEN FLY THE FOLLOWING ROUTE:
5241N 00042W 5251N 00021W 5225N 00001E 5238N 00019E 5246N 00022E 5302N 00014E 5316N 00046E
5348N 00231E 5230N 00249E 5348N 00231E 5316N 00045E 5259N 00045W 5314N 000108W 5253N 00054W
5214N 00004E 5222N 00008E 5255N 00015W 5244N 00039W
AIRCRAFT WILL DEPART COTTESMORE/WITTERING AS INDIVIDUAL ACFT UNTIL OVER THE SEA. ONCE OVER THE SEA ACFT WILL FORM INTO 8 SHIP FORMATIONS AND THEN INTO A 42 SHIP FORMATION FOR THE LATTER PART OF THE SORTIE. NON-PARTICIPATING AIRCRAFT ARE REQUESTED TO REMAIN AT LEAST 3NM CLEAR.
Apparantly its all due to the Harrier boys not being allowed to take their toys in the field this year so they are having a big bash from Cotty with bombing runs at Wainfleet and a (max) 42 ship fly by!!:D

The commentator was uber-god David Ogilvy. He may have been struggling for things to ay but as always, the depth of his knowledge knows no bounds.
I await to see the changes made before passing comment.
One thing I like to see (not sure if this is done) is for all the runway(s) length used on display days for visiting pilots. Attracts more custom to the display and for sunset days, likewise to the accommodation.
As the Chippy is painted as a Canadian version ,therefore should’nt it have the single frameless “bubble” canopy?? I sthat what he was getting at??
How about a Saturday show??? that would suit me fine !!

also on my visit on Saturday I couldn’t see the Hawker Fury MkI.
Has it left OW? I couldn’t see if it was in hangar 1 as it was closed due to building work.
Did the fury fly and where is it now?
Any ideas anyone?
Regards
Andy
I think like a lot of beautiful birds it winters here and then goes abroad for summer. It is registered to Brandish Holdings in the UK as G-BKBB although it spends most of its time in Belgium as
OO-HFU doing nothing!!Its CAA expires in June this year, come on OW gotta be worth a purchase or long term loan!??
Said it before on Pprune
Put the Gladiator back in RAF markings !!!
More visitors that fit in with OW – Hawker Nimrod, WW1 replicas, BBMF, Blenheim (fingers x’d)etc
Also the Duxford/OW display date clash has been well aired on that thread. – Still happening this year.

They already are northside!!
Also the comments about the time and effort to get museum a/c out – Surely its worth it in the long run and I bet theres plenty of volunteers out there to help!??I think we all realise that the aam is now sealed but for the rest…
Off on a related tangent why dont the IWM organise a “photo weekend” and get everything out for photographers (ooh err missus) . I would willingly pay for that to cover the costs of time and effort.
Step ladders – extra cost! surely not. I do agree they are a pain when some no-brainer plants his right on the crowd line with no concern for those behind. But surely all it takes is a few signs and a few coarse words by patrolling staff to move tham back a bit would suffice.RIAT have a “ladder enclosure policy”(!) and Im sure other shows could follow suit.
With Rutan aeroplanes based at Mojave I was tempted to say one of their weird and wonderful projects but theres nothing in their current “fleet” that resembles this one.Perhaps just one of their mock ups – certainly appears to have sensor pod and bays but also a cockpit bulge suggesting a manned type.

Too right because they still have luvverly Mig21s in sexy camo schemes that occasionally liven up dull international airshows!

… FA2 is arguably the most capable fleet air arm defence fighter of its generation. The aircraft can carry up to four AIM-120 AMRAAM BVR Air-to-air missiles, or two AMRAAMs and four AIM-9s, and without external fuel could even carry four AIM-120s and four AIM-9s. This is a…
Indeed if the ROA is 500 miles and the CAP endurance 2 hours and if its not too hot!!
Great new kit and gizmos but its the engine and wings that gets the thing airborne and in this area the SHAR is still very much a 1970s harrier. F/A2 should have had the uprated donkey and big wings – then they may have stood a chance of still being in service!
Superb show with a unique atmosphere, but we are here to add suggestions-
Has been said before – a photographers day on the Friday would be great.
Also how about the museum dragging some bits’n pieces out of the museum and having them parked sympathetically for photographers rather than in the general static.
Change the name!! OK Spits, Mustangs, B17 etc true legends but Beech 18, La9, Yak 3, Hawker Nimrod – great ‘planes but legends??
It really is a 1918-1945 show isnt it? If we mean legends then we need Fokker DR1, Camel, Fokker EIII, F86, F4, lightning, Vulcan, Harrier – even if not flying then static.
