Bless ’em, another unsung hero of the RAF…
Finningley line up
Last solo display year, 1983
4 ship run and break at finningley
low level in Wales

Going right to the end of the runway at home base.
Here she is at the start of the take off run…

Just looks like a very ordinary take off pic, if I had doctored it, it would have been flying through the open windows of that Sierra!
A lot of images on here are post take off low fly bys including these…

More?
1992 display pilot, name escapes me at the mo. (sssh, yes he was the one who did the wheels up landing in Chile…)

Here he is taxying out at Wroughton,

Off the grass, Middle Wallop 1992

GR7 in “operation warden” scheme,1994
GR5 in the original greys scheme, Boscombe ’92
3Sqn GR5, Brize 1990
3Sqn GR3, Cambrai ’87
There are several Bell47 Sioux knocking around, including the AAC historic Flight’s, they also fly a Scout and Alouette II too. Due to a rather short sighted ruling, all Skeeters have been grounded unfortunately. A Hiller, incorrectly painted up as a RN version but welcome none the less used to be a regular at Waddington air show, have’nt seen it for a while though. Apparently there’s a Whirlwind that is being made airworthy again; whatever happend to that lovely 32Sqn machine I saw at a fewe aishows in the late ’80s?? There were a couple of airworthy Sycamores in Germany but again, haven’t heard much about them recently.
Of course the RAF are still flying 40 year old Pumas – do they count?!
Lovely stuff Mr Aeroclub. Those big ferry tanks almost look grotesque under those tiny GR1/3 wings! Never seen that sharkmouthed one before – Belize??
Hi kodak,
Thanks for all the great photos. In the ones of ‘F’ and ‘M’, 5th and 6th last photos the squadron colours are opposite, why is that?
Paul
I never noticed that! Paint shop blunder?
Interesting – don’t recall ever seeing a GR5/7/9 with a Lepus on it before
Indeed, not the commonest of store to be seen in public on any type. That said, this was on the operational ramp at Boscombe during the 1992 show. Even the MATRA pod on the T4 was a rare sight in the ’90s!

A few “oldies”…
SAOEU T bird
SAOEU GR7
GR3 doing what Harriers should be doing
4Sqn special bird, 1989
Pretty sure this is the only 2 grey GR3 that was going to be the GR5 scheme, pre Greens. Finningley 1984, wish I had a better picture..
20SQN/233OCU T bird
1993 display bird awaiting it’s driver
Only airshow appearance by a Belize based 1417FLT machine, though by now it was on the strength of 233/20

The Swiss air force, including their display team Patrouille Suisse, still flies the F-5E Tiger. As does the Turkish air force display team.
The Turks fly the F5A/B and ex Dutch NF5A/B, not E/F Tiger IIs. They have recently been upgraded and fly in weapons training roles as well as the team. They also use the T38 Talon as their advanced trainer.
As said, Spain use a handful of F5Bs.
The Swiss do still indeed fly the F5E/F, the Austrian loan ones have been returned now that the Typhoon is in service.
Unfortunately, apart from the Swiss team they are very rare at UK airshows.
Why RIAT can’t grab a Spanish one or two or even a standatrd turkish one for static I’ll never know. Same to be said about a nice camouflaged Moroccan or Jordanian one too…

😀
Thanks both, quite a sporty looking number actually…
Fantastic films, Gutersloh looks like it was great place to spot, something you wouldn’t necessarily expect given location and era!
Thanks for sharing, there’s also a nice 92sqn F.2A video next to one of those.
I know what you mean, that close to the “other side” and in those days! 😮
I’m amazed by the quality of some of the photographs on the site as well as the vids. Superb stuff!
Sea Vixen?
Hmm.. I duno, it seems too bulky side on. I’ve watched it a few times and can’t make my mind up. I’m tempted to say Scimitar but surely a “pokey” naval jet on finals would be pushing out some smoke?
Is it definitely Finningley, certainly looks like it; just that it looks like Victors on the ORP. Were HP’s finest at finningley at that time??
