I understand that Paul Day is playing with it currently. It certainly was active earlier on in the year and I guess it will be more active after Paul has left the BBMF.

It was but it moved earlier in the year as Coningsby is short of a runway currently (or soon will be).

I guess that will be dependant upon the weather as well, I think they are trying to beat the number they had last year (from memory 13 or 14). If it stops raining it could be a good event. I hear a rumour that some of them may be taking part in a navigation exercise along the Norfolk / Suffolk border at some point in the day.

Not sure I have a favorite but I suppose that it must be a choice between the Hunter, Lightning and F86 Sabre.

I’m not sure if it ever got going, last I heard the Mustang was still in America. Interestingly Flug Werke were threatening to start manufacturing Mustang structures last year but I haven’t heard anything since.

Wings and Things is an event organised by Rob Davies at his strip in Kent, it’s not just aircraft but other forms of transport (Steam, Classic Cars etc) as well, however there is a flying display.
As for taking a step ladder, I’m sure you can, just be prepared to be blown off it by a Mustang 😀

I’m not sure I actually agree. Many people are working long and hard to ensure that the standards of originality in vintage aircraft rebuilds are as authentic as they can possibly be.
These days it’s possible thanks to specialists throughout the world to rebuild to stock condition an aircraft from the smallest of sections (I’m not getting into a real vs replica debate). Specialists exist for amongst others, the Spitfire (Historic Flying), Hurricane (Hawker Restorations), Mosquito (Glynn Powell) and Mustang (Bob Odegaard and others in the US).
Aircraft that were considered junk a few years ago can now be rebuilt to as new condition and I feel that the effort should be concentrated in this direction rather than something trying to replicate an original but using different engines etc.
Vintage aircraft in the UK and I’m sure the world over are maintained to incredibly high standards and are no less safe than the average modern aircraft, accidents do happen however but I wouldn’t describe the attrition rate as high, but incidents are very often highly public.
I would much rather see an aircraft rebuilt to original condition than a new build replica.

This interests me, I understand that one new hanger has recently been put up and another is under negotiation with the council for a 7 year lease. However I will be writing my letter this evening. Harlow itself would be a better place for redevelopment starting with a large explosion.

I’m not sure of it’s current location, but it was in the UK 18 months ago, may still be stored. It was not Doug Arnold’s aircraft however but Flying A’s.
