Still in the same scheme, hopefully soon to emerge from it’s transfer onto the UK register.
The filming was still on hold a month ago.
The Gilmour P51 was exported to America last year and had been a Duxford resident (with ARCO) for a year or so prior to that. I’m sure it was Robs aircraft that was mentioned in connection with a Mustang line up, I guess we wait until 9th & 10th August for confirmation.
I’m not sure that you can, the only other times I’ve been to NW when there hasn’t been an event on is to see somebody or something in one of the hangers. I think that general access is difficult to some hangers and impossible to others
Certainly in previous years you have been able to get over to the hangers, but they don’t look any different up close, just big grey sheds :p
If the event is held on the Squadron side of the airfield access is pretty good and other than where the active aircraft are you can wonder around fairly freely and weep at the site of the B25 rotting to death near the motorway.
That said the hangers are usually closed, but if a door opens there is often a stampede of people clutching note books.

I know of Jumpin’ Jacques but who’s and what is the 2nd ’51?
Doesn’t Robs Lamplough still have his hanger at North Weald? I appreciate that his Mustang is away more than it’s there so it could be that one. Talk was of the desire for 4 P51’s
Alternatively Flying A Services were getting their P51D back into one lump again, so you never know……..
Last time I went to NW (about a month ago) the DC4’s were still mouldering away quietly on the Aces High ramp.
I like this idea Doughnut, however you may run the risk of the majority of visiting pilots leaving their aircraft in the ‘active’ are so as they have the flexibility of leaving when they want. I’ve never had a problem wth access to aircraft due to the various pathways laid out within the aircraft parking areas. There is as you say a risk of damage to the aircraft due to the large numbers of people who attend the Fly In on the Sunday, ad whilst the majority are responsible it would only take one indivdual to climb up on a million pound warbird and before you know it someone is in the cockpit and suddenly you have a Mustang sitting on the ramp with the gear retracted.
I hadn’t felt up to now that security was overly strict and that barriers were a major obstruction for photographers, it’s certainly better than events at Duxford I have attended.
With regard to the hangers we have to respect the privacy of the owners who pay to have their aircraft housed there, after all they do have the option of having the aircraft pulled out into the static if they want everyone to see them.
Thanks very much, I may try to get down as it’s usually a good event.
What date is the Fly in this year? Nice pic by the way YakRider, have you got a pic of the other Mustang?
Any idea which Mk IX that is?
mmmmmmmmmmm, Yak 11 , we like them. I had a good look around that later in the day. Nice aircraft and pretty stock, none of your funny American brake set ups 😀 😀

I certainly enjoyed the day. We flew to Rochester in the morning for the aerojumble, then on to Duxford for the Spits. Here are some pics from the day. the first is the scramble…
Yak Rider,
Which aircraft were you flying in at Rochester? We flew down late morning / early afternoon in time for lunch. Nice selection of aircraft there and some interesting items on the stalls.
The Yak 1 won’t be there, unless someone is building another somewhere. Looking at it on Friday there still seems to be a lot left to do.
It’s registered to Tim Manna
OK you’ve talked me into it. Aeroplanes and Beer, 2 hobbies in one day 😉
Either day is good for me too.
