I’ll be about tomorrow, can’t make Runnymede first however as:

    a) Shame on me I don’t know where it is

    b) I seem now to have a car full of furniture to drop off in Barnet on the way

All being well I’ll be at Hendon around 10.30:rolleyes:

The Flying A Services Seafire was last heard of having it’s fuselage rebuilt in Norfolk.

I believe this Spit (PL344) is now owned by Tom Blair and based at Bartow which is not that far from Kissimee. It has recently returned to the air following an engine change so perhaps he’s just getting some use out of it.

    Tom,

Is it strictly fair to say your Mrs was getting a bit long in the tooth and in need of a major rebuild??????

    RE: Mustangs – Confession Time

Polished metal would have been nice, but a pain to maintain in the UK. Certainly looks a lot different now to the way it was when it arrived in the UK.

    RE: Mustangs – Confession Time

I’ll pass your comments on about the aerial, I’m sure there is a reason why it’s like it is, however Janie is still the most authentic Mustang restoration so far completed in the UK and a fabulous achievement by those involved.

    RE: Mustangs – Confession Time

Surely Alexis, Janie is now the best looking Mustang in the UK, althogh Moose did look good.

At the time G-HAEC was sold OFMC had some hefty bills to pay, the P40 and the Yak 3 both had final payments to be made on them, so when they were offered money for the Mustang it kind of made sense. Of course as soon as the Brietling money came along it was natural that the first aircraft they would buy was a Mustang hence buying Moose, although initially they were after ‘Double Trouble Two’ from Switzerland.

    RE: strange ones

The Orange Cat is still at North Weald, well it was last summer anyway. The Cat went to live indoors at Biggin Hill for a while after this pic was taken whilst owned by Doug Arnold. It returned to North Weald in 95 (ish) and lived in Flying A Services hanger for a bit before it was sold, (rumoured to be going to Israel) and then parked outside where it sits deteriorating.

Bedsheet Bomber was last seem as a rotted hulk close to where it sits in this pic, allegedly bought by a well known UK operator some years ago, it continues to corrode away. The poor old thing really is in a mess now.

The Skyraiders were Robs Lamplough’s G-BMFC (Bu127931, WT951) and G-BMFB (Bu126867, WV181), both ex Swedish AD4W’s. These were sold to Jack Erikson in 91 along with an AD4N (Bu126912) and G-BMFB now flies as N4277N.

    RE: Lancaster B.X KB976

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-02-03 AT 09:12 PM (GMT)]Following the Woodford hanger collapse Charles Church bought the fuselage of KB994 and Lincoln RF342. Following Church’s Spitfire accident the whole lot passed to Doug Arnold. Following Doug’s death a Lancaster was sold to Kermit Weeks which on paper at least was / is KB976. I would suspect that the aircraft is a composite of KB976 and KB994 with probably some Lincoln parts thrown in for good measure. What was left out of this little lot passed through Aces High (possibly still under the ownership of David Arnold) and to an group at Sandtoft. That said last time I was at North Weald David Arnold still had a Lancaster nose section in the hanger so the full story of what’s what is still not clear.
It was also reported that the extreme rear fuselage of a Lancaster was spotted in a garden in Lincolnshire so I would assume that this is part of the fall out of the disposal of these airframes from the Warbirds of Great Britain collection.

    RE: Duxford projects current status

The AAM Mustang has a slightly different make up, being constructed largely of wood and plastic. Mind you with half the airframes in there who would know if they were real or replicas seeing as they are hanging from the roof…..rant rant rant……
