RE: Forum Getogether?
Oh go on then, you’ve twisted my arm.
RE: Forum Getogether?
Sounds like a plan
RE: Save a Sea Vixen
The IWM already have a very real Mustang, 44-73979, painted up as Big Beautiful Doll currently hanging in South Lambeth. If they really wanted a Mustang at Duxford they could return her there.
RE: Which countries’ pilots made the best airplane noises?
Mustang!!!!!!!!!!!
The air over the gunports is a superb sound, the last display I saw at Tibenham made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I want one!!!!!!!!

RE: Are we getting a little complacent????
I was looking at it from a commercial view point than that of an enthusiast.
I would love to see a Whirlwind or Defiant at an airshow, but to the average airshow goer it would be a Mosquito and a Spitfire with a turret. I happen to find the Mustang a very pleasing aircraft, and Hurricane’s flying in private hands are rarer than you think, although Hawker Restorations are working hard to change this.
Whilst on the subject of Flugwerk what happened to the idea of replica Arado’s that were being thought of at one point?
Are we getting a little complacent????
Hold on here guys, how can you possibly say that the sight of a rebuilt Mustang or Spitfire can be boring??????????
Whilst I agree that it would be very nice to see some other types resurected from obscurity it has to be born in mind that Flugwerk have to sell what they produce (just think of the time it’s taken AFC to sell their wonderful Polikapov’s) and no matter what we as die hard enthusiasts feel the P51 is still very much in demand by those paying the bills, by airshow organizers, and by those who attend airshows. The major structures that are proposed could well help an unfortunate P51 that has suffered an accident return to the air.
A few years ago I was involved with a collector in the UK who found it less easy to get airshow bookings for his aircraft because one of them, whilst being a superb pilots aircraft, was relatively unknown, and the other, a Spitfire was painted silver with a dirty great red stripe down the side (and the wings). At the time airshow organizers wanted camo Spit’s hence the bookings went there.
On top of all this in the UK the CAA would be unlikely to let a new production build machine fly here anyway as it won’t have gone through the stringent checks that normal production aircraft have undertaken.
I’m sure there will come a time when we see a wrecked Curtis Hawk fly, but until then when I win the lottery tomorrow, just after I buy a YAK11 I’ll be after a Mustang.
RE: North Weald CASA Heinkel 111
It’s the Aces High one (ex Southend Air Museum) Warbirds of Great Britain haven’t owned one since 1977. To be honest I was suprised the Heinkel stayed this long as it was owned for a time by Kermit Weeks. From a personal view point I’d rather see the aircraft exported to America and restored to fly (or used to help another fly)than it continue it’s slooooooow restoration to static with Aces High. That way one day it may come back and grace the skies over Duxford. I’m all for the trade in Warbirds, we have seen some great stuff come over to the UK over the years from America, and I’m sure they must feel as upset as we do when another one of their restorations departs for the journey overseas. I would imagine on balance over the years that things are pretty even between the two countries over the years, although just recently it all seems one way.
RE: Hendon
One that wanted to make a bit of cash
RE: Sandtoft Airfield
I was under the impression that the Lanc that CWH stole the Merlins from was the one that Doug Arnold aquired in 1984 (KB889) now with the IWM at Duxford. Up until that time the aircraft was potentially airworthy and at one time was to be flown to the UK.
RE: Boxted Three-One
When I saw you, you’d just been called to the control tower so guessed you must have been busy, next time maybe
RE: Boxted Three-One
Nice looking aircraft Moggy, on the whole it was a good day at Boxted
RE: The best of British
The wonderful piece of british engineering I drive is a Reliant Scimitar, can’t be doing with Minis, come to think of it I can’t summon up a lot of enthusiasm for Spitfires, give me a Hurricane any day
RE: The Prentice at Shuttleworth
>Interesting point Doughnut ! – It’s worth pointing out
>however that the used to be a Dragon Rapide based at
>Shuttleworth until it’s unfortunate demise at North Weald
The Rapide had it’s accident at Audley End, not North Weald, taking with it the life of a fine pilot.
RE: No longer confused am I
I may well make the trip down from Ipswich, it would be nice to see the place.
