Saw what looked like 2 Mustangs in very tight formation in the distance this morning around the Girton / Madingley area of Cambridge, would this have been Berlin Express and Frenesi?
Interesting to see the TFC Sea Fury in the background of the Berlin Express shot no longer has an engine. What happened to the R2800?
Great to see Berlin Express again, it’s a beautiful aircraft.
Looks as though Berlin Express is on its way
The only time I remember a collapse on the ground was ML417 some years ago, which had a pintle stud failure
Didn’t the same happen to PV202 at Goodwood when Ricky Roberts owned it? The repairs being done by Hawker Restorations at Earls Colne.
Is it my imagination or has the Mustang lost an exhaust stack in DCW’s photographs of it at Prestwick?
Great photos and thanks very much for sharing them
Catalina currently to the North West of Girton (Cambridge) brightening up my day at work…
Wonder if Paul Allen would want it to sit next to his IL-2 and Po-2?
Did this project ever reside with Hawker Restorations? I seem to remember being shown something very Russian at their storage facility sometime in the 90’s. For some reason I remember it being a Yak 1.
Best regards;

Hawker Restorations / AJD built the wing and other bits for this beast a number of years ago as well as carrying out other work towards completion of the project. I am not sure whether this aircraft ever spent time in the storage facility, however there was another forward fuselage / engine / cowlings etc from another Yak fighter stored there at one point.
Sad to hear this news, I had the great pleasure of meeting Michael when he visited Hardwick in 2003. It was great speaking to him and hearing his recollections of flying the Mustang in New Zealand.
2 seat dual control Tigercat?
I noticed that with SM845 a similar period between accident and subsequent restoration to flight seems to have been observed, but there doesn’t seem to be a change in how the airframe is ‘adressed’ with regard to registration and serial.
I don’t fully understand. Why would SM845 be addressed any differently? From what I recall whilst the aircraft was damaged in the accident it wasn’t a total loss.
It is however a stunning restoration.
Or possibly Alan Bales who has apparently picked up his new Pitts from Lincolnshire today and flown it back to Norfolk. I believe it’s G-BRAA
I must have looked right at them but without actually seeing them… I had a very enjoyable visit, I will definitely be back next time I am up that way.
Shame I didn’t spot the book when I visited the museum earlier today, definitely a book to add to the collection.
The aircraft I am thinking of is N1840 WD840 sold by Platinum Fighter Sales in 2012 and rumoured to have gone to France.
I thought it went to France. Whether it’s still there or not I don’t know.
