Looks like the FC 31 is taking a page from the F 35 with the small wings. And therby using the fuselage as a lift surface. That’s probably not an easy feat engineering wise.

Can’t wait to see the UAE/Russian 5th gen. I don’t think the Russians will opt for this design but it will be the exact same sized jet. Will be an intersting comparo

Judging by the speed of development and the name change and the need to assemble a carrier wing, its gotta be a go.

Considering the US used Tomcats and Russia used su 33’s, maybe a bug ass J 20 can fly off of a carrier.

Russia is not the parallel superpower that the USSR was. Nobody is saying that. But Russia is a step above most other powers other than the US. Most countries that have the money (Germany Japan UK) don’t have mature expertise and industry for indigenous power on land air sea and space. The Euro space program imported a turn key system from Russia. China and India use Russian jet engines.

GLONASS for example. Only Russia has a parallel competing satellite positioning system.

This is absurd. The Indians are just doing some Trump style negotiating.

This FGFA project has all the hallmarks of nightmare bureaucracy. It is transnational. It is for a brand new aircraft. It is between non alliance partners. It is an internal mfg licensing deal. It really has it all.

So if people want to write sensationalist headlines out of all the speedbumps that this project will inevitably hit, than go ahead. You will be at it for awhile. Will the project actually get cancelled ? Very unlikely.

For one thing, China was rumored to have been offered the same deal that India got. But India took the deal instead. There undoubtedly is massive recapture penalties built into this deal because of this. India cant just walk away.

Russia was the next country to have the nuclear bomb. Put man in space before the US. Put a satellite in orbit before the US. Built a commercially profitable rocket before the US.

To dangle stealth aircraft out like its some super technology that Russia cant master is just a joke. It really is.

Why is Russia a continental power ?

It has the biggest tank force in the world. The 2nd best air force in the world (Best wholly owned ie its paid for) It can build everything for its military inside its own borders. Whether its for space, deep water or air.

@hapsalot. You quoted RT and Sputnik. Those are unacceptable sources don’t you know..

Yes according to their self imposed targets, they are a bit late. But the way people word it, is to claim that the Raptor was designed and flying in half the time. It wasn’t. Compared to other real projects, its not late.

The PakFa isn’t running late. It took 14 years for the Raptor to go from contract award to service.

The PakFa was awarded the contract in 2002. So if it goes into service this year, it will be within 14 years and if its next year, it will be off by a year which is not “so late”

Russia elected to apply its stealth research in areas that with the least opportunity cost.

On the water, there is basically no opportunity cost for stealth features.

I didn’t just mean LO. I meant the entire design of the aircraft. Russia made the su 37 Berkut for fun.

The YF 23 was better in those 2 regards. It was mainly mothballed b/c it was ahead of its time.

I think Y 20 is right. Its much simpler for these conglomerates to go with a conventional design. Only Russia and the US have the experience to let their imagination roll
