Russia was never going to veto that bill infact Russia was among the four European powers that push Egypt into it. Russia and Israel relationship cant be strategic unless Israel fully support Russia in US congress. I don’t see any utility of Turkey and Israel for Russia unless they are leaking some thing about western systems and training. there technology is no longer attractive to Russia.

Fast forward to 7:00 into this clip. https://audioboom.com/posts/5427112-indiana-hoenlein-the-lost-penny-of-hannukah-malcolm-hoenlein-conf_of_pres

Is it an unofficial source ? Yes.

Is Malcolm Hoenlein a Russophile ? No.

Is it likely that he completely fabricated this rumor , on the fly, for ominous reasons ? Doubtful.

Peace is not in Russia interest rather peace talks to reload new systems and train new forces. If Putin really wanted to humiliate Obama it would start war with Israel. than whole maintream media and US Congress will be punching Obama to lead from the front not behind.

That’s never going to happen. Putin was oh so close to vetoing the settlements bill in the UN recently which would have really be a punch in the face for Obama.

Russia and Israel have a pragmatic relationship. The def min of Israel is friends with Putin

Yes, “according to experts”. Which leads to the question which experts? Which western aircraft? Superior at what? DCA? Interdiction? SEAD? It is a throwaway comment without context, and far different from what KGB quoted.

Mind you, I’m not looking to get into a discussion of the relative merits of the Su-35 vis a vis “Western types”. I’m sure the Su-35 meets the needs of the VKS very well. My point was specific to some news sources allegedly quoting the “Focus” article, but actually editorializing far beyond what the article actually says to the point of absurdity.

Which is all beside the point because as I said, the only reason I quoted any of the article was not to get into the merits of the Su-35 or not. I pointed to the article to counter with some reality, the claims that the India hit piece was making about so called quality control and serviceability issues of Russian equipment. And its not the Russians themselves who make the observation in the article, but Nato.

You skipped over RT and Sputnik and went to “the Strategic Culture Institute?” Seriously? :stupid:

    Some of their top headlines:

“US-Qatar Deal Threatens Russia: Reading News Between the Lines”
    http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2016/12/28/us-qatar-deal-threatens-russia-reading-news-between-lines.html

“Obama’s Halloween Scare: Temperamentally Unfit President Threatened War with Russia”

So you think that the actual report is a complete fabrication just because of the corridor that I used to present it ?

How about the New York Times ?
    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/15/world/middleeast/russian-military-uses-syria-as-proving-ground-and-west-takes-notice.html

WASHINGTON — Two weeks of air and missile strikes in Syria have given Western intelligence and military officials a deeper appreciation of the transformation that Russia’s military has undergone under President Vladimir V. Putin, showcasing its ability to conduct operations beyond its borders and providing a public demonstration of new weaponry, tactics and strategy.

The strikes have involved aircraft never before tested in combat, including the Sukhoi Su-34 strike fighter, which NATO calls the Fullback, and a ship-based cruise missile fired more than 900 miles from the Caspian Sea, which, according to some analysts, surpasses the American equivalent in technological capability.

You could have spent about 3 seconds to research that before posting. Stop embarrassing yourself.
SE has more thrust. Weight is lower.
Su-34 is more heavily configured as a striker, and RuAF did not go for higher thrust engines.

It would have been more like a 2 minutes. 😀 Whatever though. I dont recall but there is something that the su 34 does markedly better than the Strike eagle. And I don’t think they are a direct comparison either. Some people say that the F 111 Arvdark is the comparo. But you say its the eagle

1.) They have the Strike Eagle, an older Su-34 equivalent.
2.) Su-34 has been dropping a few bombs at a time in Syria, what exactly are you so blown away by?

The point of that reference was to prove that even Nato was impressed with how the Russian equipment was working. Sortie rates ect. There isn’t pics floating around of su’s being loaded into Condor’s to get the engines replaced or engine jobs being done in the desert.

For the fun of arguing, I am pretty sure that the turn radius, thrust, load is better in the su 34 than the Strike eagle.

KGB, did you actually read the article in Focus? http://m.focus.de/politik/ausland/nato-geheimpapier-russland-ist-nato-kraeften-in-syrien-ueberlegen_id_5336051.html

Don’t answer I know what you read “Russia-insider” or similar article about it. Please point out where “NATO experts believe the Su-35 is superior” in that article from focus. Does he state what experts? There was some serious editorializing going on in the Russian version.

I remember reading it a few months back. So I just googled it to get a refresh. Skipped over the Sputnik and RT versions and clicked on the link below. The gist of what I am getting at here is, that the aircraft performed well. The su 35 is an argument for another day. And I think that guy got the su 34 mixed up with it. B/c the su 34 is something that nato doesn’t exactly have.

Why would be Indian order bigger than Iran or Algeria. ?remember India bought Su-30MKI at rock bottom prices at pre 2000 era prices. just look at how many attack choppers Irak quickly bought from Russia and compare with slow muddle procurement in India
I would put even Qatar there . They are willing to take risk of big investment in Russia

Well he’s right just by the numbers. Indian AF has hundreds of aircraft. But with sanctions lifted it will be interesting to see how much money Iran will want to spend.

i’m starting to really think it’s best for both parties, India left the Pak-fa/FGFA program.

There is more than meets the eye here though. It says something that China went ahead with the J 20 right after this Russia/India original contract for the FGFA idea was signed. There was probably talks going on between China and Russia for a deal like this too.

Then it will never happen !!

    Agree. This is ridiculous.

Sounds like they want to make an F 35 type 2nd tier jet out of the Pak Fa. Not a good idea.

But maybe they’d be open to the idea of building a new jet with SAAB and Russia. They should just counter-copy the FC 31 and produce it.

Even two operators of the same aircraft have different availability rates and can experience differnent problems. The F/A-18’s have had a brutal year operationally, does that make them junk? No, it makes them old, with a shrinking supply of spares.

That said, time to stop blaming India every time reports come out that the MKI or Mig-29K are not meeting availability, or India reports engine issues. They’ve operated Mirage 2000’s, Jaguars, and the like without these leaks hitting the Indian news about shoddy workmanship, engine, FBW issues. It’s not like they pamper the western types in their inventory then break out the duct tape to repair their Migs.

The war in Syria was a big test for Russian equipment. They’ve been at it for over a year. Sorties per day has surpassed anyone’s estimations. Where is all this defective equipment ? Where are all the burnt out engines ?

Sure, it must be their fault that their brand new jets broke as soon as they received them… keep telling yourself that.

Their Western aircraft BTW work just fine, which is why they keep seeking to buy more.

You know that western observers had a keen eye on Russian equipment performance in the Syria deployment right ? The humid and dusty conditions are bad for jet and crew. Here is their findings:

According to the information obtained by German Focus magazine, the Russian Aerospace Forces operations are much more effective than NATO air strikes, despite the Alliance’s numerical superiority.

The article written by Josef Hufelschulte published by Focus on March 5 refers to a classified NATO report, which informs that 40 Russian combat aircraft fly 75 sorties daily to deliver precision strikes against Islamic State targets.

NATO experts believe Russian SU-35 aircraft to be superior to anything the Alliance has in its inventory.

The paper emphasizes the fact that Russian crews are better trained. Russian military jets have, at times, been carrying out more sorties in a day in Syria than the US-led coalition has done in a month.

So.. where is all the seized up/defective equipment in Syria ?

(carrier ops was a disaster but that wasn’t a integral part of Syria ops)

Hmm, those Mig-29K availability rates are close to what France is getting with its Rafale these days.

Terrible indeed. Maybe India can sign on to a billion dollar support package like most “Western deals”, and then we can see available the plane is.

Places like India cut corners and skimp on maintenance and or go it alone. Who do they blame ? The manufacturer of course. Happens in a lot of industries.

The US deals with the exact opposite environment. Selling to Norway and Israel is not like selling to India and Uganda.

So $50 million each, only to have 2/3rds broken from the very start.

Kinda explains why they keep looking for Western designs…

This is the exact kind of BS that India is famous for. They probably cheaped out on the maintenance contract and then ran the jets into the dirt. Then after THEY wreck them, (from cheaping out and not listening) they come out and complain about quality.

Then they will go out and spend twice as much on western fighters and repeat the process.

But it sure makes for good trash talk. This is why it is sometimes better just not to make sales to certain customers.

They’re classic Su-30MK2, just like Vietnam, Uganda or Chinese Navy use.

No, there is no variety of configurations. There are just two.. KnAAZ-built Su-30MK2 (discontinued recently) and IAZ-built Su-30MKI, incl. russianized mod called Su-30SM. There is nothing else..

And you can’t modify an Su-27UB into an Su-30 as they are structurally different, don’t make things up.

How many different configurations/variations though, of the original su 27 family is there for export ? Including su 35’s and copies, kit planes that went to China and India ?
