97 MiG-31BMs delivered since 2007, from Sokol and the 514th ARZ. Sokol will deliver 22 planes this year, so number should break 100 soon.

are all of these just rebuilt airframes ? None are new ?

Lol, a temporary deployment on land is “not looking good”?

The drama of some of you re. the Kuznetsov is just too much. :highly_amused:

If the Kuznetzov was part of the active US carrier fleet, it would be the 3rd newest of them all.

I think they got a little greedy by deploying the carrier. Everything else is going so good. It was almost a distraction. Aleppo will be liberated any day now.

Yes, thats what the recent info suggests.

IMHO, the decision to make the returning 29K (probably with 30-45min fuel) to wait for the deck to be cleared was stupid. Who in their right sense could have correctly assessed the time required to complete the work on the arresting system..

They could have launched a tanker to help the incoming 29K and let both of them to land in Himiem airbase. But they risked to take the risk with time and also with the optical landing system. I’m saying it coz, AFAIK, the optical landing system on Kuz is optimised/calibrated for a 4-wire arresting system.

I will help you out with your confused state due to getting exposed to your exclusive “first hand info” on the events. Your backside info (underscored) is covered by your quote (bolded).

Nothing was officially confirmed IIRC, just rumors.

There was a communication failure if anything about this story is true. Nobody decided to circle the jet until it was out of fuel.

    it will be the french.
the french are an intelligent people. Their designs are only 2nd to the US. I can even admit that.
but since they stopped at 4th generation, China is now 2nd to the US in 5th gen.

Can’t say I agree with you. The PAK-FA is just crude in its design with nothing smooth or elegant about it, as with many Russian designs. Then again, beauty doesn’t have much impact on functionality. The PAK-FA bares much recemblance to the Flanker series in regards to the frontal hull design to the tail between the engines and the arrowhead layout of the whole design.

The YF-23 has in contrast a beautiful flow throughout the shapes of its exterior. Everything seems linked to one another and the whole symmetry is fantastic. The only detail about the YF-23 that I don’t like is the view from below, where it [similarly to the PAK-FA] has a rather box-like shape. The YF-23 brings forth names such as “Innovation”, “Stealth” and “Science-Fiction” decades ahead of the PAK-FA that really induces thoughts such as “Is that really stealthy though?” and “That’s the Russian answer to US fighters”.

Comparing the YF-23 with the PAK-FA is a little bit like comparing the Black Hawk to the Mi-8. They’re both transport helicopters, but one is rather sexy whilst the other one is not.

Even on F 16.net , most posters fully accept the Pak Fa as a legit counterpart to the Raptor.

The YF 23 did not get produced precisely for the reasons you like it. (too futuristic)

Yes the Pak Fa is 100% stealth design.

And no. The Pak Fa’s nose is straight. The Flankers cants down. The engines on the Pack Fa are canted down. The Flankers are straight. So there really is no comparison.

And I am not sure how you convince yourself that the word smooth cannot be attributed to the Pak Fa.

F-20 got to be in the running for the prettiest. When I was a kid drawing fighter planes based, of course, on Buck Rogers and Saturday morning cartoons I was unknowingly always drawing the F-20.

It just looks like the objective image of how a ‘fighter plane’ should look somehow!

The space shuttle was supposed to make space flight cheap, routine, and safe. It achieved none of those things, at great cost. (both financial and lives)

It is unquestionably a horrible failure.

A total failure. And now the only means to ISS is through Russia. Russia has by far the most private commercial rocket launch contracts.

And the US relies on Russia for the RD 180 engine in its Atlas 2 military rocket. In fact while the US dictates Russia sanction on the world, it unilaterally lifted one of the only sanctions it had against Russia.

Certainly a US carrier is more expensive, but then US carriers deploy around the world on a regular basis, without tugs. There really isn’t any comparison between how the USN operates its carriers and the Kuznetsov.

The Kuznetsov hasn’t been capable of deploying much, and yes, that means it is a failure. What would you call a piece of equipment so plagued by mechanical problems that it is unavailable the vast majority of the time?

Strawman time? If you want to attribute something to me, go find a quote.

Sorry I hurt your feelings, need a tissue?

You don’t seem to be aware that post Soviet Russia is a land power. They have minimal designs on blue water power projection. But it doesn’t surprise me to see ppl like you and the western media jumping to all the wrong conclusions about this.

Fair enough, it started with some moron posting on Norway thread about Kuznetsov TF using intimidation against Norway (insinuating Norway could do nothing about it) and traveled over here. Too much chest thumping on this forum as of late anyway. Those who point out every fault and technical glitch of:US, Russia, India, whomever, those who deny, deny, deny. A little reality check now and again can only be a good thing for this forum as of late.

Speaking of reality checks, here is Navy Ship USS Freedom in the San Diego Bay.

wow, omg, what happened to this thread. its all about russia vs china again.

The topic is the J 20. A Chinese 5th gen fighter with Russian engines. It is conceivable that there would be discussion about China and Russia here.

The only issue is posters who try and make it about said countries economies.

You both are hilarious. Posting fanpics based on speculations as evidence. LOL

I was confronted with a fan pic so I retorted with one.

The funniest part is, the pic he was retorting was the production blueprint.

you can see the yf-23’s ducts here

its quite curved but very short

    http://yf-23.net/Pics/Plans/YF-23%20cutaway.jpg

Honestly I think the Pak Fa shows more curve. And by the way, I could see the S ducts very well on the pics (production blueprint) that I already posted. It just doesn’t mean that the engine face is entirely covered.
