9th Pak-fa in flight programme, news which we have been waiting for. So pak-fa-59 must be flying. Shame we have not seen any pics of T-50-8. Two non flying prototypes. Hope this is true.

Although I question the legacy of the jet, I always had a soft side for the unique look of the F4 Phantom.

You choose a photo looking from a specific angle upward not from frontal aspect, so obviously YF-23 engine will look exposed , but from frontal the engine is covered pretty good. And as said before , the alleged better all aspect stealth of YF-23 is because the lack of tail fin and has nothing to do with intake , it may even have worse frontal RCS compare to YF-22
    http://yf-23.net/Pics/Plans/YF-23%20drawing%20side%20internal%201523.jpg

The claims made about the Pak Fa are all about choosing angles too.

I am not saying that the engine exposure is why the 23 has superior stealth. I am saying that the fact that the 23 shows just as much; if not more engine as the Pak Fa, should put to rest all claims about the so called non stealthness of the Pak Fa because of the engine fan exposure.

And TBH , YF-23 doesnt have more exposed engine fan than PAK-FA

If you don’t think so, then provide evidence that counters this.

No they have not been debunked. Also you need to separate CG and artwork from actual real things.
You posted an old drawing from portugal

this is the real thing. it is pretty straight

I will admit, the fuss that the Russiophobes made over the exposed fanblade on the Pak Fa and its non stealthy implications was a good propaganda coup.

But. How then does the YF 23 get better all around stealth than the Raptor with more engine fan exposed than the Pak Fa ?

Pak-fa is very important for the Russian industry because it allowed them to physically create features of a fifth generation fighter and experience its reality, benefits and limitations. There is much to learn from such an experience.

But we need to face realities too. its gdp is only slightly higher than Australia and growth is in the negatives, meaning it’ll become like Australia and maybe to Spain. It cannot afford the program. It may end up being like India and Tejas. It is a good experience and new knowledge gained. They need to save money now and get the su-35, and then use the knowledge of pak-fa to develop a full 5th generation fighter in the future when the economy is better. China is doing all it can to save the Russian economy. The J-31 is also an option for Russia to consider.

This is all a total fabrication.

How do you figure that Russian stock indexes have made new all time highs since the price of oil fell ?

Russia’s MICEX stock index rallied to all-time record highs today. This is likely very disconcerting for The White House as since the March 2014 lows when they issued the following statement: “If I were you, I wouldn’t invest in Russian equities right now,” Russian stocks are up 60% – tripling the 19% gains in the S&P off those lows…

And what kind of gall must someone have to actually say that Russia should consider the J 31 when Russia is providing the engines for China’s flagship J 20 ?

We all have various questions regarding the design of the T-50. I think however it is more important for Russia to show that it has the industrial stamina to complete this project first. Then when it reaches operational capability we can debate how good or bad it is.

Russia has the same unemployment rate as the US right now. Russia still has the 6th most foreign exchange reserves in the world. More than South Korea. Russia has no net debt.

Stop listening to the propaganda from politicians from broke western states about the Russian economy. Look at their record. Obama said to sell Russia at this date:

Unlike the Raptor, which is already discontinued, Russia is taking its time to build the Pak Fa for the long run. They are not cutting corners or making the same counter economic mistakes that sunk the Raptor.

no, they are very straight. what are you seeing is the intake flaring out. it is similar to bootleg jeans. it flares out on the bottom but it is still straight.

a curved duct looks like this. notice the difference?
    [IMG]http://i47.tinypic.codMG]

also note the plethora of areas in red that are not stealthy. framed canopy, circule rounded engines that are untreated and exposed metal like the Flanker, lots of non serrated edges. also the intake to engine is pretty straight

    [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/bV8NBzx.IMG]

Also because it is a very flat airplane, and the intake only has enough room for 2 pylons. It is likely the bay can only accommodate 2 air to air missiles at most. no bombs unless they are miniature diameter ones.

All of these claims have been wholly debunked. Re-read the thread from 5 pages ago and educate yourself.

no. the flag ship jet of the us is the f-35. it is their most expensive and important program. they dropped the tvc. the f-22 is a 30 year old design.
so we have 5 different leading aviation preferring NOT to use tvc. it had its day, and now it is gone.
Russia is sticking to it because it is part of their philosophy. they know they are at a strong disadvantage to western jets in radar range and missile reliability and range, so they are hoping to win the close in fight.

if the su-35 rumor is true, then expect to see China make a copy of its engine and improve upon it. no big deal.

The flagship jet is not the F 35. It is the Raptor.

There was no way to have VTOL and TVC on the F 35. So it doesn’t have it.

The leaders in the industry are the US and Russia.

can you link where J-20 show off agility ?

i think he’s talking about this latest video. Watch the jet go off in the distance and then just rocket up into the heavens and does a nifty move

    tvc is a bandaid solution. that’s why rafale, eurofighter, gripen, f-35, j-20, jf-17, j-10 don’t need it.

TVC simply enhances a fighter jet’s maneuverability. The jets you mentioned all have different reasons why they don’t have it. And it has nothing to do with solutions to other problems.

I think it is telling that the 2 countries with the most experience and expertise in the business both have TVC variants on their flagship jets. And Russia went the extra mile and went 3D.

Those video seem accelerated to give perception of agility.

If it had some indigenous engine that we knew nothing about then I wouldn’t be skeptical. But damn does it rocket up
