Isn’t the first flyable A350 being put together now?

Delayed at least one year..reason ? wing cracks.. sounds familiar.

At least Airbus managed to meet their original break-even forecast.

Really?? Most of Aerospace/Airline Analysts believe that it will never break even , the outgoing CEO Louis Gallois admitted that A380 remains the biggest headache in the history of the company.

The A380 was supposed to have been a $ 10bn project. Today, it’s over double that amount and rising .
A380 still needs more money ( wing cracks, engine problems, delivery delays ) and the last figure of 420 has already been revised for a third time to an undisclosed figure !

The future of the 747-8i doesn’t look good but at least they have developed a freighter version which has no direct competitor in the market.
    Smart Boeing.

If Airbus screws up with A-350 ( one year delayed already ) the way they screwed up with A380 ,Boeing might consider a wide body assembly plant in Europe !! The UK would be the best location in my opinion.

Ship 741: The market for A 380 has proved much much smaller than what Airbus had predicted. The comparison with 787 which sold 800 planes in 3-4 years is ridiculous. Even the ageing 767 family notched up 85% of the A380’s total sales during the same period. 10 years ago Airbus claimed the A380 would break even at 250 units and then this changed to 420 units and this breakeven figure is expected to rise further.

What a mess. It seems hard to believe that Emirates won’t be due compensation, but if that is what the contract says, then I suoppose it’s down to the lawyers.
It’s just as well for Airbus that the A380 has no direct competitors. If it did, I suppose future defections would be significant.

Emirates will get any compensation from Airbus and Tim Clark is not a fool . The very survival of the A380 project depends on Emirates.. If you take Emirates orders out of the equation, the A-380 program is COLLAPSED… A380 has indirect competitors and thats the reason why it doesn’t sell anymore. 10 years after its introduction it became clear ( of course the Airbus chief Salesman John Leahy would never accept the defeat) that this Aircraft has been built for a market that barely exists !!
There is only one aircraft in the world which has no direct competitor, its the 777-300ER which not only wiped out the A340-600,500 from the market,it also started taking market shares away from A380 !

I would expect so…but it might not be enough to be measured.
Especially since the major components for the USA line will be built in Europe.

Don’t be ridiculous.. Major components will obviously come from the US. This is the essence of this strategy .The US has by far the biggest and most efficient aerospace supplier industry in the world and Airbus will exploit the potential.

I reckon more than half of all components will be delivered directly from US suppliers to the plant in Alabama. In case of airliners opting for Pratt&Whitneys pure power engine, the US content could easily increase to 60-70%.

    Probably depends on slot availability.

IMO – I think the 320NEO will be a better plane by most useable measures than 737MAX – mostly due to the bigger engine.

However, limited delivery slots will force airlines to take the MAX (and maybe more importantly for the longer term future; the CSeries).

In the end ,737 MAX will beat the 320 NEO.. The reason for this is very simple actually.. People are interested in something which is completely new ! they are not interested in an improved or modified version of an old design.

Because of the same reason, the passenger version of 747-8 is doomed.
It will earn its money with freighter because it has no competitor in the market . When an airliner needs a big aircraft with 400+ passengers they will buy the A-380 because its a new creation, pure and simple.

The A330 was TOO BIG for the USAF. The USAF needed a large number of frames, for the same amount of money they could buy proportionally more 767s than A330’s. The 330 delivered more fuel per pound of fuel consumed, because it is bigger, the way that a bigger airplane has an advantage on low seat miles costs because of the the larger number of seats to spread the cost around on. IMHO, the big mistake the USAF made on the tanker decision was buying crap-tastic PW4000 engines. They bought the engine that had higher fuel consumption AND less reliability…..politics.

IMHO Airbus assembling in Alabama is a win-win for everyone, though I assume some politicians and trade unionists in Europe will have a little heartburn….as should be expected. But, hey, they’ve got to compete in a worldwide market for labor just like everyone else. I believe Boeing is slowly moving out of Washington state, it’ll take 50 years, but they began by moving the HQ to Chicago, the next step was building the factory in Charleston. The next big hurdle is increasing the production rate at CHS while maintaining quality. The Democrat unionists in Washington have had some very harsh words for the people in South Carolina.

What ?? PW 4000 is crap?? most idiotic statement I ever heard. Where the hell you come from ? …PW 4000 has by far the most advanced technology core engine of its class. Even GE has acknowledged this . Engine Alliance GP7200 is considered more advanced and more reliable and innovative than Rolls Royce Trent 900 because of PW4000 !!! USAF couldn’t make a better decision. You are a joke.

We need to leave the monkey model 21/23s aside as this is not the question we need to ask.. We are talking F-22/Typhoon/Rafale now, so let us seek historical counterparts.

Was the F-15 able to “completely outclass” fighters like Tornado ADV or Mirage 2000C? Was the F-15 so much forward in aicraft design if you count the later cancelled Mirage 4000 into equation? I personally doubt it although I do see certain advantages of the Eagle compared to the ADV (slotted array radar, airframe with more growth potential, better TWR…)

Mirage 2000 and Tornado ? no way, Mirage F-1 hopeless, only Mirage 4000 would give a decent tussle to F-15… It was a very very powerful and capable airframe..

the problem with Le Matin is that its a Swiss pro-French separatist newspaper, so naturally they are adverse to the germanic speakers.

I wouldn’t say separatist but Le Matin is certainly pro French and would favor the choice of the Rafale without any doubt .The problem in Switzerland is pretty much similar to the problem in Canada with Quebec . A French minority against a mighty German majority which actually rules the country in almost everything , Banking, Industry and even the capital city Bern is situated in German speaking part . The French part of Switzerland (Suisse Romand ) is more pro French than the German Swiss are pro German.

A huge Rafale order from Brazil ….I think Rafale’s chances of winning this one is ever greater than it was India since the other two contenders have virtually ZERO chance..
