Thanks. These two look like I can be kept quiet for a while. Whilst I can google around, I’ve no idea if a museum is reachable or worthy, so it’s good to have some sage advice.
50th anniversary of Shute’s death
As mentioned today in the Shute Twitter blog (named after his Percival Proctor “Item Willie” http://twitter.com/ItemWillie
Shutists around the world (today) mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of Nevil Shute, who died 12 Jan 1960 a week before his 61st birthday
What trade show btw? & where’s it at?
& if you go to Palmdale:
Visit the Lockheed shop at Plant 42/Skunkworks. It’s to the right just before the main gate in the same building as the credit union… across from the F104 & F16.
I’m here now. Thanks for all the ideas and comments …just what I hoped for.
The show I’m attending is NAMM – a music equipment trade show.
Well I got to Chino to http://www.yanksair.com and was glad of the lift by my friend who I’m staying with this week.
Definitely worth a visit and everyone there were so helpful. It was good to get the heads up about the museum via this great forum.
Walking out to the ‘graveyard’ of where aircraft are awaiting restoration was interesting. Had a full day after and am now looking forward to hitting the sack!
Well if you’re still around on Sunday afernoon show up at this place:
http://www.sagebrushcantina.com
Band starts at 3pm 🙂I’m off to Santa Monica in the morning to sort out Cottonmouth (the P51, not the Hawker), May do lunch at the Spitfire Grill 🙂
Lockheed shop:
Get to the 14 North & exit at Ave P/Rancho Vista. Hang a right & head East. First left after the RR tracks is Lockheed Way. You’l see the HUGE building (light blue with a stripe around the top) you can see it from bloody miles away as you come down from the mtns into Palmdale.
Cool. Will see nearer the time, thanks.

Hi, my colleagues and I are ‘Shutists’ and are active researchers in NSN’s history. You can find out a lot of answers to many of these posts in the Timeline section of http://www.nevilshute.org . If you haven’t already done so, you might like to register (it’s all free) for the e-newsletter. Also, there’s a discussion group at http://groups.google.com/group/nevil-shute-discussion that includes threads about identfying some of Shute’s fictional aircraft.
