I have attached the photo Pembrey 1943…
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the PM and for posting the photo. It’s been a while since I last logged on here, so it was a surprise to receive an e-mail via Key.
Your photo is a lot clearer than mine, but it has confirmed they are fields in the background. It could be a Defiant, but it’s difficult to tell.
Do you know exactly when your Uncle was at Pembrey? According to my Uncle’s service record (post #7) he moved there on 30/10/43. His next move was to 21 OTU Enstone on 4/1/44.

Thanks TJ

Not too sure how small they make them, or how much they cost, but we had one of these where I served my apprenticeship – it was used as a temporary storage area…. it’s still sat in the corner of the site, 30 years later!

No problem Steve, pleased to have helped.

Found it!
Elvington have an information board, normally displayed beneath their Halifax, which depicts the different squadron fin markings. I took a photo of it on my last visit, although the quality wasn’t very good. I’ll try and dig it out tonight and post it on here.
From Hull, Hell and Halifax An Illustrated History of No.4 Group, 1937-48 is an excellent reference book, although all the photographs are b&w.

Stunning! Love the first Tiger shot – great lighting. Hope the weather’s as good on the 16th.

Incidentally, I saw a Dakota with invasion stripes flying north over Braintree on Saturday afternoon, it was very low, could it be the same one.
It could be, but I think Aces High currently have their Dak in D-Day markings as well, so I’m not sure.
A Dakota was on the ground at Humberside (Kirmington) at around lunch time on Friday 18th July. Anyone know the identity pls?
Planemike…………
I guess this could have been the same one I saw yesterday – did it have invasion stripes?

Yesterday at North Coates Fly-in, between about 14:00 & 15:00Hrs, spotted a Dak with D-Day invasion stripes, flying up the River Humber. I’m guessing this was ‘Drag-Em-Oot’ but it didn’t return – are there any other Daks sporting invasion stripes? Anyone know where it was going?

We were only there for Sunday afternoon, and the photos pretty much cover what was there. There were a few more Group A’s, seen behind the Miles Gemini, and a couple of Microlights, but that’s about it. One of the resident Autogyros ventured out, putting on a decent show (didn’t get a photo of that) but conditions were not ideal with a blustery crosswind. The BBMF cancelled Saturday’s appearance because of strong crosswinds at Coningsby, so I think we went on the better day. Also spotted in the distance, going along the Humber, another Dak, with D-Day invasion stripes. I’m guessing this was ‘Drag-Em-Oot’ but it didn’t return, so I can’t confirm that – are there any other Daks sporting invasion stripes? Shame it didn’t do a flypast.

Chipmunk WP973 – What’s the story behind the British Airways colour scheme?
Cracking set of shots Paul. Like the Black & White conversions and that low-level F3 over XH558 is superb.
I really must get a DSLR!
