Is there no-one with an answer?
Not too sure what the current status is, but this website shows pics up until 2005 – http://airfieldarchaeology.fotopic.net/c707113.html
And here is a satellite image on flashearth.com – http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.504387&lon=-0.072007&z=15.2&r=0&src=msa
A few light industries operate from the old site, but I’ve not been on there for a while – I did hear that some of the original buildings have been demolished recently though.

Well remembered – I missed that anniversary date :(.
A part of his Mosquito is in the museum at RAF Scampton, which I visited recently – see thread http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=74081

Get Some In!
The first series of Get Some In! has just been released on DVD – available from Amazon.co.uk Am I alone in thinking this series is a classic?… there was no response from a previous post saying it was coming out! It’s not quite in the same league as Dad’s Army, but nevertheless still funny… maybe it’s my twisted sense of humour 😀

Spirit of Kent – Specific Photo Request
Chaps and Chapeses,
I wonder if any of you kind people out there can help. For my own personal use (screensaver), I would like a high res. image (1280 x 1024 px) of the Spirit of Kent from a specific angle. Similar to the shot below, but taken of TA805’s port side, showing the nose art. Would anybody have such a shot already, that they would be willing to share with me?

Thanks in advance,
Dean.
If they’re filming in Scampton, this place will do well!

I CAN reccomend it 😀
Chris
I’ll second that :D. We finished off our visit to RAF Scampton, a couple of weeks ago, with a pint of Thwaites ‘Lancaster Bomber’ in this excellent hostelry – a must see place for all enthusiasts.
So sad to hear this news. I didn’t know Brian personally but knew who he was, and from the posts on here he sounded like a really great guy. I never made it to Breighton this year, but I will always remember last years summer scorcher. Brian gave a superb display in the Hurricane against the perfect backdrop of a clear blue sky; and a hint to his character was shown by him waving his clenched fist in victory, after the mock WWI dogfight were he was flying the DR-1 replica… Baron Von Brown I think the commentator called him… great memories.
My deepest sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues at Breighton.
Blue skies Brian.

Was any of the Dambuster’s filmed at Scampton??? I though it was filmed just up the road at Hemswell.
Hemswell and Scampton – we were told about the final scene yesterday.

Many thanks for your replies, especially Paul for his very comprehensive post. Paul, you’ve pretty much affirmed my thoughts on the 8Mpx V’s 10Mpx argument, and the dust cleaning.
I’m leaning towards the 30D, but I think, as vulcan558 says, it’s a case of getting my mits on them to see how they feel. At the end of the day it looks like it will come down to handling preferences rather than a comparison of specs.
Thanks to you all again,
Cheers,
Dean.
Having done a spot of ‘Googling’ after my post, it would seem that this debate has been going on for some time! I’m still no nearer to reaching a conclusion though!

I use a Canon EOS20D and EF100-400mm lens ARAman
OK on the 20D. I’ve been thinking of upgrading to a DSLR for some time, and have been weighing up the pros and cons of each make and model. My ‘film’ SLR kit is all Canon – A1 & AE-1 Program, so I’m a bit of a fan anyway, and I think that is probably the way I will go. I’d love the full frame 5D but my budget wont stretch that far, so I’ve been looking at the EOS 400D, although for a little extra I could get the magnesium bodied 30D… can’t make up my mind… and that’s before I start considering lenses!
Have you been happy with the 20D?
Dean.
Stunning shots ARAman… what camera and lens do you use?

While I remember, the manager fancies getting an F104 starfighter – any ideas? (Swap / deal / purchase)
These people have one.

No idea if they’d be open to offers though, but as their motto says… “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”.
I keep meaning to pay this place a visit; it’s only 20 minutes down the road.

Series 1 DVD to be released on September 10th
Just found this thread whilst Googling ‘Get Some In!’.
At long last it is going to be released on DVD. I’ve not seen it since it was originally shown in the 70’s – an absolute classic!
I never saw the repeats on UK Gold and at one time you could get hooky copies off fleaBay, but the general consensus, reading the seller’s feedback, said the quality was bad, so I didn’t bother.
I just hope it’s as funny as I remember it, and they quickly follow up with series 2 to 5 – I’ve been looking forward to watching this again for years :D.
Go to this website and click on Multimedia for the intro:-

Jakey Smith: “Smiff”

Jakey Smith: “Free!”
Welcome to the forum ‘theflyingyears’.
I’m sure somebody on here will be able to help, but you might find the forum below a good place to post your query.
