These were all taken at a North Coates fly-in, in 1999:- G-SCUB, G-BKVM ‘Spirit of Goxhill’ & G-PDOG (which I guess fits in the ‘thingz’ category). And Breighton’s Aeronca, taken earlier this year.

Never seen that footage before… Incredible!

Talking of rolling big deltas, IIRC, didn’t they roll Concorde during it trials? I seem to remember an interview with Trubshaw (?). He rolled it one way, then turned to his fellow pilot and said something like “I’ve wound it up, now it’s your turn to unwind it” !!! It’s a shame that wasn’t caught on camera!

Dean – sounds like you’ve already fallen under the Breighton spell! Join the Club and get involved – you’ll love it!

Any pictures of your Uncle at Breighton?

Hmmm… I’ll have to have a think about that. I subscribe to that many things – I’d be a rich man if I cancelled them all ;).

Unfortunately I only have one photograph of him and it’s not at Breighton – see http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63864 there’s a copy of his postings on that thread as well; his last being Breighton. Apart from what’s in the clubhouse, do you have any other memorabilia of 78 Sqdn?

… not ALL real aeroplanes have Merlins up front you know!

davski – I couldn’t agree more ;), but Merlins do have a certain cachet don’t they, and not many other piston engines manage to raise the hairs on the back of my neck! Like you say, things move on, I’m just sorry I hadn’t visited Breighton earlier to savour them a bit longer… ah well, C’est la vie! Will Tony be following the pre-war theme with Suzy’s replacement, when he sells her? I’m certainly looking forward to next season… now I know what I’ve been missing! My late uncle flew from here with 78 Sqdn., so it seems a special place because of that, as well. Keep up the good work 🙂 .

Ahh, that’s where it’s gone! I remember seeing this put on a display at OW a few years back. For some reason I always thought it was Nick Mason’s… (right group though!) – Love that colour scheme.

At Duxford on the 21st Oct 06

    Nice 🙂

Apparently the new owner is having a hangar built at Kissimmee at the moment. Now what to put in it…………? And the Buchon is anticipated at next year’s ‘Gathering of Mustangs and Legends’ in Ohio.

Hmmm… that doesn’t bode very well ! 🙁 … For UK fans that is.

I counted more than 3 merlins at the summer bash this year….

There certainly were more than three, and it was especially nice to see MH434… but only the Hurricane, Buchon & Mustang are/were resident. I was trying to imply that Breighton’s only a short drive away, and with them being resident, I could go and see them at any time. I wrote it quickly at work, so maybe it doesn’t scan very well… Incidentally, will Janie be there next year? I look forward to seeing her again.

That’s disappointing! I’d been meaning to go to Breighton for years (never did see Taff’s pink Spit.) so I made the effort this year and went to the summer bash – Blimey it was hot! And what a show! The atmosphere and intimacy of this place is just excellent and the flying display was a pure delight… a tonic to Waddington, which we’d attended two weeks previously! Only an hours drive away, with three resident, Merlin engined, fighters – Great! Having been bitten by the Breighton bug I was looking forward to my next visit, so I was sad to see the Hurricane and Buchon depart… and now Suzy’s going! :(. I shall return, as it’s a first-rate place and a great collection, but the biggest attraction for me was the Hurricane, Buchon and Mustang. If they’re still over here, and it can be arranged, it would be nice to see them return for next years summer do.

I’ve had this shot as my desktop wallpaper since the summer – I never tire of looking at it.

Does ANYONE have a clue about #82 right? The suspense is killing me! FF

An expansion scheme airfield first used by Blenheims. Actually, I’ve just checked back and it was identified in post #87.

In that case I’d take a guess at Conningsby.

Dean – Post 321: Kirmington (Humberside Int.)?

Mike & Chris – Chris is correct, it’s Kirmington (now know as Humberside Airport). The shot was taken from the footpath at the southern end of the main runway (marked with an X on this pic); which was extended sometime in the 90’s. Shame they don’t have the airshows there any more.

DeanK – did you receive my e-mail regarding the Kelstern photo?

Chris, yes, received you’re mail OK – thanks for that. Having problems with my e-mail now, so not been able to reply.

Mike – further north than Boscombe; it was a bomber base during the war.

Post #317 – is that Wratting Common? This one’s probably easy, but it’s taken from a slightly different angle to the rest!

Dean, you know where to find the piccy of the ramp at Beaumaris!

Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey – yes, it was a good one that! – http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1015218&postcount=63
I wondered if you’d post that one on here ;).
