    Big Bad Bonnie

Big Bad Bonnie’s at Chino with Dave Tallichet’s collection isn’t it?

( and I’ve just checked with Wikipedia which agrees!)

    Phantom Formation

Air Britain News describes the Phantom formation as being from Watttisham for the Queen’s Birthday Fly-Past, ” due over Buckingham Palace at 1300 hours, then on to Duxford, Wyton, displayed at Coltishall and back [at Wattisham] in time for tea.” (they obviously didn’t know about them visiting Coningsby!)

Phantoms in the formation are listed as:

    56 Sqdn: XT903/X, XV422/T, VX424/I, XV460/R, XV467/F, XV470/BD, XV473/N, XV494/A

    74 Sqdn: XV423/Y, XV433/E, XV465/S, XV469/N, XV474/T, XV487/G, XV497/W, XV499/I

    plus 5 airborne spares: XV415/E, XV468/H, XV494/O, XT892/J, XT896/V

Flying participants in the Coningsby Open Day are listed as:
    Catalina G-BLSC, Harrier GR5 ZD401/AA, Harrier GR7 ZD432/N, Hawk T1 XX230, Hawk T1 XX281, Phantom FGR2 XT914/Z, Phantom FGR2 XV393/Q, Tornado F3 ZE339, Provost WW397, Bulldog XX713, Jaguar GR1A XX965

    IAT 1985

    I should have expanded:

The photo shows 4 aircraft with the same tail badges and then two with a different badge. The Fairford 1985 attendance log lists 5 starfighters from one unit, two of which match with the front two in this photo. The log shows four of the five being on the North side and the other South. Additionally there are 5 other German Starfighters shown as present including three from the German Navy display team.

This photo shows 4 from one unit including the identifiable ones from above:
    http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1199378/

This one shows a static line-up from the opposite end:
    http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1199558/

    Looks about right.

Definitely nothing comparable in the lists I have from Greenham 1983

    Starfighters

I think it’s Fairford in 1985. The attendees list shows 5 German Air Force Starfighters from the same squadron including 26+37 and 25+18

Huh, I’ve always had it in my head that 614 was present as static, ( I don’t think it had it’s permit to fly, yet) but I’m probably misremembering.

Maybe “AR654”? – which was Mk VIII G-BKMI’s identity at the time.

Duxford 2000 Battle Of Britain Display

20 flying each day according to Flypast and 22 present in total. I think your list is missing PL983, SM832, MK912 for the attendees.

MK912 was static only. According to the show report MK356 flew Saturday only and MK732 only on Sunday.

All made complicated by the fake Pearl Harbor codes on several aircraft.

AR213 is definitely not listed as present and I can’t recall any sign of AR614 flying while it was in the UK.

Spitfire trio was 1989 as was P-38 Miss Behavin’ and also Doug Arnold’s F4U-5 N179PT

1990 had Sunderland on Saturday only. Here are the two Buchons:

    Biggin Hill 1990

I remember the Sunderlan display now – and Tony Bianchi’s display in AR213 was superb – but how can BM597 hav ebeen there – it would have been at Audley End at that time (dismantled) and did not fly until 1997. Also, I’m sure Buchon D-FEHD was not there either (we would have been looking after it as we had the previous weekend) – its sole appearance was at Boscombe for IAT.

Have to agree about BM597 – AB got that wrong. The full entry is BM597/PR-O/G-MKVB, Would MH434, which is suspiciously missing, have been PR-O at the time or have they duplicated AR213 which was PR-D?? I’ll look at more pics later.

I’ve got photos of D-FEHD as 15+< so that must be a definite yes

I’m not sure Tony – I do not recall seeing the F7-F there that year (or the Corsair for that matter) and I would certainly have remembered the former….

I’ve checked some more pictures and I’m 100% sure that all the aircraft in pictures 12-17 were at Biggin in 1990. Can’t be 100% about #11 because it could be 1 of several but for sure one or more Dakotas in those colours were there. Although digitised pictures could conceivably have got mixed up on the computer I’ve just checked some original slides and they certainly wouldn’t have the wrong year written on them. Independently the Air Britain report does say that both the Tigercat and Corsair (and others) were there.

The AB list is too long to type in but here’s an abbreviated selection of the more interesting aircraft (apologies for any transcription errors):

    A-10A: 80-205, 80-271
    Austers: TW536, WZ662, G-AHAL, XR244
    Avenger: N3966A
    Beaver: XP820
    Beechcraft Duchess: G-OBLC (mis-typed in magazine – should be G-OLBC ??)
    Buccaneer: XN972 nose, XT273
    Buchon: G-HUNN, D-FEHD
    Canberra: WH664
    Corsair: NX1337A
    Dakota: G-ANAF, PH-DDA
    DH Dragon: EI-ABI
    Harrier: ZD346, ZD348
    Hawk: XX195
    Hercules: XV291
    Hurricane: XR-T
    Jet Provost: XW359, XN637
    Lancaster: PA474
    Gemini: G-AKKB
    Messenger: RG333
    Pembroke: WV740
    Piper PA-18: G-BROZ
    Pitts: G-BIRD, G-IIIT, G-IIII
    Scout: XT646
    Sea Fury: WG655
    Sioux: XT131
    Skeeter: XL814
    Spitfire: TB382 (as X4277), AR213, BM597, ML417, ML407, PT462, PS915
    Stinson L-5: D-EONH
    Swordfish: LS326

    Vampire: WZ507
    Venom: WR410, WE402

And, because this list is for the Sunday, they missed the Sunderland!!

I’d vote for the second batch being 1990 too.

In this case the Lynx would be ZD279.

On Saturday the Air Atlantique DC-3 was G-AMRA. Air Britain published a list for the Sunday and show G-ANAF as being present.

A lot of those aircraft were regular attendees and I haven’t thoroughly checked other years but my photo of the Lynx from 1990 looks in an identical spot to picture 14.

    Hercules Biggin Hill 1990

    Of the pictures above I have the following;

3 – Hercules possibly XV291, can anyone confirm?

Yes – the Air Britain report has the Hercules as XV291

Actually I think it was the year before with a single day show in 1993.

Yep – sorry, I missed that one – I only checked the July shows.

3-4 July 1993 was the Classic Fighter Air Show but the May show (3rd May) was the Flying Legends Air Display
