Here’s a couple of pictures of the L-4 with the replica gear.
The owner had always wanted to do something like this with his aircraft but couldn’t get any details of the equipment – until he learnt that Mr Brodie only lived a few miles away.

Fighter Pilot?
Broadcast about 1981 – I can’t remember the channel.
Included a student who looked exactly like a fighter pilot – handlebar moustache and driving a sports car.

Vigna Di Valle
It’s not too bad by public transport from Rome.
I went by train from Rome Ostiense to Vigna di Valle then it’s about a 30+ minute walk (or 45 minutes uphill on the way back). The stopping trains are hourly from Rome (5 euros return).
I don’t think I picked quite the best walking route which was back parallel to the railway along the main road towards Rome for about a kilometer then left across a railway crossing and then pretty much straight along the same road – after a while it drops down a hill towards the lake, then there’s a sharply angled junction at which you fork left (signposted to the museum) then it’s a few hundred metres further. I think there’s another road from the station which doesn’t involve walking in amongst the traffic!
I gather the nearest public transport is a bus stop about 1km from the museum – near the military entrance to the base for the bus running between Bracciano and Anguillara which are both on the same railway line from Rome as Vigna di Valle

A couple of extra points FWIW:
1. The 747 closes during lunchtime – I think this is a pretty good presentation and well worth going through – much more interesting than their Concorde set-up.
2. The ‘engine room’ appears to be closed – it was certainly not accessible the other week and the sign on the door suggested this was a permanent state ‘for reasons of enhanced security’.

Am planning a two day trip in mid August to France
Sat – fly to Orly, by train to La Ferte-Alais, by train to le Bourget for hotel.
Sun – Musee de L’Air and possibly train to Musee des Art et Metier, train back to Orly for evening flight home. One specific question at moment (although other hints/tips welcome) if anyone can answer:
In Bob Ogden’s book the Musee de L’Air is down as closing on Sat/Sun from 12.00 to 14.00 (long lunch hour!) – is this still the case? If so may try a dash to Art et metier and back in those two hours.Roger Smith.
Non – it’s open all day – I was there last Sunday.

Hi, thanks for sharing your pictures.
Do you know if the P-40 is still there. I have seen a picture of one on a pole, reportedly from March Field. From the picture its a P-40F but I suspect a replica.
Cheers,
Mark
No – it is no longer there
Yes – it was a replica

Spanish Brisfit
Hi all.
The Spanish machine would be this one. I have a vague recollection it is a reproduction with some original parts; certainly seems to have an engine, but the radiator louvres look fixed to me. The Museo del Aire guide has a photo, but my Spanish isn’t good enough to disentangle if it’s original or not.
FiltonF – e-mail me if you’d like copies for the website.
Cheers
FWIW the caption by the aircraft says (in English) “The replica on display was built by Barcelona-based SUMAER in 1994” There’s no suggestion of original parts in either the Spanish or English text.
