Demonstrators and in-development aircraft are not allowed to fly in any air-show. Only demonstrators of the home-country are allowed, because its own plots are involved in testing. So Tejas has performed in the last 3 Aero-India shows.

You do know that L-15 flew at dubai and it was still doing flight tests?

This was posted on CDF recently. Allegedly, FC-1 flew with WS-13 if this is to be believed.

Is there a ring missing between the engine and body?

Thats a good observation. But look at other pics. It seems the upper side of the fuesalage cavity has a sort of gap between it and where nozzle starts.

Thats an awesome picture (wish it was a little more higher resolution and without center watermark).

Do you guys know what the serial number stands for?
    KH-T 2009
i guess T is for Trainer and 2009 is for the year it was built. Will this be inducted in the operational service with same number?

The gray scheme on LCA really makes it look better. Perhaps a little lighter would be even better.

Also, i have asked before about this in past, does anyone have specs for twin seater?

Then health problems intervened and I haven’t worked for several years and am largely viewed as unemployable now, at the age of 41. I suppose what I’m trying to say is to go for your ambitions while you can, the chance may slip away sooner than you think.

My ambitions now are smaller, but still significant to me. This week’s is to walk around Sainsbury’s without falling over.

Comet, what do you intend to do now?

A brave person like yourself shouldnt have an avatar that reads coward 🙂
    That was very moving.

Rahul, Im not sure about this. PAF site does not have much info. about this, and I haven’t come across anything specific (written recently) in public domain. But I will keep an eye and will let you know if I come across something.

The link from PakDef site does describe the path.

After OCU it is F-7 and A-5 and after 3 or so years on those types it is Mirage or F-16

so since the FT-5 is mostly obsolete and so is the FT-6, the PAF must be on the lookout for a supersonic trainer once they retire, right ? are they looking at the JJ-9 (FTC-2000) or the Hongdu L-15 ?

FT-5 is being replaced mostly by K-8. FT-6 is already gone for some time now. It was replaced by FT-7.

I have no official link or statement to answer your last question but this is what i think. There are three options for meeting AJT/LIFT needs. It could be

    1) JJ-9 (if they stay very conservative)
    2) L-15 (Depends on how soon it’s problems are solved and it is inducted in PLAAF)
    2) Twin seater JF-17. The reason i am mentioning this is because in one of the IDEAS it was indicated that Pakistan does want to pursue this option for industrial interests it has in project. However there has been a long silence since then and it seems most of the effort is going towards the single seater at this time.

so all PAF pilots fly the F-7 solo before moving on to other operational fighter types ? is there any one good article that explains the training for fast jet stream in the PAF ?

Lets not leave the venerable FT-5 out of the confusion party here 🙂

    http://www.pakdef.info/pakmilitary/airforce/articles/paftraining.html
NOte:This article is old from the time when F-6 was still serving and FT-6 was used for OCU. FT-7s replaced FT-6s in same role.

    so basically
Basic Trainer -> FCU -> OCU
    Tweety -> FT-5 -> FT-7

K-8 i believe is serving the purpose of basic as well as FCU and replacing Tweety/FT-5 mix mostly.

There was a good article in AFM which is probably outthere somewhere on the net in the form of scanned images that lists everything in detail. Can’t seem to find it.

not really. if it was I wouldn’t have been able to participate in some very fruitful discussions with one pakistani poster who adds real value, vikasrehman.

I suppose you are simply ‘pre-supposing’ my (non-existent) bias, based on my ethnic origins, without evidence. some would call that discrimination.

It has got a lot to do with how vikas chooses to ignore utter tosh and flame baits dished out by you and others that he is able to have some “fruitful” discussion. I think he is special, for everyone else it is a little hard to not get sick of usual sarcasm/abuse and respond in same coin after a while. But like Arthur said you wouldn’t be able to understand it at all 🙂

It is really a shame though since i do think some of you(ankush,Nick and you) do add a lot of interesting information specially regarding Indian armed forces(not patronizing here either). Alas international politics is a b!tch!

A question, if the “stealth” DSI diffuser supersonic inlet J-10 is named J-10B… whose designation have the two seat version of the J-10A?

    Thanks in advance.

    J-10-S .

How does it compare to the R 77 ? The Su 30 MKI has a better radar than the Block 50/52+ and has a better Jammer, which would mean that any marginal advantage the C5 has over R 77 will be nullified as the F 16 will have to be well within the R 77s range to try a successful BVR kill using the C5.

I am not sure about R-77 but AIM-120 does have home on jam capability which can make jamming risky business for the adversary aircraft.

To be honest with you i am not a big fan of discussing specific military technologies as zero sum capabilities. These technologies all have certain optimum parameters in which they work well and they also have draw backs which can be used against them. In the end it all comes down to tactics that will be employed by the airforces that matter.
