    TBO

I thought the AL-31 was the equal to western engines. This is a quote from http://www.sukhoi.org/files/su_news_29-08-07_eng.pdf

    “Compared to the current AL-31F,
the new engine’s service life is to surge by
2–2.7 times, with the time between overhauls
increasing from 500 hours to 1,000 hours,
time before first overhaul standing at 1,500
hours and assigned life spiking from 1,500
    hours to 4,000 hours.”

I have to admit that getting info off of Wikipedia is dangerous. I can’t find anyone who knows what the difference is between “French and “standard”. I’ve never heard of these two terms used in this way…

Some what off the question….So what are the specs of the AL-31? What does it weigh?

Ok, deeply confused. Which Su-27/30/35’s have canards and which don’t and why?

Oh please…I’ll be happy if it just has more passenger room than the current crop of regional jet “tuna cans”. I hope it turns out to be a giant success.

I think it was when Xerxes pissed off Leonidas. They then hid the real motive in ancient Aztec pyramids and only now is it all coming to light. It’s definately connected to Roswell, the Lusitania and whoever shot JR.

Please add the faked moon landing, the Roswell cover up, the Kennedy assassination and hurricane Katrina relief plot to your list. Somehow, they too have been used in some nefarious plot by the super competent U.S. government. They are able to organize and keep silent hundreds, if not thousands of people to fool the entire world!! Fool everyone except for a few incredibly insightful lone heroes on the Internet that can see through it all. That they are not able to silence these great beacons of light gives us all hope that even these super giant brains cannot think of everything! I just wish the incredible continuing genius behind this “Dr Evil” of a government could stop getting caught in men’s room sex stings. Your ignorance and stupidity is beyond all reason.

ith all the “noise” made about the F-14’s Phoenix missiles and fire control system, you’d think the Russians would enjoy having some of that to play with. I suppose it may have been a different story if they had been f-14D’s with GE F110’s. The old TF30’s, even the US Navy didn’t want to look at.

Hey! I earned that name! Anyway, why would this be so far fetched? I have read several stories regarding Soviet offers to re-engine F-14’s. Are those not accurate? If that was the case, wouldn’t it make sense they would need to have examined them…closely?

Also, why are we so sure there were no F-14’s in Russian hands?

It’s a pity the photos were fakes…red star didn’t look too bad. Ok, so it was a little off center.

    canards

Surely that is one of the most beautiful jet aircraft I’ve ever seen.

    Why doesn’t it have canards?

    Maybe more modern in better

I had forgotten about the L159B. That is quite an aircraft. It look as though it provides the best of East and West. Rugged as well as reliable and more importantly…maintainable.

It would seem you can have performance or service life….both are a long, long journey…

GE has developed plans for further performance increases, should customers need them. GE defined three growth steps that could increase F110 thrust to more than 40,000 pounds (178 kilo- Newtons ). The first step would deliver a 15 to 20 percent thrust increase to about 33,000 to 35,000 pounds (156 kilo- Newtons ). Engine ratings will depend on customer requirements. As an alternative, this step could provide a 40 percent increase in engine parts life at current thrust levels.

Like I said…I failed to understand it because I don’t swallow crap as faith. I just showed what you said to a GE engineer at the Evendale Ohio plant (it’s 14 miles from me) where they make the F110….He laughed till he started to turn blue. His explanation of what TBO is, Russian and American is very, very different from yours. Which is better…lying about reality surely doesn’t better.
