Aaah ok, thanks very much! Any other ways of doing it? the reason I ask is because I wondered if the maker produced anything to mount them?

    Thanks again Smirky!

Thanks Rocketeer, I agree, they are pretty common, looks easy enough to make one up.

One final thing that puzzles me (I am sure it is obvious, but this simple male needs clarification!) is mounting the dimmer switches so that just the on-off knob pokes out the inst panel hole? I understand if they are mounted on a flat base, that’s easy. But is there a spacer part that mounts behind the panel to the mount points on the dimmer switch?? Does that make sense what I am saying? I have gone through all my drawings but nothing is showing me….must be one of my missing ones of course!

    Cheers

Thanks James, yes I think you might be right. I think that will be the best way to go.

I will get a hold of Peter Stoddart who looks after the Auster drawings and see if he has the drawing etc.

Thanks anyway and appreciate you taking the time to reply

Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying this thread!

Its great to see people rolling up their sleeves and getting on with it….these planes cant look after themselves. I know how much work goes into stuff like this that rarely gets seen and appreciated. It is great to see such dedication, well done team!

I am sure there are a lot of people out there feeling the same. I know how much work is in an Auster rebuild, I can only imagine the work to preserve and maintain a Meatbox!

    Cheers

    Hi John

Well, the Auster has come a long way since you saw her. I have tracked down a lot of her history and prev pilots and engineers now. Progress is of course visually taking a long time but there is always a lot happening. I am going to a lot of pains to have her in her factory original T.7 configuration which is challenging to say the least, but I am getting there. I have set up a facebook page for her if you are interested on following along with her progress. My engineers reckon I will have to fly her in my socks as she is looking too pretty…Lol. Anyway here is the link if you (or anyone else for that matter) is interested. https://www.facebook.com/Austerwe552/

I am now the NZ rep for the IAC which is a lot of fun and that can keep me quite busy from time to time now.

Yes John, I pop up on BM and LSP from time to time, but dont get a lot of modelling done anymore unfortunately. I will see what I might have, but I mostly have drawings related to the AOP6/T.7. Funny thing I learnt that the 6&7 has slightly more dihedral than earlier Austers with the struts being about 1/2inch longer.

Glad to hear you are well and dont forget to look me up again if you are over

    Cheers

Huge shout out to Mark Miller for helping me out with a NOS Graviner fire extinguisher mount for free! Flew to NZ and personally delivered it! Well, he was on his way to Wanaka for the Airshow….

What a great community, so nice to see people helping each other out with their projects, thanks guys, and I look forward to returning a favor in return to a forumite!

Have these pics. of spares for swaps, etc. PM me if any interest and i can amplify further details and pics.

Mainly stuff on left of table is Sea- Hawk New and used spares.(except for Control Unit Type S–8B/2015 and 927–10l/16192 and Avon Engine idling Adj Tool (NEW ) The small pulleys are 1-3/8″ Dia and OK. On chair are Beaufort passenger Immersion Suit Mk 1 holder (Empty) and NBC Resirator Transit Haversack.

    Thanks,

Now THIS is a great post! Thanks Bill.

How about showing us some tables of ‘stuff’ you all have? I really enjoyed rummaging through what you had on my computer…Lol. A lot of us guys who dont live in the UK never get an opportunity to see what you guys have on your ‘Aerojumble stalls’. That really opens your market to us guys overseas looking for bits. Who knows, maybe you have been taking stuff to shows year after year and not moving much? Ebay is one of the few places I find items for my rebuild when there must be a LOT of stuff out there you guys are trying to move?

    Just an idea?

Oh and I am looking for a Graviner extinguisher mount -108 (as it now turns out) in excellent condition. There is one for sale on line at a well known parts place but it is a little rich for my tastes considering what they seem to go for. Not complaining, but just still looking.

    Cheers

Hi Tony, thanks mate! Oh no I cant believe I missed that one on ebay, that is a -106 that I am looking for. The others are -105’s and 8’s. I will hold out for a -106 as I have gone to so much effort to get everything accurate I will just keep looking. Thanks for the links, I will just have to be more vigilant on ebay next time!

Here is where I am at with my rebuild and so I would like a nice tidy mount if possible, not one that needs panelbeating….I know I am being picky aren’t I!

    Hi Guys

Very sorry for the late reply. I appreciate all the feedback and comments. I am really having no joy with this A27N/106 mounting. On another thread here they were used in Vampires and Gannets (I think).

Powerandpassion, I like your post, looks like the one used on the firewall of Mosquitoes as well.

Flame switches also have me scratching my head. Were they all pretty much the same in the 50’s??

Thanks guys and sorry for all the questions. But I really need to find one of these mounts so I can finish off my front floorboards

    Cheers and thanks again
