Well I for one think this project is a cracker. Outside of RAFM very little survives in one place. Dave, I loved your article in CW, it was my favourite in that issue. Well done, very informative and interesting, many eyes are watching, keep up the hard work!!! Projects like this are a true labour of love, thank goodness we have people like this around the world. Without them stuff like this wouldn’t be here for us to debate over.
As for the Spit 12,(sorry for the thread drift) bring it on! That is an awesome project and an important gap in the Spitfire history that needs filling!
Now I must get back to working on my humble little Auster!!

Think you will find that our Roobarb has a hand in that sort of thing!
Well he has some talent alright! He can take a holiday to New Zealand anytime and I will have a spray gun ready for him to paint my Auster T7….oh, once the fabric is back on!!
As regards the above post, I personally don’t have a problem them fitting that stuff back in the Mustang. In my mind it will be more complete, and who knows, maybe one day in the future (50 years time) she may be brought back down to be displayed differently. Then the guys will be grateful this stuff is in there and wont be as difficult to obtain. Better complete than a shell in my mind…..
Without a doubt this is my favourite thread here, thanks for taking the time to keep us colonials updated on the goings on there.

Thanks for these latest posts, much appreciated.
One thing that really strikes me lately is that whoever is painting these planes lately is doing an amazing job. There is just something ‘right’ about the finish of this Blenheim as is the same recently of the Mark 1 Spitfires…..great stuff. It really adds an air of time on them if that makes sense.

Hi guys
Sorry to drag up an old Auster thread. But I was wondering if anyone out there has come across any of these Amber screens for an Auster AOP-6 or T7??
The parts above seem to me to be AOP-9 as they part numbers don’t match my numbers for AOP-6/T7. I am rebuilding T7 WE552 (ex RHKAAF) to stock military configuration as she has never been civilianised and carries the remains of the Night simulation brackets. There is also a bag to stow the screens and another to stow the goggles. ANY help at all to make this rebuild to fly more authentic would be hugely appreciated.
The part number ranges I have is in the ‘H’ range, like HC 1935-4 etc, there are also part number refs for ‘HB’ & ‘HD’ series.
Maybe you have some of these old screens kicking about your shed or hangar or know someone who has. If so I would love to hear from you. Even if it is to borrow to copy and return. I would pay for all costs to do this.
So maybe someone out there can help an old Auster T7 out……..
Cheers guys

That is a stunning Venom, is it an ex Swiss machine? The reason I ask is that if it is the std nose looks great back on her. I believe the guys operating the new one here in NZ decided not to change the nose as it was a very big job….not just as easy as bolting a ’rounded’ one on apparently. Not that I am complaining, its still great to see her flying here!
Thanks for the pics

Brilliant idea for a thread, and even better I see there is an ex HK Bulldog flying there….great to see!
Thanks

Thanks Tony, really appreciate your reply. I guess it is the nature of the beast…sad but true.
By the way, love the ADC collection and what is being done. Would love to see it one day if I ever can slow my own spending down on my T7 rebuild to afford to come over. Great job!

Normally I don’t speak up on such things, but this just doesn’t seem right to me.
I was surprised at how remarkable this engine is and how it survived so well. Now I know that there are probably hundreds of these engines all over the UK, but how amazing would it have been to bring that engine here to New Zealand and display it at the RNZAF Museum with Al Deere’s other memorabilia. Also Brendon Deere has a spitfire IX rebuilt and painted in Al’s markings in remembrance of him, how amazing would it have been to have it displayed in his hangar to tell the story of this well admired and loved pilot and man?
I simply don’t get it, and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing as I went through the photo’s……but there you go, who am I to say.

Great photos guys, thank you. I especially love those 3 of the Harvard, Bearcat and Wildcat starting up…….almost as nice as those 2 Austers!

Its an Auster cowl as fitted to Mk6 & 7’s. The lower piece on the port side of the fishtail exhaust….nice find!
Hi there, I still have a lot of Auster parts as does my mate Baz here in New Zealand. I even have parts in the UK (some are even J1) that I need to offload which are not applicable to my T7 rebuild.
PM me if you need anything

Hi David
Thanks for asking. I really need some assymetric throttle/mix levers for the dual control set up, the lamp that mounts to the inst panel combing, correct floor mount for the flare pistol on the front floorboard. Minor bits n bobs really. I have some NOS AOP-9 bits for sale over in the UK if anyone is interested (some cowls and seat cushons…maybe more) Oh and a spare set of AOP6 wings! All in UK as I don’t need to freight parts I don’t need back to NZ.
Sorry to divert….. but you can email me on abgalbraith@clear.net.nz
OK back to tyres!

Hi guys, this is interesting.
I have original Dunlop 6.00 x 6.5 tryes on my Auster T7 rebuild. She never saw civvie use and these were original RAF stock. However when I picked up some new 6.00 x 6.5 they are noticeably skinnier??? I don’t really want to have to use them as the original RAF ones look beefier and ‘correct’ where as these new civvie ones look a little anorexic…why would that be?
I guess I could use these ones, but after all the effort I am going to for a stock rebuild, it would be nice to have the right ones.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
