Thanks again, much appreciated

Hi Peter, no I haven’t who/where are they?
Sorry for my ignorance….

Hi David, yes indeed correct. However I always thought the rotating seat was the same in both the 6 & 7, but it turns out they are not (exceptions would probably be Mk6 conversions) and a factory built ‘T7’ like mine had a fixed one apparently (but not the same as Mk5’s??).
I am just now trying to get down to the bottom of this to keep her as accurate as possible

Thanks again, appreciate the offer, and keep up with all the amazing work you guys are doing there! I am heading off to bed soon, but will PM you tomorrow with my email address
Any leads are most helpful as this model Auster is pretty rare in these neck of the woods, aside from the T7/C4 hanging from the roof not far from me at the RNZAF Museum

Hi David
I am a member of the IAC and Ian has been a wonderful help indeed for me, he is a great guy. Dave Baker has offered some help tonight but I saw this Auster listed and thought it might be worth asking as to their progress and if I can help in any way.
Regards the seat, that is what I am trying to find out. However Dave seems to think they were different (of course!)
Boy, these aeroplanes really have some stories behind them, Sir Adrian Swire contacted me as WE552 was one of his favourite Austers he flew in Hong Hong. He was pleased to hear she survives and being rebuilt to stock military configuration. I was totally amazed when he sent me his original pilots notes with hand written notes added and some negs of him with her. Really nice bloke to chat to on the phone as well.

Thanks for the link TwinOtter, I don’t think there is much similarity between the 7 & 9 if any. But if there is and I have it spare then am only too happy to help. I have a spare observers ‘rotating’ seat as fitted to a Mk6, but to keep my rebuild authentic I have to fit a fixed type as also fitted to the Canadian Austers (actually hence trying to contact them regarding the rear observers fwd facing rear seat) and rear fuse fitout pics in original configuration
Thanks again

Thanks guys
Interesting indeed, much appreciated.
In the meantime, here is a pic of AOP-9 HKG 6 taken from Roys website I thought you might like. Some great pics also of her 2 months later with her top screen blown out due to spinning!

This is only one of a series of nice air to airs of this plane.

Hi guys
Just revisiting my earlier thread, at this stage I have had no real joy finding where most of these airframes have ended up as of today. Many went to the US but I know no more.
Oh, you have to check out this excellent website http://www.rhkaaf.com on the RHKAAF, tons of interesting photos and ORB’s etc….hours of reading!
Roy and his son have to be congratulated on their efforts with the help of the RHKAAF Historical society for going through their archives. Turned up some great pics of my Auster…even a cockpit shot from the 50’s of my actual plane!
Anyway, any help would be appreciated and I am sure Roy would be grateful for any info on survivors.
Cheers

.
Aaah, gotta love the Auster! Great photo:).
Hope our Aussie counterparts are surviving the fires and heatwaves.
If any Austers are endangered by the fires or heat over there, just pop them on a boat and send them over the ditch here to NZ and we will look after them!!
Thanks for the pic

Thank you guys for such a great thread. Its good for us guys over this side of the planet (New Zealand) to see all the great activity.
Whilst my Auster T7 rebuild keeps me poor, I hope to one day make it over to see all these planes ‘in the flesh’ one day!
Thanks again everyone
Anthony
Great project you have there!
Have you joined the Austerclub forum? Well worth signing up as there is a wealth of knowledge available there.
I have some spares I may be able to help you with , PM me if you are interested. Are you sure you want to put a Cirrus Minor back in her?? If you do then I have a nose bowl.
But I would seriously look at putting a Gipsy in her….just a thought.
Keep us posted on your work
Cheers

Thanks John!
That is all excellent info and has filled a few gaps for me. Especially the AOP-9’s
I wonder what happened to parts of these airframes that were w/o? I heard a story that an American brought up everything left over in the 70/80’s and took it back to the States??
Thanks again, all good information!
