Hello everyone, Are there any photos of the Skyraiders at Bien Hoa in Vietnam. They are visible on google Earth and appear to be about 12 of them.I seem to remember something in Flypast a few moons ago.Any news on recovery?…..regards….jase
Thank you Cees.
‘Chickenhawk’ please.
What about a wing to body fairing – the join between wing and fuesalage ? Access holes for wing pins ? Black would make it German or nightfighter ?
I don’t consider it ‘ shutting the door ‘. I have just learned something from someone who knows better. Shame a lot of people see it as a put down.
Can.t argue with that !
Is it “ejector ” or “ejection” ? Not one to be pedantic but the best way to wind up the bomb heads on 39 sqn was to call them `ejector` seats. Big cheer for the plumbers !!!!
Its off to bentwaters apparently . Everett aviation took it pieces and its full of corrosion . Still at least its not been scrapped.
The Canberra pr9. The world has been a duller place without it.
Was the + position something to do with the oil draining from the gearbox?
They never went all the way around the tank just over the ends and pressure was applied towards the center. There was normally a rubber strip glued to the inner ring to prevent damage to the tank. We also used the half round bars but as i said Laarbruch was an F4 base so maybe left overs?
What are these?
As already stated these are for removing drop tanks from aircraft-‘ Hernia bars’ for obvious reasons. I worked in the Tornado Tank bay but think the ones we had came from a Phantom as they did’nt fit too well. NOT to be attempted with fuel in the tank either!
Laarbruch “J”
I did the see in on the F4s at Laarbruch as part of VASS. As well as the J models there was also a FGR2 and a Lightning (Mig) on XVs HAS site. On II(AC)’s they had a Bucc,Harrier GR3 and a Wessex. 20 had a Lightning and 16 still had a Canberra. Seem to remember that the J pilots had ragged the jets on the way over and loads of rivets had popped on some of the wing panels!
Thanks all for the info. Some friends of mine lived in the quarters at Colt and said that they still had the camo paint on the outside of the house. The barber at Coningsby works from one of the old houses and there is no way in the world one of your DFS sofas (other brands are available) would fit into it.!
G-HUEY..
I remember being in the Power Plant bay at Odiham in 87. One of the riggers was crew chief and some of the bits were cleaned up in the bay. Think some of the rotor blade that was totalled in the bridge strike was mounted on wood and sold to raise funds. There was also a scrap bin full of astazou reportedly from an argentine Pucara, and a “Amada”(Navy?) Panel cut from a jet by one of the lads after the confict.Wonder if its still there?……………..
