Mark I see a friend request but the mobile app does not let me access it I will do so when at the laptop.

Museum is open to visits by appointment at Wethersfield.museum@outlook.com

There are usaf visitors Sept 5, 25 and early October.

We are in the process of becoming a Heritage Trust in order to preserve the history.

As for buildings and the current museum we hope to make it to 2022/3 before having to find a new home if not able to stay in the current building.

By coincidence we also have parts of 3686 which was a fatal crash 9 years previous, that crash has been well researched for us by the lender and has a full bio of the pilot with photos.

There is also the well documented fatal crash of Col Wendell Kelly’s F100F at Gosfield.

I would call them 381st B17 experts, they have all the diaries and records in the museum, and have contact with many of the surviving men that served there during WW2 which provide eye witness accounts to the documented facts.

Similiar to me with all the 416th records and direct contact with the 14 surviving men for the A20s at Wethersfield.

ask at 381st Facebook page, Ridgewell there was a well documented incident, where they took the COs A20 Runabout up to lower a toolkit to free the ball turret before landing, it took two attempts as the first rope broke. and took along time from what i remember hearing. but if you ask on their they will give you the full story and any others at Ridgewell.

Wethersfield Museum exists purely on the good will of the current Management at MDP HQ, and is primarily there for good community relations and an act of friendship to the Americans that served here.

I have asked the question, would they allow the Gate Guard to be replaced, and if so can i have permission to carry out a feasibility study. keeping it under cover as an exhibit might also not be out with the bounds of possibility. The first decision lies with those responsible for the site, and I will understand if they said no.

Thanks Stuart 🙂 what date would the Tacan sign beside the red horse be from?

I checked today the Arresters are also still at the East end of the runway.

There was also a blue light and power box with sign on it I didn’t understand it says;

wing strobe and heater control 2×240 V supply.

I can’t upload any photos, and my profiles says i have none loaded?

Thanks Wyvernfan, next time hopefully you will get in the hangars, another forum member was there a bit earlier so may post some of those photos.

Im still a one man band trying to build a team, hopefully get keys to new building by May, and it will all develop from there. I do visits by appointment only. It was primarily set up to manage the amount of American visitors we have.

999 with Col Toliver at Wethersfield, the Super Sabres had damaged windows at Spain’s Hall and frightened cattle, a search in Hansard will see it was discussed in parliament. As part of a community Liasion all the local farmers were invited to the base. I have the names of them all with the photo, one or two are still alive, and thier families still farm the same land. Spain’s Hall !!! The Lord Lt summoned the Col sent his Rolls Royce to pick him up and when he returned the take off westward was changed.

The Col Kelly crash F100f was 56-3991, in the photo I have with Col Toliver and all the local farmers is 999 but someone pointed out it was a single seater, though rumour is and I intend to get this confirmed that some of the farmers were given a flight in an F100F.

999 would be a great number to put on a Gate Guard a The MOD Police HQ.
( I haven’t run this past the powers that be yet, there that part of me that doubts I can make it happen, fighting the part that’s says nothing ventured nothing gained)

I have over 700 ex USAF communicating with me through Facebook, websites and just email, I receive memorabilia packages every week. This is Tom Barr 20th FTW Field Maintenance Mechanic in 1958 the year after I was born, he’s 79 now and coming back in September for a visit. Why? because in his words Wethersfield was his University, he was studying how to live. Wouldn’t it be great if he could sit once again in the cockpit of an F100F 57 years later.

Thanks FOUGA23 that seems to be the advice coming from most people, plus I might have a better chance at transporting that than a whole Aircraft.
