I hope that the Veterans who saw the lanc had a great day. They deserve it for their efforts and the horrors they have endured on our behalf. However if the BBMF is under too much demand with obviously just the one Lancaster to go round. If there is a clash of requirements someone makes a decision which venues to support. And that can lead to disappointments. Perhaps the Spit/Hurri flight should not be advertised as the BBMF, rather it should be “the Spitfire and Hurricane from the BBMF, the Dakota from the BBMF” or some such description that would be more representative. For the majority BBMF is synonymnous with the S H L trio. I Didn’t appear to be on the forum at the right time to catch the news that the Lanc wasn’t going to be there and am more a general public airshow visitor like many others so wouldn’t expect or know to to go digging for this kind of info having seen an itinery on the web site.
If that is your standpoint FMS then your comment regarding a customer – seller relationship is wholly flawed. A check on the BBMF website reveals that the Lancaster was not due to display there. Therefore a little research by the ‘customer’ would have allowed you to make an informed choice as to whether you’re disappointment at not seeing the Lancaster outweighed your potential enjoyment of seeing all the other aircraft displaying there. Did Cosford and the RAF deliberately mislead you by telling you that the Lancaster would be there? Only to withdraw it at the last moment? Be interesting to knw for sure but I suspect it was never a part of the agenda.

I suppose you could argue that they didn’t say that the Lanc WOULD be there as part of the BBMF flight but there again they didn’t mention the Spit Hurri or Dakota either
I think that the average customer could reaonably have expected to see the standard Spit, Hurri, Lanc trio based on this description. The cosford air show is a general attraction not just for enthusiasts who might go searching for all this info. Do we all have to check every participants own web sites to see what they are sending = are all the Reds going to show or all the Falcons, Blue Eagles etc. ? !
2007 Flying Displays
This year’s programme is now taking shape although, of course we can never guarantee any specific aircraft will appear. Flying will start with the popular large models at approximately 1100 hrs and end, after a continuous display, around 1730 hrs.
The majority of our ‘old friends’ from the RAF Inventory will be present again this year including:
Hawk
Chinook
Sea King
Tucano
Hercules C130
Tutor
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
Typhoon
The Falcons Parachute Display Team
The Red Arrows
But the centerpiece of the RAF display will be the new “Operational Scenario” which includes many aircraft types and is designed to demonstrate, better than ever before, the role and operational capabilities of the Royal Air Force.
Our Navy and Army colleagues will also be contributing with:
The Black Cats
The Blue Eagles
Civilian Aircraft will probably include:
Huey
Yak
Goodyear Extra 300
P51
Hurricane
ME 109
Jungmann
Canberra
Team Guinot
The Blades
Whilst I appreciate the efforts of all contributors to airshows for historic and present day planes remember that no-one is “doing us a favour” here for which we should be “grateful”. We are all paying money for these air shows and in some cases paying for a whole family to attend. There is a customer – seller relationship here not some kind of best friends fly-in club, try and get here if you can.
You were lucky we turned up……We were on the ground for about two and ahalf hours hardly a brief visit…… The Lanc was elsewhere yesterday
Indeed I do count myself lucky to see the planes but it is a perfectly valid expectation to see an adequate flying display from the BBMF. Last year I saw the BBMF twice and both dispays were great. I felt let down at Cosford despite the conditions.
As for the Lanc being elsewhere this was an RAF show and should have had top priority.
No problems for us.
No queuing to get in and it’s basically best to walk around again after the show and/or have a picnic and let everyone else queue.
What we noticed this year is that the early departers didn’t seem to be moving down the aisles much compared to last year. Perhaps there were just more of tem. Some people left very early.
Also, despite thae fact that Cosford is such good value for money for an airshow, it was a shame about some of the display issues, Canberra and Hurricane no-shows and the half a display from the Red’s, No Lanc and a very brief BBMF showing to name just a few…
and of course we will lose the airshow, a double blow for the west mid to south area as cosford airshow is also likely to go wif as rumoured the base becomes non-RAF
Did anyone get a shot showing the lanc, spits and hurricanes in formation?
If so could you post please?
When IS that FW190 going to fly ?
What future for the Cos air show after 2010/11 ?
Very impressive, although some of the buildings “finish” is a bit shoddy.
and the roof was leaking in one corner of the building
Is this the open access cockpit ? I was told by one of the staff that the cockpit which you were allowed access to will not be put back out as there had been two accidents.
It’s just nice to have some specifics to look forward to. Last year for me it was the Buchon. This year ?
To the most beautiful moment in life, better than a deed, better than a memory, the moment… of anticipation! (OK, so it’s a quote from the Simpsons, but it makes the point)
Nice pic’s, and nice to see Duxford trying something different and putting a spitfire in a crash scene like the 109.
Maybe they could set up a german uniformed mannequin to stand guard over it ? 🙂
Which other sites are on the “possible maybe” list for Classic Flight relocation.
Hope you aren’t going too far
I just hope that they position that Anson where I can get a good shot of her
