The last film I saw was ‘Avengers Assemble’ and it was really good fun, decent story, good character interaction and great pacing. 8/10
Before that it was ‘The Hunger Games’ which was slow, dull, boring, silly, puerile, annoying, slow and did I mention SLOW? 2/10.
I would have thought that heathrow to leeds-bradford would have cost too much in terms of landing fees and other administration costs. BA (well, cityflyer) moved all the Heathrow-Jersey flights to Gatwick for that reason a few years ago.
It seems that this was a precautionary ditching after a warning of MRGB (main Rotor GearBox) OIL PRESSURE LOW. It seems the pilots decided to ditch after a similar issues with another puma caused a crash. The helicopter stayed afloat -> http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-18020646
the Captain wasn’t just a pilot. He was chosen to become a cosmonaunt and trained to fly Buran. He was at the top end of the range of test pilots.
However, it’s still possible even someone this elite may have succumbed to simple grandstanding or he might not have been at the controls. There were pilots from a couple of Indonesian airlines on board.
Wow, ok then. If the ELT didn’t transmit, chances are that the CVR and FDR may be destroyed or un readable.
ELT and FDR’s are two different devices. the ELT might have been OFF.
Remember the polish presidential Tu 154 that crashed in russia ?? PRESSURE !!!!
There was no pressure though. it was assumed by the pilots that there were under pressure. No one told them ‘you HAVE to do this’ or ‘you HAVE to do that’.
Yes, lots of parallels with mount erebus. Of course, with the prestige of the people they were flying there might have been some pressure, either directly or indirectly, to show off what the plane could do. It’s why I think the CVR will provide most of the clues as to what caused this.
his fight with cancer was mentioned during a recent episode of ice pilots when he came back for a visit and he looked terrible due to weight loss.
Before I watched ice pilots I’d never heard of Arnie Schreder but after watching a few episodes he came across as very genuine, down to earth and one hell of a pilot. A terrible loss. 🙁
I hope not but a full investigation could easily take a year or more. Hopefully the CVR will be recovered quickly and that will give most of the story. It does sound like pilot error from what people have said here and on other sites.
Reminds of the still negative image of the DC-10, wonderful aircraft tainted by a few accidents.
I wonder if Boeing or Airbus will now step forward with a better offer for the Indonesians?
The first one has just started production and they’ll be delivered next year. I’m looking forward to seeing the first A380 in BA colours.
Do you mean GVA (Geneva) rather than GNV?
Shame to hear that BA is not keeping up the aircraft interior.
Great photos’…..There is only one airliner that beats the 787 for looks & originality & thats the VC 10 !!
Vulcan 😀
I prefer the 787 to the A380. The 787 at least has some style. Paint the A380 red and it’ll look a lot more like a double-decker airplane. :p
What a total waste of an airframe. 😮
Do you really think so? I’d say with those engines and swept back wing she has an elegance never before seen.
she is a beauty – thank you for those.
Is this one of the 787’s that has the funky mood lighting?
