With Derek Guyler (Now immortalised as a ‘voice’ in Churchill ads)

thank you for that, I’ve been trying to place Churchills voice for a while. Now it makes sense.

Very sad news about Eric Sykes. I grew up with his comedy and other greats like Ronnie Barker, Tommy Cooper and Dick Emery.

Terrible news – condolences to all involved 🙁

Looking at the video it looks to me like he flew through the wake turbulence of the preceding aircraft which lead to fly control problems and the crash.

Among the missing men are the Chief of Serov city police, three police inspectors, the guard of the airport, a private company guard, a pensionist, a young unemployed guy and a local mobile shop owner.

The questions that come from that alone are staggering – were the chief of police and the police inspectors drunk as well? Were they kidnapped? If so, how the hell did two drunks kidnap 4 police officers and a private guard?!

    Only in Russia I guess.

Years ago journalists had integrity. I guess leveson has proven it doesn’t exist any more.

Funny story. It just goes to show that journalistic integrity is absolute rubbish when it comes to the daily fail.

Saying that, I gave up sending in corrections to the BBC over it’s shuttle coverage. I think the problem has a lot to do with the speed of news delivery, it has to get out there ASAP and facts checking can wait until later…. which quite often is never.

Wouldn’t folding wings also add an extra maintenance expense/risk? after all, we are talking additional moving parts, fuel tanks in those parts (unless they are removed then you are back to a range issue).

I believe that there are a couple of gates at LHR which the A380 can’t use because they are too tight for it to turn around there.

What a couple of idiots. At least they had the sense not to argue with armed officers.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an A380’SP’ type of aircraft – high density but built for short routes. Reduce the amount of aircraft on those routes and you have more slots for the international routes.

Would an A380 reduce costs though? I don’t know the details but I suspect that the 380 only beats out the 777 on longer routes due to better fuel burn ratios and on those flights where you don’t have enough people to fill a 777 you’ll be dealing with a larger loss maker for the A380.

Thats part of the problem isn’t it?

The cost to operate any airliner goes up as the passenger numbers and cargo goes down. Add an A380 into it and you’ve got landing fees, airport servicing fees and all sorts of things – a real loss maker for the airline.

I am sure an airline would rather be overbooked by one or two passengers per flight than being underbooked by 10s of passengers
