I have another great idea, lets burn the entire US Navy budget for a decade on one single, entirely useless, Boomer:

The navy would have more than enough money in their budget if we kick all the deadbeats and malcontents off the dole and make them work for a living.

Wrong! All the signatories agreed at the time that the successor states to the USSR were bound by the treaties, & the successor states all agreed that they were. The treaties continued in force, with appropriate amendments to take account of the split.

This is pretty normal. When countries split, they don’t wipe out their debts, for example. The successor states get assigned shares of them.

Dude, seriously, who cares about treaties. I mean c’mon, it’s not like we’ve never broken a treaty before. Just ask the Indians(feathers not dots). Besides, everybody else is building new stuff, the Russkies the Chinese, everybody. We still got the same old stuff from the 70’s and 80’s! There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be building BIGGER, and more BADA$$ nukes and in greater numbers than everybody else combined. We can’t allow the rest of the world to have an advantage over us militarily.

Dude, seriously, if the reactors are that big of a deal then they can just rip ’em out and drop in some gas turbines. I mean c’mon, how hard could it be? If the Russkies can convert some weird cruiser/carrier hybrid into a somewhat normal aircraft carrier, I’ll bet we could swap out the Big E’s powerplant no problemo.

Dude, seriously, I think we outta refurbish it and sell it to one of our allies.
Maybe just charge ’em for the cost of the refurb.

The US is part of arms control treaties…

Dude, seriously, most of those treaties were signed between the United States and the Soviet Union and since the Soviet Union no longer exists those treaties are null and void.

Dude, seriously, who’s the dbag that decided we need FEWER boomers that carry fewer missiles? I mean c’mon, we should have AT LEAST 18 boomers that are even bigger and more bada$$ than the ones they’re replacing. I’m thinkin’ something double the size of the Ohio class with twice as many missiles that carry twice as many warheads.

    Gotta think BIG!

Are you volunteering to give us the money…

Dude, seriously I would NOT have a problem if some of my tax dollars went to help provide military aid to y’all. In fact, I think we outta stop giving all that aid to the Egyptians ($2 billion in foreign aid a year since 1979 & $1.3 billion in military aid since 1987) and give it to you guys instead. Unlike the Egyptians, y’all are a good ally. You deserve it much more than they do.;)

In peace time one carrier will be the operational strike carrier whilst the other is in reserve and they will rotate in role along with the bulk of crew. In a real crisis they will surge personnel from land establishments, the reserves, RAF and AAC to get the second carrier in operation as a second deck.

What about when one of ’em is in dry dock?

Dude, seriously, y’all really should consider scoring at least three CVN’s and three LHA’s. I mean c’mon, y’all were a superpower back in the day. Don’t y’all wanna be one again?

I think if y’all would step up recruiting and stopped slashing your military budget to pay for all those Socialistic welfare schemes y’all would have the cash to build a truly bada$$ navy and a triad of nukes.
Dude, seriously, you do that y’all will be a superpower again in no time.

Dude, seriously, don’t you think it would make a lot more sense to build carriers to do the job of a CVN and built some LPH’s to do the job of an LPH?
I mean c’mon, seriously, don’t you think the RN would be much better off with (at least) three or four CVN’s and (at least) two or three LPH’s?

Doubling the number of Type 45’s wouldn’t be a bad idea either.;)

65 thousand tons actually and it is that big for a reason!

In a surge situation operating the maximum air group of 36 F-35 plus assorted helicopters anything smaller can’t meet the planned hourly sortie rate.

As has been pointed out a million times now “THE COST IS NOT ON THE STEEL!” The systems in a smaller carrier would cost much the same as in the QE class so the imagined saving would not be there at the price of reduced effectiveness.

The RN, MOD, Thales and BAE Systems didn’t design the QE class on a whim! Rather then post inflammatory posts why don’t you bother to do a little research first…:(

Not sure who you’re responding to because I sure didn’t say it should be smaller. On the contrary, I said it should be (at least) 20% LARGER so y’all could have a decent sized air wing. I mean c’mon if y’all built that thing 20% larger you could have an air wing similar in size to what the Kitty Hawk had. If you went 40% larger y’all could have an awesome air wing similar to the Ford/Nimitz class.

Y’all need to start thinkin’ big. 😉

wow a 80.000 ton carrier for 24 f35’s…that’s like renting Roland Garos to go play a friendly match of tennis with your neibour. Realism and economics are missing here.

Your air wing wouldn’t be limited to only 24 fighters if you had a larger carrier.

F35 is a waste of money.

If you want a fifth-generation fighter the F-35 is the only way to go.
Otherwise, y’all would be stuck with flying old school, antiquated fourth-generation fighters from your BRAND NEW carriers.

Dude, seriously, y’all need to ditch the ski-jump and that forward bridge, convert that thing to nuclear, add EMALS or EMCAT and buy the F-35C.

    A 20% increase in size wouldn’t be a bad idea either. 😉

Can anyone tell me why the Indians are taking so long to make a decision? Seems like this competition is taking a long time. I mean c’mon, surely by now they must know all the pluses and minuses of the various designs and all the details of the contracts. Are they going to make a decision before these things are obsolete?

Do the Japs plan on exporting the Kawasaki C-X?
Seems like a good alternative to the A400M.
