Congratulations! Exactly 1 year after PV2’s maiden flight!

So, the same 1 year old question, has it got a Radar integrated or not?

When the Chinese amabassador in India says that one of the Indian states belongs to China in its entirety, you can perhaps find it in your heart to forgive the “irrational” Indians about not trusting the Chinese in defense matters.

Why would the South Koreans be invited to bid? They make good ships but most of the mission critical equipment like the Aegis sytem, the SPYs, RAM, etc are from the US.

India’s naval preference has always, since independence, been for European and Russian. Anyways, the Indians and the SoKos don’t have a very deep defense relationship, if at all. To expect them to start off the relationship with a major naval platform is ridiculously ignorant, at best.

Just a little comment, if you have quick look, between India and China’s border arguement, India holds 2 times more disputed land than China does, and do you see ordinary chinese members as sensitive as Indian counterparts?

I am not trying to get into any furthur arguments, but to many Indian members, give your self a bit more confidence, you are not worse off, India is a big country. Be cool, no point being so agitated all the time.

Finish. It takes two years more for FOC, if all goes well. Which is why I added two years more, ie 2012 for a more conservative timeline.

That would be correct, only that I would put all 11 LCAs plus test flight completion, at 2008.

No problems. The above does not include the Naval LCAs though, which would add to the orders.

The plan has been revised; the IAF wants 100 aircraft to be in IAF service by 2017. Note, that per the timeline I put up, I had 48 aircraft by 2012, now at a production rate of 14/ year, that would give me 118 by 2017. But even so, I stuck to the lower figure. For two reasons, one it has been reported as such, second, the conservative figure is a more likely one considering some last moment IAF equipment fits or the like requiring equipment changes. It also accounts for some production going towards Naval requirements, the IN is planning for upto 20-40 LCA.

    Thanks.

Yes, I forgot Naval LCA. I think there were reports about 2 NLCA at 2008.

So if we do a conservative calculation, by the end of 2008 there should be 13 additional LCAs and all flight testing should be finished to get IOC. That’s 25 months away.

BTW, what’s India’s standard number of test flights required for a new plane to reach IOC stage? I saw numbers ranging from 800, 1500 to 2000+.

any reason for L-15 FBW design by this firm.

Although I never heard of this, I think it’s possible. I’ve heard of complaints saying NAC had difficulties in FBW, but other chinese design institutes charged them arms and legs. It’s said that 611 gave them some help. They got help from other sources as well.

BTW, I noticed the anxiety and frustration shown by some indian forumers about LCA.

Dont’ worry. Let me tell you, compared to the furious and vicious cursing I have read in all these years about J10 in chinese forums, Indian member’s responses about LCA are quite mild and reasonable (Even those most critic ones on BR). Topics about J10 in the 90s were so hot and rude, sometimes it’s disgracing. Most people were very suspicious (to say the least) about J10. But at the end of the day, after year 2003 when official news hinted about the first J10 unit in FTTC, things started to calm down.

I believe LCA will go through the same process. At the end of the day, internet is just for fans to share information. It’s DRDO or CAC’s responsibility to do the works. For them, to finish the job is the only important thing to do. So, be patient.

    More likely

    end of 2008: Pv-3, 4, 5 + 8 LSP

    2009-2011: Naval 1&2 + 20LCA with GE engines

2012-2017: 2 squadrons of LCA + Naval LCA, So ~50 LCA with (Kaveri?)

2017- I hope induction of IRST, indigenous AESA and perhaps AESA

    Thanks.

And PV5 is a twin seater, is that right?

When you read the name “Prasun Sengupta”, please switch your brain off. He is the Indian equivalent of Strategypage.

IOC is planned for 2008. FOC for 2010. By the end of IOC, the IAF will exercise, the next batch of 20. So by 2012- 48 aircraft minimum. (8 LSP Production standard + 20 + 20) If you note, this actually includes a couple of years “extra”, in the sense that if IOC is 2010, there are still 2 years for a second batch of 20 to be ready by 2012.

By 2017, 100 LCAs should be in IAF service. Along with all 140 MKIs whose production run would have ended by 2014.

Current requirements for the LCA are a minimum 120, plus more for the Navy. As earlier upgraded Bisons retire, more LCAs will be procured.

The fifth generation/MCA will come in for the Jaguar and MiG-27 upgrade phaseout.

Despite the delays, things are somewhat falling into place.

I am a bit confused about your plan for LCA.
“IOC planned for 2008”, Planned to start or Planned to finish?

Anyway, is my following understanding correct:

    Now – End of 2007: PV3, 4, 5 plus 8 LSPs = 11 LCAs to finish all flight testings
2008-2010: First batch of 20 LCAs
2010-2012: Second batch of 20 LCAs.

Thanks. Some chinese forumers are asking about latest progress on LCA, so I just want to get the latest timelines correct.

ok i try limit it to more aviation for you 🙂
so do PLAN need Tu-22M3 to project ability to defend Nansha?

No, I don’t think so. It was not designed for that purpose and still not suitable for that purpose.

Su-27/30 Family: ‘Flanker’ In The 21st Century” by Thomas Andrews, INTERNATIONAL AIR POWER REVIEW, Spring 2003, is a far more reputable source than most junk one finds on bbs

Thanks, that’s what I am looking for. Because for all these years I keep on hearing Indian memebers talking about BARS being Indianised and not availabe to China, now actually you know since 2003 Russians wanted to sell it to China. I am not kidding here. I really did not know this before.

Also, Nick, I don’t mind you commenting on China’s subjects. In fact I like that. But I think you started personal comments on Crobato first which suddenly derailed the discussion, and yes I followed suit.

Nick, I think you should spend more time sorting out LCA’s induction plan with IAF’s chief commander, obviously he’s not following your order. You can worry about PLAAF later.

maybe you do not realize, but military and wars come from politics. Country like China buy weapon because of politics stuff like Nansha island dispute with Vietnam and Phillipine.

And yes Vietnam is serious threat because they control most of Nansha and have history of fighting China all the time, killing Chinese people and stealing land.

man, I know this world is complicated and all the things are interlinked. But that’s why we want to make things simpler: if we discuss china’s aviation, then let’s concentrate on mainly on this topic.

they do not sell Tu-22 or Tu-160 yet and they treat Chinese worker in their country bad.. even when the worker is working in land that belong to China! Russia still do not give back Siberia. We only team with them because of USA

And WT%%^& that has to do this thread? I know it’s hard to seperate politics from military, but at least we should try.

Anyways, I dont need to convince you because you wont be. You are a hardcore supporter of China and you will start flaming since you perceive this to be an insult- be assured it isnt, I am just calling it as I see it, based on my own talks with several russian arms design people – from phazotron, NIIP, klimov, salyut and a few others.

Sorry to get in between, but Russia has been trying to sell Su30MKK3, Su27SMK, now Su35 for the last 5-6 years and still got no contract, is that an insult to China? The almost done deal Su30MKK3 is still hanging in the air after so many years, is that an insult to China?

I think this Iribis is an other example of Russian style insult to India:

With India’s years help on perfecting Kilo, Russia sold the matured Kilo to China.

With India’s years of help on Su30MKI and Bars, Russian is trying to sell Su35 + Iribis to China.

There were several comments on China asking/ interested in the Bars and even you were reporting them on this very forum. The International Air Power article by Andrew Johnson on the Su-30 MKI/MKK also mentions the possibility of Bars going to the MKK.

    But it never happened.
    ….

Can you provide some links for this please. I never heard of Bars being offered to China or China interested in Bars before.

All I have been hearing is that Bars is only for India

he said these on chinese aviation industry 55 years report. anyways time will tell. just wait a few years to see whether there are pics come from 132.

Unforetunetely, Yang Wei did not say that . If you search april’s posts on several major chinese forums, e.g. war sky, cjdby, yous should see how this was a bad joke.

J10’s variant is quite likely to come out in the next 5 years, but Yang Wei never said that publicly.
