Look at it this way, what type of engine is being used for all those JF17s that pakistani pilots are flying?

since the Ru are apparently commited to sell & service of RD93 for JF17 I dont see why they would embargo the AL31FN. in any case PRC itself has ordered more than 300 AL31FN so we wont be seeing the WS10x on J-10 anytime soon it looks like.

Life is full of ironies, 15 yrs after the Ussr and Pak were at loggerheads in afghanistan we shall have PAF equipped with two types of Ru engines, Mi17 helos and soon perhaps chinese ‘clones’ of russian double digit SAMs , SD-10 also got it start with Ru agat seeker 🙂

It’s all about national interests and politics. If your main customer is pursuing your main competitor enthusiastically, you have to do something.

The second one should be one of the 3 early prototypes. I believe 05 and 06 are still being assembled

The manufacturer of J10 had been trying to explore the export market quite a while ago, and Pakistan has been one of the main customers they were targetting. But in recent years, because of PLAAF’s negative reactions to their export efforts, they are not as active as before. That’s why to many chinese, even those ones close to CAC, found this news a bit surprising. It’s too early to them.

My view is that, CAC will remain low key on the issue, since Pakistan actually can push J10 through much easier. Pakistan has far more leverage to PLAAF than CAC has. CAC got to be nice to PLAAF.

So, I guess J10 will come much later than F16, there are going to be many negotiations at all levels, technical, political and financial.

Yes, given china’s situation in the whole 80-90s, it’s impossible for china to copy Harrier and the engine.

China reduced mil spending dramatically in 80s and the early 90s. Some organizations were closed, human resources lost as well. Absolutely impossible for them to do any real reverse engineering works on Harrier.

China did buy at least one Harrier for R&D purpose. It still sits in one of China ‘s avaiation university.

What are you guys ranting about? That is just a set of general aims that the PLAN is aiming to achieve in the three phases, what is wrong with that?

    PS, Nimrod, whats 1910 + 40? Not 2060 I asure you.

Sorry, this article is from an Indian site.

Above posters are not questioning China, they are question this Indian article specifically.

Except that the M-346 and Yak-130 don’t carry the PL-8/Python-3…

Don’t bother. He only cares about social programs.

IMHO, rags like the AFM (WHOSE PARENT COMPANY OWNS AND OPERATES THIS FORUM) should stick to showing photos from exercises & air shows and not in fanciful speculations as to purchases and “revolutionary effects.”

Above photoes are all from airshows or official media

Third World Air Forces do not need mediocre second-line fighter aircraft, they need social programs and political stability, which are two things that cannot be offered by an FC-1 or any military combat aircraft. The money is better spent of transport helos (ex UH-60, NH-90, Mi-17) and light cargo planes (ex: C-235/295, Y-12, Cessna Caravan).

You should include USA as well, F22 does not help on social programs and plitical stability either.

    Good. You passed the test.

I should’ve waited a bit longer before posting it. Otherwise a complete story may become “true”.

in my mind, 8 were ordered.
tai an kou carried the numbers 4 and 5 of the deal.
the 6 and 7 were received by chinese in arkhangelsk at the end of december, the last one will be delivered the spring.
but i dont know where are the 6 and 7.
russian press said at the end of january that the ship has arrived, but they don’t told his name.
is he still there, is he underway, is he arrived????

No idea, there are conflicting reports about the last one, some said it’s delivered, others said no. And China never confirms or denies on these news items, so I guess only Russia could answer this question.

I don’t remember the exact details, but at least 7 Kilos (if not all 8) had been delivered to china already. If you browse through the chinese navy thread, you should see some pictures.

The ship that carried the 2 subs is called TaiAn Kou, a semi sub-merge ship, if my memory serves me right. It’s pretty big, I saw one picture and wondered it should be able to tightly carry 4 kilos on its back.

You can take two seemingly identical sisterships, and one will be well maintained with good engines and systems, a well trained crew, a good tactical doctrine etc. and one will be a rust bucket with engines that are unreliable, a poorly trained crew etc., clearly a massive imbalance despite looking the same on paper. Although not sister ships, a good example would be a battle between the Nigerian Navy Meko and a Anzac Meko, if both were the same variant Meko with similar equipment, which do you think would win? The Nigerian boat struggles to leave harbour without breaking down, is obviously in poor condition, Nigerian training is poor etc., the Anzac would destroy it with it’s high quality crew and high maintenance and operational efficiency. Same with brochure figures, what is the operational condition of the engines? What updates have the c&c facilities had? What software revision? What is the status of the weapons? Half of these weapons struggle to work at anything like brochure efficiency (look at the operational deployments of any major military force and you soon see stories of weapons systems not performing), the list goes on.

Yes, you are right, this list can grow very long, many other factors should be taken into consideration. But can you please go into details on each area. Like some posts above, at least they started on gathering basic info, e.g. how many aircrafts can those carriers support.

Maybe, you can start comparing the engines, which one is better?
