The Sally B photo just looks upside-down to me, not the plane. Is that really the right way up?

Great link TJ. That’s a fantastic collection of photos. It’d be great if Leonard Moseley’s book could be re-released with such a collection putting names to faces, as both the photos and the book are such a relaxed behind the scenes view.

So, there was a female Buchon pilot? Who was she? Was she Spanish Air Force? Or just a poser?

Here are some of the responses:

Yes, the play is The Brylcreem Boys, which was broadcast in the BBC2 “Playhouse” strand, and starred David Threlfall. I think Martin kemp had a tiny part in it too. Transmission was November 1979.

Actually scrub that about the tails. I was getting confused with the Fairey Gordons the RNZAF operated, which had a variety of bigger and smaller tails, not the Baffin. Sorry.

I believe there were differences in the tail too. I am not certain and must look into the exact differences. I do know some of the Baffins the RNZAF had were ex-Ripons, and some of our fleet had large tails, some small.

Just a note – Dreamworks was sold a few weeks ago and is no longer an independent studio. It now belongs to one of the big moguls, I cannot recall if it’s Paramount or Universal. Apparently, despite it’s amazing record, it was still not profitable enough to remain independent.

Personally I’d use Weta Workshops any day over Hollywood.

Although in Dreamworks’ favour, look at their work in Band of Brothers. No-one complains about all the CGI in that, because you simply cannot notice it apart from the C-47 jump into Normandy. But there was loads of it used and it looks so real. It can be done very well.

At that same show, 2002, Spitfire TB863 was rolled out in Johnny Checketts’ colours too, as J-MC, after a ‘quick change’. It’s a common thing here now. The Catalina has posed as a Russian and a French Cat in the past at shows, and the Warbirds Mustang dressed as an RAF one last year, while the AFC P-51D has dressed up too.

To confuse the issue a little, this was not the only Nazi Harvard though, there was another one in yellow too with the number 7 on it. It’s seen in the book too on the runway next to ‘9’ (1099)

I would wager it is one and the same aircraft actually. I just looked up the 2002 official book from the airshow and a good side-on photo shows temporary yellow paint over the 0 and 9. Very well done, but it is a repaint.

They are notorious for doing repaints overnight at the Wanaka shows. It has happened to the Spitfire and the Mustang, and others.

Not certain but I think that’s NZ1099, which was owned then by Charles Darby and Jim Pavitt I believe. It was registered ZK-ENK. The aircraft was restored beautifully at Ardmore. A member of my forum,Bruce, worked on it so he could confirm. Feel free to drop a line there at http://rnzaf.proboards43.com/

NZ099 is now living across the ditch.

Looks too bright to be the IWM one. Unless you snuck in at night?

Lancasters in darkness. Other than Hendon and AWM, I can only think of the one at Motat which is reasonably dark, or maybe the French one in its restoration hangar.

Unless it’s outside darkness, then it could be the BBMF one if not Just Jane.

Not too many more to choose from, sadly.
